  1. Okay - here I am, just back from our cruise!

We did use them for our shuttle from the Royal Caribbean dock in Falmouth. Inside the compound, you need to walk to the far end of the buildings and someone from the company will be there to meet you (just ask - they are no longer permitted to hold up a sign). Our driver was very friendly, pointing out a couple of spots along the drive (not too too talkative though...) He stopped at Dr. Cave beach and walked us in to make sure they knew we had paid. I will admit that it looked a little different than I expected, kind of walking in a store front along a narrow street. The chair guy came and asked where - we asked him to walk with us a little farther down the beach to get away from the main crowd. I think they were $6 each, but I may be getting the different ports mixed up. They weren't the most comfortable chairs but we spent most of the time in the water or walking up and down the beach. There was a bit of approaching to buy things, even weed, but they didn't bother you once you said no thanks. We walked to Margaritaville (which was busy) for late lunch then back to meet the van and returned to Falmouth. One thing to note was the time difference - they offered 2 return trips, one at 2:00 and one at 4:00. This is Jamaica time, which would be ship time 3:00 or 5:00. This made our decision to take the 2:00 return time since it was almost 30 minute drive.

I would not hesitate to use them! Good luck with your planning.

  2. Hi Laura,

Sorry I've took a while to get back to you. I've talked to the family and we're just concerned that we can't swop and change our mind on our tour if we commit to sharing it. Courtney said we could swop and change on the day and we'd like to keep this flexibility and for this reason alone we'd like to stick to just the family, I hope understand. Maria :)

    Maria,

no problem at all - totally understand.

Will look forward to meeting you on board!!

  3. Hi

    We're doing

    Dunns river

    Scotches

    Sight seeing on the coast

    Margaritaville

    Beach in ochos rios

    Shopping

Other options we can decide on the day were

    River Tubing

    Zip line

    Horse back riding

Would have liked to have gone to montego bay (don't know why, just always fancied it from being a kid) but Courtney advised it would be too far.

There are five of us,how many are in your party? Oh and yes we're on FOS. Where did you want to go?

    Maria

Maria - I have communicated with Courtney several times and at this point it looks like we aren't going to be able to do exactly what we want for only 2 people. Would you be open to including the 2 of us if I contact him and see what else we could do at DRF other than climbing them? I will understand if you just want it to be your family.

  4. Are you using Courtney as well?? We are on the same cruise, Carnival Magic. I just e-mail them about putting something together. It is just me and my husband. Didnt know what you were interested in or if you wanted to combo

Tracer140 - what day will you be in Jamaica? We are scheduled for September 5th on Royal Caribbean. I didn't see your ship on the list for ships in port that day - your itinerary might be different than ours.

All that sounds really good, except that we aren't interested in doing Dunns Falls. We liked the River Tubing option better.

  6. We've booked a private tour for sept 5th and so far Courtney has been excellent, I will write a short review when we return.

We were also trying to put together our own tour on this very date... I will agree that he has been very prompt with emails. I was not able to get the amount of people required though for what we want to do. Can I ask what you are planning to do on your tour?

I'm assuming you're on the Freedom?

  7. well considering that we just returned from Italy and were able to visit a Steeler bar in Rome..... we might have to remain Steeler loyal and go with James

thanks for all the reviews and info!

  8. There are two docks in St. Thomas. Most ships dock at Havensight (see map below....sorry it's not super clear). Havensight is on the right side of the map. Others dock at Crown Bay. You'll see Crown Bay on the left side of the map. Charlotte Amalie is the town you'll see in the middle of the map. Red Hook is on the far right side of the map.

Looking forward, just to make sure there isn't any confusion, you are either docking at Havensight or Crown Bay, not Charlotte Amalie. Charlotte Amalie is one of the spots you can catch a ferry to St. John. Red Hook is the other. If you are docking at Crown Bay, the Charlotte Amalie ferry is closer but it normally is a very rough ride in open seas to get to St. John. I personally prefer the longer taxi ride to Red Hook and taking the shorter ferry ride. The 15 - 20 minute ferry ride from Red Hook is almost always smooth and even if it's not, it's less than half the time of taking the Charlotte Amalie ferry. You are arriving early enough that if you are in Crown Bay and off the ship quickly, you can beat much of the crowds to St. John. Tell me what ship you are on and I'll check to see where you are docking.

sorry, I wondered why people were referring to the other dock as Crown Bay...LOL

    We are on the RC Enchantment - October 25th - 7:00am - 5:00pm.

I will take your advice and go for the Red Hook ferry ride.

Thanks for your reply as to where we will be docking!

  9. The crossing from Red Hook to Cruz Bay is typically quite calm. The rough ride can often be from Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas to Cruz Bay, St. John. A much longer ride in open seas.

    Augie ~ in case I don't get back here....have a fabulous time!

After reading ALL these posts, I am even more excited about venturing on our own.

Just want to clarify one uncertainty..... We are docking at Charlotte Amalie from 7:00 - 5:00.

? should we take the taxi to Red Hook for the ferry instead of ferry from CA ?? It sounds like the extra taxi ride time is better than the longer ferry ride. Correct?
