  1.

The Racism comment is completely out of line....

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Maybe, but I don't find it all that offensive. The processes of discrimination are remarkably similar regardless of the basis. I don't know anyone who wants to be discriminated against on any basis.

  2. Don't feel bad folks. A few years ago we received a disinvitation to the first cruise Mariners lunch on a B2B. HAL outright asked that we not attend the first lunch.

Actually, we really don't care for the Mariner's lunch anyway. As noted above this is a great day for lunch in the Pinnacle. After that experience, we did not stop cruising HAL, but we rarely attend the luncheons anymore.

One time they did not send us an invitation to either luncheon, so I filled out a complaint card. The front office arranged a dinner in the Pinnacle as compensation.

It all comes out prettn even. :):):)

  3. I guess I was fortunate when I emailed my TA when there was a price drop and asked her if there was a chance HAL would pass it on to me.

A couple of hours later she emailed me back - they'd passed on the savings and I kept the promotional perks (which I hadn't even thought to ask about).

It was over $600, so I thought worth the question...

A good TA is worth her weight in gold.

  4. Is there something missing here?

For a particular cruise, HAL charges a given price that includes certain perks. Later, they decide to lower the price as they are eliminating the perks. Perhaps the web site has a small delay in conveying this information.

Now it seems as though you are expecting to get the lower price and still retain the perks. This does not sound reasonable as the price was lowered because, in part, the perks were not being included.

I guess I don’t understand your complaint. You made a deal for a cruise and now you want the opportunity to ignore the agreement. And as long as it is before the final payment date, HAL will permit you to do so.

But is it really reasonable for you to expect HAL to give you both the lower price and the perks?

That is just what I was thinking. If one is a really savvy shopper, there is money to be saved, and we certainly have taken advantage of that from time to time. There is no way one can expect to get the lowest possible price every time, especially when you don't stay on top of the cruise market.

For a Neptune Suite, we would happily trade off the perks for the lower price. A $ignificant price reduction will pay for an awful lot of schnapps! :D

  5. We haven't cancelled any cruise plans, but on the other hand, for the first time in five years we don't have any reservations either. I think the misinformation is as omnipresent as the truth, and to be honest, I don't know what to believe. We have been receiving an unusually high number of emails offering cruise deals, but we haven't acted on any of them.

  6. A couple of things I've experienced with the CPAP. The ship board water is not the same as distilled, but you can use it in your machine if you rinse out the container and replace the water fresh every day.

The airlines don't like the lithium batteries, and may relieve you of it if they find it. I have a lithium battery that I use as a back up in case of power outage, but I pack the extension cord. To be safe, you want a total of about 20 ft between your machine cords and the extension. That will cover every class of cabin.

As has been said before, you want a good quality three prong extension, not a lamp cord. They aren't that expensive, and the one I have has lasted for over fifteen years.

    Sleep well!;)

  7. I think postphone is the correct term.I have had a total of 15 stents and a quad bypass. We did have to set the cruising aside for awhile, but we are back at it again. Retirement is a wonderful part of life that I would not want to miss, but it isn't a good time to be sitting around waiting for anything. A second medical opinion is always in order.:)

  8. We had our first Neptune suite experiences this year. The answer to your question is "just about anything lawful as long as you are consenting adults." We used the consierge for everything from dinner reservations to appointments with Future Cruise Consultant. The took care of special requests for beverages and food too.

  9. We have tried everything.:) The stateroom we book depends upon the part of the world. For the Carribbean we always book inside and pick a specific cabin. For Canada - New England and Alaska, we book a veranda guarentee simply because there are no bad veranda staterooms on the S and R class ships. And as others have mentioned, we make sure our TA knows we are open to upsell offers.

  10. We love being part of the riff raff on Hal.:D:D:D
And so do we! We just finished up another cruise on the Amsterdam out of Seattle for two weeks in a Vista Suite. That is significant, because now we have actually occupied just about every class of stateroom except the Pinnacle Suite. And that is not likely to happen anytime soon.

We had an amazing meet and greet, forty or fifty people showed up. Once again, we met a lot of wonderful shipmates, really interesting people including the one and only RuthC.

To all who have posted here, thank you! I am amazed that this thread is still going.

  11. Certainly not "worse", but sometimes I wonder about the "better".

I was already 4* when the new program started, and was already 5* when it was expanded.

I tend to be friendly, smiling, and pleasant and I never know if it is just my "way" that the staff/crew respond to, or if it's my Mariner status. I do know that I am treated very well on board, but I felt that I was treated well before the star program, too.

I just don't know how much the 5* comes into play.

I don't know how much the 4*comes into play either. Treating the crew and stewards with courtesy and respect works big time.
