  1. So self and DW are warming to the idea of getting a week long Vibe pass on Getaway and a cabana to go with it, even though we aren't really big "pool lovers".

The first big question is - can we book it in advance, I'm reading all sort of horror stories about having to wait in line at the Concierge desk for an hour the moment you board to try and snag one of the passes. Can suite guests get the tickets via the advance concierge service ?

Also, do you think it's worth it and what type of costs would we be looking at.

    Thanks so much !!

  2. No it won't "pop up". You can contact the pre-cruise concierge at 55 days, but you won't see anything online at that time. At 45 days you will see restaurants become available to book under My NCL.

Honestly, there isn't a real need to book restaurants before the cruise.

Thanks, the only reason I'm trying to get ahead of this one is because of NCLs free UDP dining upgrade for all suite passengers - I'm expecting a rush of demand for the specialty dining, because "free" is always popular :)

  3. [quote name='Fishbait17']I've never seen it on board, and if they don't have it on the ship I don't think you can get it. But I know what you mean - I love it too! We usually bring it ourselves.

oops, I just noticed that (I think) you meant making it yourself versus the actual pre-mixed one? While I don't remember exactly what type of sparkling water they have on board, it's as good as plain Pelligrino (it might even be plain Pelligrino) - you should have a bottle of water upon boarding and should ask to switch it out for sparkling (first one should be free - pay for more unless in an Owner's Suite or higher). You could try to request from pre-concierge, but it might not be there on boarding - in that case just ask your butler on board. You can either order a pitcher of the "not real" orange "juice cocktail" or pay for the "real" fresh squeezed stuff from Cagney's. If you meant the pre-mixed stuff, I suggest you bring it yourself.

Thanks Robin - you were right the first time I do mean the pre-mixed cans. Am I allowed to bring my own beverages on board? If so what's the limit ?

    Thanks !
  4. So I'm addicted to San Pellegrino Aranciata - that's regular San Pellegrino sparkling water and orange juice. My family has tried several interventions but all to no avail, I pretty much mainline the stuff.

As it's not exactly a "standard" beverage what do you think the odds are that my concierge will accept an advance order for stocking my fridge with it (Haven Penthouse suite).

    thanks !!
  5. So we have the 24 hour butler and concierge service but I'm never certain where the butler service ends and the room service staff kick in.

The short list for the either/or would be:

    Breakfast in bed

Mimosas on the balcony for breakfast

    Cocktails before dinner

Also if anyone has any good general tips about how best to make use of the butler service I'd be grateful.

    Thanks in advance !!

  6. Do know that there are good and bad characters everywhere on this earth.. In, and outside of NY.

Absolutely - and I didn't mean to ding all New Yorkers, but that perception of them (right or wrong) is widespread and for the young woman I quoted it was based on her first hand experience of serving at least some of them.

  7. Unless things have changed since last summer, the reservations for restaurants (and entertainment on newest ships) do not come available in MyNCL until 45 days out - the same time for everybody. Suite guests can make reservations through pre-cruise concierge desk already 10 days earlier.

    That I didn't know - thanks so much !!

  8. So my DW is currently shopping for designer cocktail dresses and high heels for our upcoming cruise - she loved "formal nights" on our other cruises, but the more I learn about Freestyle dining I have this nightmare vision of her sitting there in Versace while everyone else is in shorts and a ballcap.

I just posted another thread about specialty dining and I now plan on doing that every night, but I'm still scared because she knows Karate.

Help, am I doomed or is there a dress-up option !!!!

  9. As in loud and nasty New Yorkers? lol I'm a New York native, not offended by the comment, just puzzled.

I sailed on Carnival Miracle our of Baltimore many years back and the crew was wonderful but they all shuddered when I mentioned their next port of sailing - New York.

Our senior waitress who was the most wonderful sweet girl you could ever wish to meet said simply "New Yorkers are such horrible people, they always want more and are never satisfied".

I think that may be your clue.

  10. I saw in another thread that you can make advance dinner reservations for specialty dining restaurants up to 55 days in advance of your cruise (for Haven guests) or 45 days (for other guests).

Can anyone tell me how this works and if there is a link on the NCL website, I just can't figure this one out !!

  11. I believe since you are in a suite you can make your reservations 55 days in advance. I know for non-suite guests it's 45 days in advance.

FYI...I just made reservations today for my cruise that leaves exactly 4 weeks from today and I had no issues getting all of the venues I wanted on the days and at the times I wanted. Then again, the free UDP promo did just start, so you make a good point.

I booked during this sale for the Getaway in September, and I'll be making our reservations as soon as I'm able, for that reason.

Thanks - how exactly do you make the advance reservations, is there an online link ?

  12. We are booked on Getaway in May in a Haven Suite so we get the UDP.

My one big concern is that the specialty dining locations will be swamped because well, free is popular, right :). I'm not sure how many Haven passengers there are on average, or how much of a problem this will prove to be, but the question is simple - how early can I make those reservations ?

    Thanks in advance !

  13. Booked a Haven Penthouse Suite on Getaway for a Caribbean cruise in May for self and DW, first ever cruise with Norwegian.

Have a bunch of first timer questions, any help you guys can give would be much appreciated.

    1. Is Haven worth the extra money, it looked amazing?

    2. I opted for the Platinum Insurance - anyone have any experience of making claims, e.g. is it a pay first and claim it back deal? Does it cover you for shipboard medical treatment without up front payment?

    3. They say that the ship leaves at 4pm, but that you should be there 2 hours earlier - what's the best time/earliest time to arrive at the terminal?

    4. Do suite residents get priority check-in, or can I pay extra for priority check-in?

    5. I got promo codes 14WAVE, DINING, PPSRVCHG, ULTIMATE - are these the food and beverage deals?

    6. Does NCL have a recommended limo service - this is kind of a special vacation, I want to push it out a little bit.

    7. Any other upgrades I should seriously consider booking in advance.

Sorry for all the newbie questions, and thanks in advance !!

  14. This promotion actually persuaded me NOT to book the cruise I had specifically picked out (Getaway on May 3rd Eastern Caribbean, Haven Suite) - because the free upgraded dining is going to result in chaos in the small restaurants.

I'd rather pay that have to fight through the masses to get a table in an overcrowded restaurant.

I don't think NCL thought this through, plus the suite prices look slightly higher than normal, so you're paying for it anyway.
