Trying to plan a cruise for hubby and I for his birthday and everytime I think I have a great itenerary i look at the reviews and it seems everyone hates the cruises! Are people just being jerks or is travel by cruise ship just not fun anymore?

We haven't cruised in over 15 years but had a great time on our last cruise to Alaska!

I would say that cruising has changed, and not for the better.  Before it was an intimate way to travel.  Nowadays with most of the midpriced cruise lines having ships that hold over 3000 people, people, myself included, feel that they are herded like cattle.  The food is definitely not as good and the service is not as personable.  At the ports, with that many people getting off of the ship, the destination is overcrowded and commercialized.   I use to love cruising.  I have been on over 60 cruises and now I prefer to travel differently.

  2. Has anyone sailed on this special cruise?  Thinking about giving it to my hubby for anniversary present, but want to make sure it is worth it....what are your thoughts?  positive and negative.  THANK YOU....................................................................................

Ok, not being snarky, but what actions would’ve helped? Did you want the staff to undress and bath your daughter? At 4, I’m sure she wa# using the pools and therefore showering there (at 4 all of my kids usually just showered anyway). Medical? You don’t  get sick by being exposed to dog urine. I’m guessing the hazmat suits are due to bodily fluids, by the book. I doubt anyone on the ship had any authority to throw the dog overboard, they didn’t allow this dog on. What if another child urinated on your child? What should happen to the parents? How should the family be compensated.

That said, do follow up with corporate, if only to prevent this from happening to others. I love dogs, I have a dog, there are plenty of places dogs don’t belong, like cruise ships (unless it’s a service animal of course, they belong anywhere and everywhere).

    I agree....for goodness sake......

To each their own and everything....but I've never understood the need for a pool with how nice the water is at CocoCay...even when we were there in Dec.

I have to agree with you.  You can swim in a pool anywhere....why wouldn't you want to take a dip in the beautiful ocean??  I guess that's why they make vanilla and chocolate.  🙂

  5. I was on the Grandeur last year this time and out of the 50+ cruises I have been on this ship was my LEAST favorite.  It was in desperate need of updating....it was loud (they had loud music playing 24/7 thruout the ship).  It was difficult to get drinks (one bartender on at a time and no waiters/waitresses).

Personally, I wouldn't go on the Grandeur again if someone gave it to me for free.  JMO

Is your cruise out of Miami or Port Canaveral?  If Port Canaveral, there won't be any Cruise Compasses available since Mariner does not get there until May.

We are cruising in October.  I just thought a sample of the MOS Cruise Compass for teens would give him some idea.

  7. Just an FYI:  It truly helps your experience if you research what you are purchasing.  It sounds to me that you did not, if you didn't know that the promenade was inside and the number of dining options.  I highly recommend using a travel agent.  They are trained to match you with the product that you are looking for.

  8. Hi All......My hubby and I will be taking our 13 year old on a cruise in October.  We are looking to sail on Mariner of the Seas.  What suggestions do you have to make sure he has the most awesome time ever????  He is going through some things and I want to make sure he enjoys himself.  THANK YOU in advance for your suggestions/comments.

  9. Hello All.....my hubby's boss has given us a cruise, which I am very grateful (I have been on over 40 cruises).  However, he has chosen the Anthem of the Seas and I just can not get excited.  I loathe crowds, can't stand being herded like cattle, hate "organized" activities aka belly flop contests and the like.  I much prefer smaller ships with education speakers.  We have cruised many times on RCCL (Diamond Plus Member) however most of our sailings were prior to the mega ships.

Please tell me something that is going to get me excited about this cruise.........The destination is Bermuda (which is where we got married) which I have been numerous times.  Please help....anything ....  thank you.

  10. Thanks for your input. I am going to believe the experienced long time members of CC however. Dirty ship? Have never been on a dirty ship in all of my many cruises. That statement alone tells me you’re full of baloney.

FYI I have been on 65 cruises so i would say that I am an experienced cruiser. Obviously i just have higher standards then u! I guess that is why they make coach class.

  11. Okay then. So you joined CC just to write a negative review???? Really?

The Grandeur is in no way, shape or form "dirty, unkept and in need of refurbishment". She has a great, friendly staff and you will constantly see that staff cleaning, painting and keeping up the ship.

You will definitely be able to relax and unwind. The solarium is wonderful and adult only.

I was merely reporting MY experience. No need to be so RUDE. I can see why u liked it so much.

  12. My husband and I would like to take my nephew, 14, on a cruise. I just don't know which cruise line or ship to take him on. He has been through a very rough time and I want him to have the time of his life. Any suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  13. Soooo, we recently returned from the Carnival Victory. I actually wrote a short review for the first time. We have NEVER had a bad cruise until now. Even the other four Carnival cruises we have been on were pretty good.

Anyway, not much written about the Grandeur. I know it is an old, smaller ship than we are used to. (yes we love the mega ships..Oasis, Allure, Breakaway, Anthem). This will be a 12 day cruise and we are very much looking forward to it, but we are hoping it is a mostly relaxing cruise. My question is: Is the atmosphere more laid back, romantic, calm and generally friendly? Not looking for bells and whistles this time. Does this "fit the bill"? Any tips or opinions? Greatly appreciated.

Was on the Grandeur in March. I found that it was very difficult to find a place to relax without music blaring and commotion everywhere. This was the first cruise I gave 1 star too. Even the Diamond Club was noisy with the Art Auction. The ship is dirty, unkept and in GREAT need of refurbishment. For the whole story please look on the Review Board. I highly recommend cruising on another ship.

  14. Looking to cruise to Bermuda in late May or early June next year on either Anthem (out of NJ, big ship) or Grandeur out of Baltimore (medium size ship).

We really don't care about the fancy bells and whistles of the Anthem.

What we care about is fewer teenagers. Decent food and a relaxing ship. Good shows. Never been on Royal however we liked a Princess cruise when the school was still on so not that many teenagers.

Be aware that the water will be very cold in Bermuda in May.

  15. My hubby and I are planning to cruise to Bermuda 8/19 on the Insignia. We were looking at the Cabin Categories and have a question.....is the Concierge Veranda Cabin worth the extra $300.00? Having never been on this ship, I do not know the true difference. Any advice/comments would be greatly appreciated.

Also, would you recommend a cabin on the back of the ship?

    Thank you.
