  1. This should NOT happen. By all means put your foot down and insist on being taken to your preferred destination.

The Public Transport Unit licenses taxis in the Cayman Islands. Contact information is linked. You can direct complaints to their office. They would definitely need the driver's name. Other information such as description of the taxi and license plate number would be helpful.

Whether going by taxi or bus it helps to know landmarks to look out for. As you come from town Royal Palms is on the left. It is maybe a quarter mile past the traffic light at Lawrence Blvd. Pizza Hut and a gas station are on the right just before the traffic light. When you see those landmarks get ready get off the bus/have the taxi stop. If you pass a Burger King on the right then you have gone too far. (There is a Burger King much closer to town that you will pass but it is on your left.)

  2. To reiterate something I've occasionally had to point out...

The beaches are public up only from the edge of the water to the mean high water mark. That is up to the point where high tide reaches on an average day. It's not much since there is little tidal variation in Cayman.

To be specific, there is not enough public portion of the beach to allow you to lay down a towel on dry sand, excepting at the stretches of beach specifically dubbed Public Beach (capital letters) where the public own the and up to and/or past the roadway as well.

  3. Easter is a MAJOR holiday in Cayman. The Easter weekend, from Good Friday through to Easter Monday is comparable in importance to Thanksgiving in the US. MANY businesses will be closed, but many restaurants will have special Easter meals.

Saint Ignatius Catholic Church, located at 597 Walkers Rd is the only Catholic Church in George Town. They typically have Sunday Mass at 8:00am, 11:30am, or 6:00pm. Not sure if they will have extras services on Easter Sunday.

If you are arriving on the Disney ship (scheduled 7am arrival) then perhaps you could make the 8am mass. That could work with a brunch at either Agua or Grand Old House. Reservations are highly recommended. Just call a taxi from the church at the end of mass.

If you are on the MSC Opera its later arrival means you would be limited to the 11:30am mass. That makes you too late for brunch, but a later lunch might work.

Again you will need to call for a taxi from Grand Old House to take you to the beach. Agua is MUCH closer to the beach, within walking distance to Royal Palms (which would have a restroom suitable for changing).

Taxi or bus back to the port from any major beach stop shouldn't be too hard. But there might be many fewer taxis or buses on the road on Easter Sunday.

  4. Anyone been to Starfish Point?? Is it a fortune for taxi

    Yes. and YES.

Starfish point is normally visited by boat. A few operators offer a stingray sandbar visit with a stop at starfish point. Ususlly combined with a lunch at Rum Point or Kaibo. Whole trip is usually less than a one way taxi fare from the port to starfish point.

  5. Looks like your ship's visit is on the busiest day of the month. There are no cargo ships scheduled. My best guess is they are going to use the cargo dock as your tender pier. It's rare, but not completely unheard of.

The cargo dock is between the Royal Watler Terminal and the North Terminal.

  6. Kirk Market is a major supermarket on North Church St on the way to Seven Mile Beach. Sodas, snacks, ice, and general food is available but no alcohol. Groceries are not permitted to sell beer, wine, or hard liquor in Cayman.

For alcohol you will need to mostly stop at a liquor store. The Delworths Esso gas station in front of Kirk Supermarket is one of the very few gas stations that sells beer. I don't recall about liquor or wine.

Prices are MUCH HIGHER than duty free, but it is the only choice for consuming on island.

  7. On Grand Cayman the options are:

    In George Town

Royal Watler Terminal - The largest and most northerly. About two blocks north of the North Terminal

North Terminal - in front of Caridnall Ave, near Breezes by the Bay restaurant

South Terminal - in front of the Cayman National Museum

Cargo dock - As the name implies, it is typically only used for cargo vessels. VERY rarely for a medical evacuation and the like.

    In Spotts

Spotts Dock - an alternate tendering site for when the weather is rough in George Town Harbour

Cayman Brac is a different island, about 90 miles away from Grand Cayman. Very rarely some small ships visit there.

  8. How do you find out how many ships will be in port on a specific day? We will be there 3/2

The Port Authority of the Cayman Islands publishes an online calendar. Click here to go to the page to search.

For Wednesday March 2, 2016 there are five cruise ships scheduled with a maximum total passenger load of 15,405 passengers. Second busiest day of the month.

  9. That one is easy. If you took the Seven Mile Beach shuttle over there, they dropped you off at Calico Jack's Bar and Grill and RIGHT NEXT DOOR is the public beach called Governor's Beach. They have those cabanas right there and there is a kids playground nearby. Beautiful spot. We go there a lot.

Actually right next door to Calico Jacks is Seven Mile Beach Public Beach.

Governor's Beach is about a half mile closer to town.

  10. Buy fresh catch from the fishermen at the fish market on a tiny spot of beach on North Church St. Take it next door to Cayman Cabana and they will cook if as you like.

For finer dining, try Guy Harvey's Grill. A much wider variety of seafood and pasta dishes.

    Both have a nice view.

  11. Sure, it's possible. I'm sure the folks at the distillery would call a taxi for you at the end of a tour.

Not sure what the taxi fare would be overall. Taxi fares are regulated but the only times I take them are to/from the airport and those fares are inflated in the fare tables.

An estimate... Cab from port to distillery US$12 for up to three people. From distillery to brewery US$30 for up to three people.

Return fare by bus US$2.50 per person. That one I don;t have to estimate.

  12. Is there any place nearby to rent snorkeling gear at Cemetery Beach?

    Not within walking distance.

You could rent from Eden Rock near the port and then take it with you to Cemetery Beach. I think they let you take their snorkel gear off site.

  13. Grape Tree Café at Coe Wood beach in Bodden Town does a nice local style fried fish. But they are only open Friday to Sunday plus public holidays. But not too much to walk around to there.

Da Fish Shack on North Church Street is a short walk from downtown. Could do Seven Mile Beach either before or after depending upon your ship schedule.

Duke's near Seven Mile Beach public beach offers a nice fish and chips in addition to their usual Ribs and more.

  14. 7. The Cayman Islands brewery is located on Shamrock Road - the main east-west road that the buses travel to serve the eastern districts of the island. Buses should be quite frequent - certainly no more than a 10 minute wait.

To return to the port area from the brewery you should wait on the same side of the road as the brewery. Any public bus on your side of the road is going to the bus depot near the port. They all travel basically the same route so no one is faster than another.
