The company that can’t (or won’t) shoot straight....

I think you can transfer a future cruise booking to a TA for more ‘perks’ within, I believe, 60 days?
Does that include transferring to the big ‘members only’ box store TA’s? Does anyone have any experience doing this? Thanks.

Perhaps the reason cruises were cheaper 3-7 years ago was fall out from the 2008 economic/housing debacle you may have heard about? Where unemployment was double the current rate? There is no intrinsic value of a cruise.....a cruise is worth what people are willing to pay at that time.

I have never understood why a choice to be on a cruise ship with a toddler would be made when there are so many better choices to be had. For whose benefit is a cruise? Surely not the toddler.
What ‘better choices’, exactly?

I guess this is what individual tastes amount to. My wife and I much preferred Magenta to he Grand Pacific. Food was good in both, but I liked not having the huge cavernous feel of the GP. Every sound was magnified into dull roar, plus GP is at the back of the ship, so you feel every movement.

Good to know. The Solarium is for adults. No way these "parents" didn’t know. Glad to hear that staff was making the effort to keep the threat from fecal contamination to a minimum.

It's fine for people to say that RCCL or Norwegian are 'great for families'...but not necessarily all families. The difference between a 2 year old and 3 yr old is gigantic, at least in terms of what you can do. It may be the most important age difference aside from legal drinking age. Essentially, with a two year old, there is little possibility of a 'break'. You cannot just drop them off at Fun Factory and walk away. The cabin babysitting at night is a nice idea, but it's pricey. The mega Norwegian and RCCL ships look fun, but are geared to older kids it seems... like 8 to 16.
I would suggest booking on the line that appeals to you the most and accept that this is a 'working vacation' where you don't have to cook or do dishes.
PS My tip would be to bring your stroller! It was a huge pain dragging it through the airport, but it was a life saver.
We ran out of diapers/pullups on the last day (of course) and found that we could buy them from Splash Academy (NCL) rather than the Duty Free shop (nobody tells you this). $38 at the Duty Free shop and $24 at the SA for the same thing. $24 was still way too much, but it was a saving.

My wife’s Aunt just got back from back to back HAL cruises - Hawaii and west coast Mexico. She complianed about how old everyone was....
She’s 78.

We are booked for next Feb on the Equinox with our 3 and 4 year old, and some of the comments make me concerned. I am really hoping they will go to Fun Factory willingly, and since they can go together, that should help.
However, we were on the NCL Gem this winter and thought the Splash Academy was not great. Our oldest refused to go. RCCL seems like overkill as they can’t really use he slides and there won’t be wall climbing. So, if worse comes to worse, we’ll download a ton of Paw Patrols and let them go to town...

I was on the Gem in Feb and had the UBP which we liked, it didn’t really use as much as we thought. I priced out a cabin next Feb with and without UBP and wi5putnwas $1200 Canadian cheaper for the week. Honestly, even with the ridiculous drink prices onboard, I doubt we drink $1200 worth in 6 nights.

Reading some of the comments....the vast majority seem cogent, well-written, and fair. Unlike the swarm of NCL fan boys/girls (employees?, stockholders?) who seem to instantly show up (do you work?) to denounce everyone as a whiner.
-
why in the world was it NCLs problem to fix? They tried to locate the luggage, they couldn't simple.
Missing bags taken onboard ship by dodgy porters isn’t a security risk?
Sounds like the definition of security risk.
-
Apparently common sense and human decency are no long part of ‘customer service’....especially at NCL which really doesn’t need more customer service disasters.

Supposed to be heading out on the Gem in Feb...I used to be excited...now I am kind of approaching it with a mixture of dread and hope. Their handling of, well, pretty much everything since Irma leaves me wondering what I have gotten myself into?
-
The worst I ever saw was in Cuba....One person would get up at 6 or 7 and block off a dozen chairs in prime locations. I would take them and throw them on the ground. I had a confrontation once.....but I am 6’2” 210 pounds....so, things didn’t work out so well for them.
-
Merci...I guess that explains it...
-
Hope someone can answer this...I am going to be getting a $50/port excursion credit for 4 ports...so, can I save them up for one port ie $200 on one excursion in one port?
There is only one we're interested in..
Thanks

In the interim, due to the destruction caused by the storm we have altered the itinerary for Norwegian Gem cruise departing on February 3, 2018. Please see below for the ship's revised itinerary:

Hot off the presses...just got the itinerary for 3 Feb 10 day Gem
Antigua
St Lucia
St Kitts
St Thomas!

This company is a grade A Gong Show.

Just got off the phone with this excursion company...they are not affiliated in any way with the cruise line, but the person I spoke to said that their IT people are in constant contact with the cruise lines and have as up-to-date info as anyone. My guess is that this will be the itinerary, but it would be nice if NCL would say something official.

found website shoreexcursionsgroup.com and they have itinerary for Gem 11 nts out of NYC Jan 23 and are selling excursions! Very interesting!
Indeed....it shows the Feb 3rd 10 day as hitting Antiqua, St Lucia, St Kitts, and St Thomas...
For what it’s worth....but I doubt they’d be selling those if it wasn’t so...
-
Finally got communication for NCL! It was to sell us insurance...but at least I know they have out email...now just wait another 8 weeks for an itinerary.
-
Can you ask her where we’re going in February since it appears to be a state secret?
An unsettling situation with NCL. Your thoughts and suggestions ?

NCL. Or are you deliberately this obtuse?
