  1. I've been researching all three places (Maya Chan, Nohoch and Almapeda). All of them sound great for different reasons and I'm excited that we will be there soon!

My one major factor I'm dealing with, is that my Mom would like to join us this day, but she has a very bad back. Many times, she uses a wheelchair for longer walks etc, but she is mobile and can walk around on her own when she needs to.

I know that I've read many reviews that say the roads to these resorts are pot hole ridden and provide an adventurous ride. :) I think a ride that is too long and bumpy, or too "adventurous" overall might do a number on her back and make her feel worse.

Can anyone recommend the resort that they think has the easiest ride to and from the port? I would really, really appreciate the advice. Thank you!

  2. My daughter is 5 and has always LOVED the kids programs on the cruises we've been on. (RCCL, Disney, Carnival) This is our first time on Norwegian and I'm hoping she loves it just the same.

I saw that someone had posted dailies for her age group and was browsing through them. It seems like there was a LOT of "freestyle play". I know she loves the activities, crafts, games the most. Did any of your children seem bored by that many stretches of free play?

I also noticed that every afternoon (before the 2 pm afternoon break) there is a Family Activity. Are these events required to go to (they are outside of the kids room, on other decks) or are they just optional, and if you don't go with your child, they can stay in the kids room and keep playing in there?

I'm just trying to get an idea of what to expect. Any other input or advice about the kids club would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

  3. cruisin0504: Yes, you can just tell the taxi driver Sapphire beach and he will know where to take you. They seem to load you up with people going to Red Hook to catch the ferry to St. John. So they usually drop them off first (quick) and then go up the road to Sapphire. It is quick and easy. Our driver came back for us later in the day. We told him what time we were looking to leave and he was there waiting for us. I guess it depends on their plan for the day, but I saw others who just walked out and got a taxi that was dropping off others. I'm sure they're in and out all day. And yes, there are bathrooms. They're small and not the greatest..but they served their purpose and were nice to have!

  4. We always stay at Cape Canaveral Residence Inn and we love it. It's very clean, spacious and the free breakfast is great. They have an outdoor pool that the kids love (we just used it in January!) and it's very close to the port. You can see the ships from the parking lot. They have a free shuttle, but we usually call a taxi so we don't have to wait and do the crowded/luggage packing process. I highly recommend it!

  5. We took a taxi from our cruise port to Sapphire Beach ($6 pp) and we're so glad we did! The beach is beautiful and the views of St. John from the shore are stunning. The weather wasn't really on our side and we had some clouds, some sun and lots and lots of wind. Because of the wind, the water was quite rough and a bit chillier than we had hoped for. Other than that, it was the perfect place to go. It was not crowded, there's a place to rent chairs and umbrellas. You can rent snorkel gear by the hour or the day, along with kayaks. (We rented snorkel gear but had to give up since it was so rough.) There are beautiful Seagrape trees lining the beach, so if it were sunnier out, there would have been plenty of shade and it was quiet scenic overall. We set up under the trees and had a very nice day. We did eat there, though we were told the hotel had a snack bar (which looked liked burgers and dogs) and they said we could order pizza from a local pizza place that would be delivered. We got a few beers from them ($3 each! Can't complain about that!) and had a very nice time. We didn't stay as long as we'd hoped due to the weather, but we would go back in a heartbeat again when in St. Thomas.

  6. I read about Executive VIP Limo here on the boards and went with them this year for our cruise. I'm so happy we did!! Not only were they prompt, friendly and had a nice car...but they went above and beyond in customer service. The airline lost my luggage and we were also delayed 8 hours. They never grumbled about the late arrival, they were there with a smile. Once the driver found out that I lost my bag, she brought us to a 24 hour Walmart so I could pick up things I needed. Usually they do a quick store stop, but this was almost 45 minutes to get everything I had to replace. She was wonderful about it and never grumbled. (We did give her a very nice tip, but this is before she knew she was getting one!) She was so concerned that she even called me the next day to see how things turned out. It was incredibly nice and they certainly did not need to do that for me.

Our return trip was equally as pleasant. We called her when we got off the ship and she was in a parking bay waiting for us and our luggage. We were in the car within minutes, and on our way to the airport.

I had a great experience with them and if that is indicative of their service overall, then you should definitely use them when in the area! Thanks to Executive VIP Limo! (321-505-0009)

PS Their rates were cheaper than Cocoa Beach Shuttle, whom we had used in the past. Bonus!
