  1. We will be traveling to Singapore, and spending two nights before boarding a cruise. After the cruise we have one additional night we could spend in Singapore, or in Phuket. We then will fly to Phuket and stay at a Marriott timeshare for one week. After the timeshare week we are going to fly to Bangkok and have four nights in Bangkok.

We have Hotel Points with Marriott, Hilton, and IHG hotels. We would like to use points for our hotel stays. Can anyone recommend hotels in Singapore and in Bangkok which are in a good location and where we could try and book using points.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  2. Hi Ian,

Overall we were pleased with the itinerary. It would have been nice to have a few extra days onboard. The five days on the ship went by very quickly. (A lot of packing and unpacking on this itinerary, but we knew this ahead of time.) Our program director was Sebastian. He was excellent! A very friendly and personable young man. Our Captain was Captain Ber. I have never seen a more friendly and on-hands captain. He was even helping the crew load and unload items in the ports. He gave us a tour of his wheelhouse. He was a constant presence onboard. Food was delicious and plentiful.

We left Berlin by bus at 730AM to head to Potsdam and San Soucci palace. We were then bussed to see Worlitz Gardens and Park before heading to the Beyla around 4PM. We met the ship in Wittenberg. Embarkation was quick, luggage was delivered promptly and we were wine tasting by 5PM!

The optional tours we chose were:

Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp (from Berlin) A very moving experience, good audioguide.

Berlin Evening Tour, which included dinner and a bus tour around the monuments lite up at night.

Lobkowitz Palace, included lunch, concert and tour. Very nice afternoon.

Folklore Dinner, includes musicians, dancers, and a ho hum meal. This was fun because of our company, but I would not recommend it.

    Any other questions??

    Annette

  3. Hello beemer2,

We sailed on Viking Beyla from Berlin to Prague on July 25th. We got lucky and had a few rainy days early on in Berlin. The ship was able to sail the full route to Decin. We feel very fortunate as this is not always the case.

You are able to book all optional shore ex ahead of your sailing on the Viking website.

I would be happy to answer any questions on this cruise.

  4. We will arrive in Amsterdam on Wed July 13th off Oceania's Nautica. We are docked from 0800-1800 hrs. We would like to visit the Van Gogh museum, the Hermitage Museum and maybe do a canal cruise.

Can someone recommend the order to visit and the route we should travel. Is it possible to get to these sites by the tram from the cruise docks, or should we take a taxi?

    Thanks for your help.

  5. We are looking for a Norway Fiords cruise for 2017. We would like to go up the coast to North Cape. Celebrity does not offer this option. We have never sailed on either Norwegian or Princess. Norwegian is about 2T less expensive than Princess for the aft balcony we hope to book. If anyone has sailed these lines I would love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks in advance for your time.

  8. Thank you KeithJenner for your reply. It will be just two of us on this cruise. I may also be better off on a lower deck as I have been known to have some issues with sea sickness.

Hope someone knows if the balconies are bigger on one deck or the other. Is there a cabin spreadsheet for the Jewel class ships?

    Thanks again!

  9. Thinking about booking a Norway cruise on the Jade in 2017. We like the Aft cabins. We would like some opinions about booking either a B1 balcony on Deck 8,9,10 or a Mini Suite on Deck 11. Are any of these balconies bigger than the others? Do any of these balconies have loungers? The Mini Suites on Deck 11 are below the Great Outdoors Area. Is there any noise because of this? Is there a cabin spreadsheet for the Jewel class ships?

    Thanks for your thoughts!

  10. We sailed on the Silhouette Jan 17-24, 2016. I purchased an over the door shoe

organizer at WalMart for less than $8.00. I hung the organizer on the outside of the bathroom door. The door closed without a problem. The shoe organizer held the shoes for two people with room for other small items. It kept things off the floor and well organized. I brought it home and will take it on our next cruise in October. It worked out very well and the room attendant never blinked an eye when she saw it. I would recommend taking one if you enjoy an organized space.

  11. Disembarked Silhouette on Jan 24th in Port Everglades. We were part of a large group and were scheduled to depart at 0800 hrs. They finally called our number at 0830 hrs. We left the ship and walked to the waiting area. It took over one hour to get to where the luggage was waiting. The people who left the ship after us waited outside for over one hour, at least we were under cover. It was cool and raining when we left the ship. We found our luggage quickly and then waited for over 45 mins for the custom agents. They only had 3 customs agents and things were moving very slowly. It was almost 1100 hrs when we got to our transport bus.

The Ft. Lauderdale is airport is only 10-15 mins from the port by taxi. Even if your disembarkation is as slow as ours was you would still be able to make your flight.

  12. Hi Norris,

I have been enjoying reading your "Gentleman's Seafaring Journal."

My husband and I were on this cruise as well. We were part of the 2nd Honeymooner Group from The Villages,FL. Perhaps you saw all the red shirts onboard. It is so interesting reading about all the different options that we did not try! Your pictures and videos are great. Happy to be sailing along with you on this adventure once again!

  13. Packing for our trip and ready to attach the luggage tags we got from our travel agent. I thought I would be clever and ordered the Cruise Critic Luggage Tag holders for RCCL/Celebrity cruises. Has anyone used these?

The luggage tags are about 2 inches longer than the plastic tags when folded in half. This seems to be a good way to totally lose the luggage tag. When folded so that they can read the ship and cabin info the name and bar code would be obscured. How do people use these plastic tags? I feel like I spent money on these and they are useless! H E L P!

  15. Called Celebrity today and they were able to help me get registered for the Cruise Critic Connections party. The Captains Club desk worked with the Group booking area to get the problem resolved. Now all we need are more CC people to sign up for the Jan 17,2016 Silhouette party!
