You know that Guiness is healthy and good for you, yes?
That's what the advertising used to say. So of course I believe them!
Some of the less clear memories of my teenage years suggest that taken to excess the argument fades, as the vision doubles......
Matthew

And the Guiness is pretty good there, too. ;)
Now why didn't you say that earlier? All your other arguments pale into insignificance!

You go to the Pub and have lunch with your friends or potential new friends you wouldn't eat lunch with otherwise. Think fun.
Good point.
I wouldn't have wanted to eat anywhere else as I had a lovely group of tablemates. Plenty of drinking time for friends away from dinner!
But you're quite right - especially if there is a group that spans restaurants/sittings.
I did say it could be just me!

where relaxation is the principle activity.
The shame of it! I blame the jet lag, and will be more careful in future!

What about the Planetarium, Jane :D
Gav
I never made it there. Too busy doing nothing....
I can't see the point of having a fake pub lunch instead of lunch in the restaurant, but that may just be me.
The afternoon tea in the Queen's Room isn't a patch on QE2 from my experience.
The Commodore Club is wonderful. The open decks are wonderful.
Relaxation is what this ship encourages. I think it would be a waste of her to rush around ticking boxes on the "seen it" sheet - but then I think she is built for transatlantics where relaxation is the principle activity.

Sir, the War Ministry regrets to inform you that I am a civil servant. I never resign in the mornings, a period when I prefer to enjoy the smell of napalm.
Right - so you already work in a comedy environment?
That's the sad thing about the Civil Service - it isn't a comedy show. They really are serious.
Matthew

I believe in WW2 as well. There is ample evidence it was a real event. Keep the faith.
You're a genius.
I don't know what you do for a living, but resign in the morning and take up stand up.

Is everyone on this board a civil servant????
I can be quite rude if necessary.......

One of the nice things about sitting at a computer all day is that, as long as your bashing out stuff on the keyboard, it's very rare for anyone to challenge what you're actually doing. It helps to have something seriously work-related that you can "Alt+Tab" to in times of crisis. It also helps enormously to work in the public (ie, non profit making) sector. The old Soviet maxim holds good. "I pretend to work and they pretend to pay me"
Jimmy
Ha ha ha.
Let me die laughing.
One of the ways I cannot waste time at work is on this board. Even if I (as I do) have times when I have nothing to do.
It's been blocked. Together with Ebay and anything of interest. Oh, and Sport.
Thank you HMG.

ROFL,
I decided to up our game for the next cruise and, by completely blowing the family budget for the next 100 years, went for an outside (with a starboardhole). Perhaps before indulging in such extravagence I should've given a little thought to where we are actually going. There's a clue in the name of the cruise - "Land of the Midnight Sun". Ah well - time will tell.
Jimmy
I've done this cruise and had no problems with blackout. Unlike Midnatsol, which is one of the Norwegian Coastal Voyages ships!

Malcolm was concerned about this poor thread, so rather than just bump, I will bring it back on topic
If (as I am) I am going on QE2 again in 10 weeks, I'm going to have to do 'something' with that bottle currently residing in the fridge, in preparation for the new bottle(s) of the new voyage!
There is a raffle at work around Christmas but I would like to keep my job;
or auction it as a genuine bottle from the QE2 - with photos to prove it.

but which photo would bring the highest price?
Karen
You think people would pay for this muck?

Is this thread as unpopular as the drink itself? It needed to be rescued!

You forgot
Sit in a lounge chair and drool all day (in between my naps)
Watch the walker races instead of the hairy chest contest.
Now I don't care if you love Carnival, Cunard, Royal Caribbean but that is funny........Is it? Oh. I must have lost my sense of humour then.
Matthew

Is there a reason that your knocking Carnival btw, Cunard is just over priced thats all, you can get all the same things on a nice RRCL ship like the Mariner of the Seas or the Carnival Miracle which is a really nice ship ask anyone that has ever been on her, stop knocking Carnival its doesn't matter rich or poor, anyone can go on either criusline that they choose...........
Where do I start?
I don't want a "fun" ship.
I do want a ship where people expect to dress for dinner.
I don't want a ship that looks like a block of flats.
I do want an ocean liner.
I don't want to be on a ship where idiots treat the lifeboat drill as a game.
I do want to go on a ship where adult converstation is the main entertainment.
And that's just for starters.
Matthew
-
Isn't Cunard still owned by Carnival? Maybe they don't serve it on Carnival due to the fact they like their passengers!:D
Flame on!
Didn't know Cunard was a budget cruise line ... guess price doesn't always equate to quality, eh? Think I'll stick to the REAL champagne served on NCL and Carnival. (Moet)Two more converts! We can have a party!
Matthew
-
Interesting statement since CARNIVAL owns Cunard. By the way, I'm sure CARNIVAL thanks you for all the money you give to it.
A visitor from the Carnival board! How nice.

Nina,
It is fine if you do not expect it to be excellent Champagne. If you accept it as what it is (cheaper Cava rather than Champagne), you will be fine.
We always drink out cottle on the first sailaway. Just make sure it is cold.
No. It's not Cava. It's not Champagne. It is swill, pure and simple.
Matthew
-
I have seen it mentioned many times on this board as something like a sparkling grape juice mixed with mouth wash. Is it alcoholic? A champagne knock off? Thanks, just want to know what to expect!
Pol Acker is to champagne what Carnival is to cruises.

On what after she retires? The QM2 or the QV2 lol!

And ladies--QVC can be your friend.
You don't want to wear your diamond brooches and tiaras? Buy diamonique ones at a bargain price--no one will know the difference! :D
Including muggers. Fake jewels prevents loss, not attack. Depends on whether you value your diamonds or yourself more!

What on earth is it that makes Americans so paranoid?
I wouldn't even think of not wearing my wedding ring - even in New York or Los Angeles. I wear my Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso daily, and normally when out on holiday. The only reason I might not is to wear my Omega instead.
My wife always wears her wedding ring, engagement ring and diamond earings.
We've never had any trouble. Even in New York. I even survived the subway there.
Mind you, you don't have much time to worry about being mugged in the USA do you? Because they don't quickly lift your wallet but prefer to blow your head off. That's right, isn't it?
No. It isn't. But it is no more or less daft than the constant panic about pickpockets in Europe from Americans.

I did a two nighter on the Arcadia. Never again. Dreadful ship - depressing decor, and abysmal food. Total waste of money.
For those who make the (reasonable) point that a two nighter isn't the way to judge a ship, I'd point out I have done exactly the same itinerary on QE2 and it was excellent.
