  1. Hi CirrusPilot. No, it is not a dumb question. Yes, I am talking about the corner units. I think there has been some confusion because of the class of ship we are all talking about. The corner wraps on the older Spirit class ships (Spirit, Pride, Miracle, and Legend) are actually SUITES, called Vista Suites. They have two separate rooms - living area and bedroom. There is a dressing area, walk in closet, bathroom with Jacuzzi and his and her sinks. The wrap balconies are amazing. I have sailed in them over the years (including a 12 day Hawaii) at least 5 times. There are no staff stairs nearby on this class of ship. If my memory serves me well, the least desirable deck is 5 because there is only one room in that suite as they are smaller. If you ever have a chance to book one of these suites please do! The only drawback I have encountered is more vibration than cabins mid-ship.

Now, if you are talking about the aft wrap balcony (not suite) cabins on the Triumph, Dream, or Vista class ships then they are one room balcony cabins that are a bit different shapes depending on deck. The balconies are still amazing. Yes, they are close to a crew stairwell. While we have not stayed in the aft wrap balconies on these ships we have sailed in the adjacent L shape balcony cabins. We heard NO sounds from those crew stairwells. Maybe others can chime in on that.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks! Yea I think we are talking about the same stateroom. I like the idea of the wrap around balcony and I will probably buck my VP’s advice and use try one out. I was in one a long time ago when a friend had it but we never got it on our own. I am thinking it’s worth a try. :)

  2. I believe this is always true of both Carnival Cruise Lines and Planet Fitness:

No matter how out of shape you think you are, there's going to be someone there in worse shape than you.

No need to worry, enjoy your cruise!

    This.

Don’t worry about it. Have fun.

  3. Just returned from 10 day on Horizon. We never had to wait for a table, and always had excellent service. We went most nights between 6:30-7:30. I would do anytime dining again.

I much prefer anytime dining as I never know when exactly I will be hungry.

Having said that, my wife and are notorious for eating in the steak house multiple nights on a cruise. I make 730 reservations and we never fail to show, even if all we have is dessert or appetizers cause we hit the MDR. Lol

  4. I have my wife and my iPhones on an unlimited talk and text international plan that covers us when on the ship.

We are limited to just 200mb each though.

We will keep data off if possible but ashore we are unlimited across the board.

Was a pricey option but I would rather spend a few bucks and have communication when we need it versus saving a buck and not.

    This is on ATT

  5. Yea. I don’t mean to be a downer or overly negative. It’s just that my wife and I were along with them and other friends and after she said she didn’t want to get married yet, ya coulda cut the tension in the air with a knife for the rest of the cruise.

They are married now (she finally said yes. Lol) but holly crap bubbles did that situation suck!

In the upside, seen and heard of many turning out just fine. My only real opinion is to be darn sure of what her answer is going to be.

It’s awesome when it goes right but terrible when it doesn’t.

  6. My son has decided that he is going to propose to his girlfriend while on our cruise next week on the Elation to HMC and Nassau. He's not sure if he just wants to do it while on the beach or while on the ship. She is not one who likes alot of attention focused on her which is the total opposite of my son! Any suggestions?

I had a friend do this....and she caught him completely off guard by saying “no”

It made the remainder of the cruise really awkward.

Make sure he is confident on the answer imo.

  7. I am the OP and was talking about a single cruise. The Legend (Spirit class) on a Jan 2020 specialty cruise (8 day partial Panama Canal transit). Today's pricing reflects a more normal trend. Suites are higher than balconies. I don't know if it was a glitch or not, but I booked an aft wrap suite for less than the price of a standard balcony. I feel very lucky indeed! Others also must have taken the plunge because all of the ocean suites are gone, along with over half of the aft wrap suites, and several of the grand suites. My philosophy on cruise pricing is to always be satisfied with the price you pay, if upgrades happen or prices go down than that is an appreciated bonus. On this particular cruise I am quite satisfied!

This might be a dumb question but what do you mean by “aft wrap suite”? The corner units?

If so, I thought several times about grabbing those but my vacation planner always talks me out of it. He doesn’t like their proximity to staff stairs or something.

Just wondering if I am thinking of the same thing you are. [emoji2]

  8. For the life of me, I can't understand why people tip more when the tip is already included in the price of the meal (and always has been). Granted, it's your money and you can do as you please with it since you earned it but to add an extra tip after already tipping is like rolling up a $10 bill and using it to light a cigarette.

No it’s not. It’s called investing in people. I have no problem giving a modest reward to those who provide my family and I with especially good service. I know a few extra dollars sometimes can make a difference in their lives and if they are willing to put in the effort to insure we have a great time, I am willing to reward that extra effort with a tip directed personally to them. Call me old fashioned but I always ignore any no tipping policies if the service was good. It’s just who I am and how I was raised. Sharing my good fortune with people genuinely making an effort to give us good service is not at all the same as burning a ten dollar bill. What is right for me is of course not so for everyone.

To each his own. It’s a personal preference I suppose.

  9. We sailed on the Triumph in 2016 with our (then) 12 year old. We didn't have any issues, and he had a great time. All ships have to go to drydock every so often (I think about every 5 years). There are rumors that the Triumph may get more than the normal refreshment, but I don't really know. I would not hesitate to cruise on the Triumph again.

    This. :D:D

  10. I don’t think it’s the SS Minnow or anything like that. In fact I’d guess that with the recentish issues, it’s probably under a heightened level of scrutiny by the big cheese at HQ.

    I wouldn’t worry too much.

The Triumph is what inoculations are all about. Kidding.

    You’ll have fun.

  11. Well, many moons ago I worked food service. It sucked.

As a result when someone gives me especially good service, I tip directly to that individual.

The way I see it, the CruiseLine takes a percentage and distributes it more or less equally...to both lazy or bad servers and good alike. Tipping on top rewards those who do an exceptionally good job and hopefully causes others to see that extra service nets a reward.

  12. I can't speak to the Splendor, but it depends on the ship as well as its location.

Sometimes the "value" works great. On the last cruise. I bought the premier package b/c I needed it for work. It was awful.

Couldn't even send an email half the time. Dropped the connection several times, and sometimes took as much as 20 minutes to reconnect.

Whichever package you end up buying, if you are not happy with it, don't hesitate to get your money back even if you've used it for several days.

    Thanks. That’s my fear.

  13. Wondering if anyone has advice on the Wifi quality aboard the Splendor?

Am planning on purchasing the middle WiFi package or depending upon the answers, perhaps the higher level for our 7 day Mex Riviera cruise.

Ordinarily I wouldn't bother but for this cruise I will need to retain access to my email and I know my wife will want to be able to post stuff to her social media accounts.

Is the signal consistent and the internet speed sufficient to do such things as above?

My phone has some International package that pretty much lets me use it as I please wherever I am on the globe. Internet, text, and of course calls are all pretty much limited to an amount I would probably never reach anyway. Basically I need the WiFi package to reach the internet.

    Any opinions?

  14. We never buy the drink packages, either, as we would never drink enough to break even. We have not cruised with Carnival since 2007, so my question is (for budgeting sake) what is the cost of beer (Bud Lite, Coors Lite, and regular Heineken—all my hubby’s favorites). As for me—frozen cocktails, Mojito, Margarita, and glasses of wine. Thank you in advance.

From what I can see after taxes, tags and fees etc drinks are about 10 bucks each. Wine will be more depending upon the bottle or glass ordered. I tend to drink rather expensive wines when I do drink (Dinner mostly) and there is no way that they will be just 10 per glass. I think (could be wrong) that the alcoholic package has a 50.00 per bottle limit. At that level and given the markups I have seen in the past on Carnival, a wine drinker would have to be consuming MD20/20 or some crap out of a box. Ummmm blech!

The package makes sense if you are onboard with your entire frat and hell bent on partying it up. But not if you have any sort of expensive taste or ;pdidn't bring along your own beer bong.;p

  15. If you are not drinking much, just buy the drinks a la carte. It's going to be way cheaper than Cheers.

There is also a wine package you can get onboard, if you want wine with dinner. It works out to about $6 a glass for the low end package.

Aye. Thanks Salty! I saw that they wanted over 800 bucks for my wife and I under the alcoholic drink program. Forget that!! Excluding wine with dinner there is no way I would even come close to making that work out. Some wines I like would push us over that easily over the course of 7 days but not with the 50.00 per bottle limit in place. If I remember correctly, their onboard wine cellar is massively marked up. The package might have made sense when I was 21 years old but if I drank anywhere near what it would take to make it work out now, OYYY!! lol

  16. I have booked a cruise for November to take my mom on for her birthday. I booked it a few months ago and my dad knows, but she doesn't. How long would you be able to hold the surprise? I plan on buying insurance at final payment time but seeing if I can make it to about one week out before telling her.

I once actually held the secret all the way to the port.

It was just a three day cruise so it wasn’t terribly difficult to pack a bag for her. Lol

I had put her bag in the trunk the night before.

The port is in long beach and there are a lot of places to do stuff so she didn’t know what was up until we got in line for the check in.

    Rofl.

  17. We moved from a balcony to a jr suite obstructed view for less money on our trip in a few weeks on the Sensation. We always have done interior so this is a big change for us! I’m nervous for the obstructed view and if we made the right choice (but we couldn’t pass up the great deal)!

I think you will find that the upgrade is well worth the money. I could never do an interior.

For me a cruise is all about relaxation and decompression. A balcony is a must have because I will spend a lot of time on it just watching the ocean pass by.

Enjoy your suite and don’t worry about the obstructed stuff. It will still be a whole lot better if a view than the interior 🤪
