  1. What's your hotel budget? What are the exact dates you will need a hotel room? I'm assuming two people.

It's all about balancing time, money and stress. It will take you about an hour to get into Manhattan from a Newark Airport hotel and will cost $12.50/pp each way. I'm a big fan of the hotels in the Newport area of Jersey City if they fit your budget because of the PATH train service to NYC for$2.50/pp each way. If you can manage your luggage, the light rail can easily be taken to Bayonne from these hotels for $2.10/pp plus a $10-12 cab ride.

Thanks so much. This has made my thoughts more accurate on what is best. I have researched hotels that include full breakfast (why we like Country Inn) and have found out they will also shuttle us to the cruise port for a small fee, sometimes free if they have enough cruise guests on route that day. I will have to verify that its location is close to the PATH service. Will look up this system and its schedule.

    Thanks again!

  2. I forgot to ask what is a promo code? It was mentioned to go on Google to get the promo code. What domain type in on the search? And, is there a promo code for each airline, say Delta?

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

Just search- (airline) promo code - and you will get many sites that offer codes for different things. You can do this for anything, any name and add "promo code".

  3. We are sailing out of Cape liberty and want to visit 2-3 days previous to see sights. We like the Country Inn Hotels and not sure if its better to stay close to cruise port and commute to atrractions, or stay close to New york and then take taxi to cruiseport. Anyone find one more advantagious than the other?

  4. My best advice is to book in late fall for next late spring-early summer and jan-march for fall-winter flights. The best online is direct through airline websites with promo code you can google for and on a Wed after 12am-2am (that would be staying up late Tues. night.) This strategy works for me everytime...I can usually find return flights 150-300 less in price....depending on where I'm going.

  5. Another option to consider for those that fly in a day before...stay at a hotel in Richmond instead of near Canada Place or downtown. Many of these hotels have free transportation from the airport to hotel and from hotel to cruiseship terminals. We like Delta Inn. We live an hour from Vancouver, but like staying at the hotel the night berfore a flight goes out (and they have free parking for up to 2 weeks), as this sets us in the mood for "holiday begins" without the feeling of "rushing" to get somewhere for our holiday. This hotel has a nice pub/restraunt that overlooks the waterway heading out to the ocean.

I agree about restraunt experience. The Cactus Club is just as good.

  6. You can go to this website and book local tranfers.

IN VICTORIA GO TO: Marg's Fish N Chips on the Warf (can walk from ship). Ask any local for directions..its famous for fresh fish and cool to eat on the warf! (I'm originally from there)

  8. International waters is the key to a corporation enabling themselves to promote gambling without laws of the land. International waters are only a few miles from land.

When I lived in Victoria, BC, Canada (many moons ago when there was NO gambling aloud in city) we used to take "gambling cruises" on a local ship that just went a few miles out and we gambled while still seeing the city lights.

  9. I realize my relative age puts me at an disadvantage here, but I have sailed on some real classics, so I'll add a few to the list. I miss the European crew (no, I mean in the dining rooms and stateroom quarters too), the real parade of Baked Alaska, an authentic afternoon tea, and the high level of service you got. Clearly, we have other valuable amenities now, but some of us liked it the other way too. Thanks for sharing all...

We had the Real Parade on Volendam Alaska Cruise in 06. I think HA is the only one that does this for their Alaska trips.

  10. Here is a good idea of transportation yvr-downtown vancouver:

    Hotels:

Renissance is close to Stanley Park, Denman St., and short walk to Canada Place. (cruiseship terminal)

    Fairmont Waterfront is Canada Place.

Delta Airport is a good choice for those wanting to stay near airport. They have a special rate for ppl flying in & out, with a free airport shuttle & an Air Canada pre-check-in kosiak.

Here is a good site for hotel choices:

  11. I have changed my sisters inside cabin on deck 4 to an inside on deck 7 so she can be near us (balcony hogs) on Vision OTS. Her room sits sideways rather than long. It says square footage is smaller, but does it still give the illusion that its as spacious, considering the door is now on the long wall rather than short wall (where you see the couch and bed immediately in front of you)
