  1. I use a big box store for TA who is awesome. I call them to make changes and get price adjustments. Also like the extra perks.. Got $125 cash, ship board credit, soda package, speciality dinning & spa treatment for last cruise which was cheaper than Royal who wasn't offering anything. Can't beat that!

That's the key....a GOOD agent. A bad one can certainly be a pain, and probably not worth the extra bennies, but a good agent can be worth it without any extras.

  2. ..so who do you call if you need to cancel & rebook to take advantage of a new promotion, or a new deal... WITHOUT losing your original booking date or your original cabin? are you assigned a personal cruise consultant once you book online? Can you work with the same RC agent all the time??

I've never had an issue booking through the website and getting RCCL to give me any updated promotion pricing, and I don't think I've ever lost a cabin in the process, unless I'm moving up a category, in which case I'm getting a new cabin anyway. As for losing a booking date...I honestly don't know, I've not run into a scenario where it mattered all that much to me apparently.

You can work with the same agent if you call in for your original booking, and know their work hours, or at least you used to be able to.

When booking online you're not assigned a personal consultant, but that's not a worry to me, as I do all my own consulting with the help of my good friends here at CC. :D

  3. If you have a Walmart close (who doesn't) buy an Ozark Trail. Only $10 not $40 like the yeti. it's the same idea, ice stays over night.

I have an RTIC, a Sarge, and a couple of Ozark Trails. :) I also have assorted Yeti lids since they fit my RTIC cups and are easy to find.

Truthfully, they're all about the same, and I love them! I keep mine on me pretty much everywhere I go, in the golf cart in 100* heat they keep my water cold.

  4. One reason to book with Royal is so that you maintain 100% control over your reservation and don't have to go through a TA to make changes.

And the flip side to that is that if you have a GOOD agent, if there are any issues they may be able to help, see the story of the person who got left behind who's TA worked over and beyond to help him get back on the ship.

Also, you can get some deals when booking through a TA.

I typically book myself because I've been prone to midnight price checking and cabin changing, but that's me, and YMMV of course.

It depends a lot on each person, and each trip even. I'm looking at using a TA for a land based vacation because they can package things up a little neater than I can on my own.

  5. As long as there is no liquid in it going through airport security, it's not a problem. I often fill my thermal cup (not a Yeti but similar) with coffee once past security and keep that to sip on while waiting to board the plane. If I haven't finished it, I bring cup 'n coffee into the cabin.

I'm sure you'd have to pack it in checked luggage for airlines, but you can walk on an empty through RCCL easily.

Or maybe not according to Scubarn

Thanks for the info! I'll take mine, and just be sure to empty it before TSA.

  6. I'm fairly prone to motion sickness as well. I've had some seasickness on most cruises I've been on. I always take seabands and when I get a little motion sick I'll wear them. They work for me, it may be entirely psychosomatic, but it works. Candied ginger, green apples, and ginger ale will all help as well with out any of the medicated feeling.

For me the nausea just isn't that bad, and I'm able to enjoy myself.

Seabands are easy to come by, hit up your local pharmacy and look near the indigestion supplies, usually they're right near there, and they're about $10-15 a pair.

Edit: FWIW I don't suffer from motion sickness for the entire trip usually, it comes and goes, there are some things that trigger it for me. Waves (unless pretty major) don't bother me typically. I tend to notice it more near land where I have a visual representation of the ship moving, where I can't feel any motion, or the motion doesn't match the visual signal to my brain. Major waves have knocked me down pretty bad, but that's usually only for a few hours, and I'm typically fine once the ship has moved past the bumpy bits. Remember the Captains don't want to cause anyone to be sick, so they avoid bad weather as much as possible.

  7. I'm going to tag along with OP's question, has anyone had any issues in transit with their own mugs? (i.e. TSA/Airlines)

I love having cold water all day and take a cup with me just about everywhere and I'm undecided about taking mine on our next trip.

Thanks OP for a good question I didn't realize I wanted to ask.....;):)

  8. $12 Limit on most ships, $13 on Harmony (maybe Oasis/Allure too) So if the drink rings up @ $12 you're covered, any thing over, you're going to pay the difference +18%. Most well/rail drinks will be included, most beers I've seen would be included. Wine selections are limited, and that seems to be the big issue for a lot of people.

Gratuities are included in the purchase price of your package, but as always bartenders won't turn down an extra buck or two..

Coffees are usually ok, but he can always take your card when he picks up the coffee, and the barista may insist as well.

The bloody mary w/ beer is going to depend on how it rings out. You would be responsible for anything over $12

    Edit:

I'm not familiar with the "Beer form of bloody mary" you reference, but if it's a bottled pre-made product you may not find it onboard.

  9. Or RENT. Grease was by far my favorite movie when I was 10 - saw it over and over (as did my peers). My kids are involved in musical theater, lots of outdated customs in most of the oldies, but they're still great entertainment.

Adventure Ocean staff might decide the kids should to a rendition of "La Vie Boheme"

I went up to a donkey the other day and asked it to tell me some jokes. Stupid thing just sat there ignoring me.

I've seen Shrek. I know donkeys talk and tell jokes. They marry dragons and have Dragonkey babies. I know that is true.

    Stupid Donkey.....:p:p:p

  10. Food tastes vary wildly. The last time I was hunting cruise info (5+ years ago) I heard how the food had gone down hill and it was barely edible and others said it was great, and we liked it fine. It was as good as food prepared for 1000k people a sitting can be. You may like it and you may not, without knowing your personal preferences I don't think anyone will be able to say for certain, I'm equally sure other folks here will respond both ways.

I would say give it a shot, if you don't like it explore other options, there are plenty on Allure.

  11. I was reading a review for oasis for last week. It appears the prices are still up. I was looking at the pics he took of the drink menus and literally 80% of the drinks were over the $12 limit. Isn't the point of getting a package to not spend more. We set sail this coming Sunday and I'm curious who I can complain to ahead of time

I'm not sure what menu you saw, but the Oasis class is a $13 limit I believe

  12. If your iPad is the cellular version it has a GPS chip and it will provide your location. You'll probably have to be on an open deck to receive signal. With wifi only you won't receive the correct location. From my experience it will show you as being in the home port you left from.

Wifi is based on IP address, so location will definitely be a little off, maybe a lot depending on how the ship is routing internet traffic. GPS would work, and you might not need cellular enabled as long as wifi was, but I don't know for certain.
