  1. It's probably because household laundry deities are usually Godesses. A notoriously temperamental species of divine entity. They require a great deal more supplicating than the ones aboard cruise boats.

    Dear Shiny,

I have just had a wasted journey to the opticians, who informed me that my eyes are fine, but that you are suffering from Small Font Syndrome (SFS).

    Sir Martin

Who approves of Mr SS's posts, but now needs a Hubble telescope to read them.

  2. Deck - 9

    Cabin # - 9247

    Class – Concierge

Starboard or Port Side - Port

Bed near?(balcony or bath) – Balcony

Quiet Cabin (With comments on problems. Note if connecting. ) – No noise (connecting cabin)

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – Fine - no forward view, but not a problem

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal

Was wind a problem? Only after eating certain things...

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem?

Any specific problems with this cabin? Balcony affected badly by cooking smells from below , and several times a day they cook industrial quantities of garlic down in the galley. Unfortunately, this is my pet hate, but others are probably not bothered.

    Any other comments?

  3. I was to surprised to hear this. We store our luggage under the bed. Will there still be any room there ?

We just got back from a cruise on Azamara....I find it impossible to believe that there is a ship with a smaller shower than theirs !

There is still room for luggage under the beds, and plenty of storage space in the wardrobes - we had no problem, and do not travel light, though we tend to hang up everything possible instead of using the drawers.

The showers are very small indeed:eek:.

  4. Sorry, but I don't follow what you are saying here.

My view is very simple: I have been quoted a price for a service, I accept the quote and pay the quoted price. There should be no need to pay anything else.

Agreed, but subject to the terms and conditions in the contract, on the website and in the brochure - tipping is covered therein. Oh, and it's not compulsory - there is the option to opt out, should you be so inclined.

I really could not care less about the ins and outs of tipping, but it is made pretty clear that, unless you have it removed, an amount to cover it will be charged daily to your on board account. If they decide to change this policy, it will simply be added to the price...

  5. Hhi guys I was gonna ask this question but was scared to start another tipping thread!!!! I know about the auto tip and will tip extra for great service, but the 15% charge at the bar does that go to the barman or in a pool?

This will be our first cruise of any kind.

    Cheers gaz

The 15% goes into a pool, or so we've been told. Anything on top of that, given in cash, is believed to be kept by the individual, although the bar staff may sometimes have a private arrangement between themselves to pool the cash tips.

Having said that, what happens to the auto-tips is one of life's great, long-debated and disagreed-upon, mysteries.

  6. To digress slightly, and probably open up a can of worms that I may regret, does anyone know what the staff, for example cabin stewards, are actually paid?

According to a recent second-hand report, on a line I shan't name, it was $30 per month, which I find difficult to believe:eek:.

  7. There are a fair number of gay regular posters on these boards; many of them are repeat passengers, and I doubt they would had they experienced any problems from fellow passengers or crew. Having said that, you probably get the occasional ignorant person wherever you go.
