The problem won't be NCL - it'll be the ports your stopping at. They're the ones in control. I know Cozumel is particularly strict and they often have dogs to sniff out food on cruise passengers.

Your best bet to actually be able to take it off shop is prepackaged manufacturer sealed food. And you probably need to bring it on board when you embark because about the only thing I remember still seeing in the manufacturer container is cereal and yogurt.

Thank you so much for the feedback.   We will probably limit the excursions timing so she can eat safely on the ship.  Better safe (and full) than sorry!

  2. HI - we're on the Western Caribbean Cruise 12/22 leaving New Orleans.  Is there anything to do when we port at Roatan or Costa Maya that is NOT already an excursion?  Right now the excursion we were hoping to book is no longer showing on the NCL website. I know this may not mean it's sold out but just in case it is...I see I can book something directly with South Shore Zipline (this would be an Eco Walk) but I wasn't sure how that "interfaces" with our party members who booked to go ziplining through NCL and others who may want to go to the site and do something else.  Has anyone booked directly with South Shore zipline and was it seamless the day of the excursion?

    http://www.southshorezipline.com/contact/index.html  Thanks everyone!

  3. Hello,

My daughter (and I) have been on 3 cruises and have our 4th coming up. She just turned 18.  How do I add in the past 3 cruises so she receives Latitudes rewards , am I able to?  And is there a way to change her listing on NCL.com from "child" to "adult"?

Hi all! Please help a Royal Caribbean cruiser choose which of these ships to try out!

We are considering Spring Break options for next March and considering both of these ships. We have sailed Royal Caribbean Oasis class ships 3 times now, and loved our experiences, but I’m not willing to pay what they want for Spring break 2020....

A little about us: family of 4, will stay in a balcony room, kids will be 4 and 6 years old. Daughter has celiac disease so gluten free dining is a must for our family. I’ve read reviews of both Carnival and NCL and both appear able to handle passengers with Celiac well.

Carnival is an Eastern itinerary (Amber Cove, St. Thomas, San Juan, Grand Turk). Breakaway is a Western itinerary (Great Stirrup Cay, Falmouth, Grand Cayman, Cozumel). We would likely hang back and do easy ship days in both San Juan and Falmouth and do beach/pool days at the other ports on both itineraries. New ports for us would be Amber Cove, Grand Turk, Great Stirrup Cay and Grand Cayman, so plenty of new experiences on both itineraries.

From what I’ve seen, the Breakaway seems larger and more upscale with greater variety and more to do, though Breeze also looks like a nice fun ship. Costs are comparable.

I’m interested to hear thoughts and opinions from any of you who have cruised both lines, given our kids’ ages, diets, etc. Which ship is best?  I’ll post in both the Carnival and NCL forum to get thoughts from both groups.

Thank you in advance for any input!

Norwegian Breakaway and Getaway were both accommodating for my daughter with Celiac.  Speak with the maitre d's and chefs and your child should be fine.

Hello, this is our first cruise on NCL and looking at the Escape to Bermuda in June. We have cruised RC before.  My 6 yr old daughter has celiac's so she is on a GF diet. I was wondering if anyone with celiacs can chime in on how accommodating they are and the process and if there's food across the whole ship not just the main dining room.  She had celiacs so cross contamination is a huge issue for her, so we can't take a chance with buffets and such.

    Thank you

Yes, Norwegian is amazing.  There are gluten free and celiac-safe options at most of the dining establishments.  Speak with a maitre d and you can also order dinner the night before.  My daughter 17 has Celiac

How does PG deal with food allergies?  I cannot find anything on this in this forum.

My child was completely accommodated, she has Celiac.  We submitted a medical form to the NCL Access desk noting her information.  She was able to eat some from the buffet and anything we weren't sure of, we asked and a chef came to speak with us.  She also ordered dinner the night before at the restaurants and her food was served along with ours.  This was on the Norwegian Breakaway 2x and the Getaway 1x

  7. Hi - I see the Norwegian Encore has Cagney's, Le Bistro, Bayamo and maybe] La Cucina.  Since this is fewer Fine Dining options than the Breakaway and Getaway, would anyone know if the individual restaurant capacities are larger on the Encore?  My family and I would be disappointed to be on this ship and not be able to get a reservation anywhere because the seating capacity is small.
