  1. What is the best route to walk to this restaurant from OSJ docks? Looks like the Reflection docks in pier 3 which I believe is directly across the street from the OSJ Sheraton. Very interested in going to Punto De Vista for the mofongo and mojitos. Anyone that has been there before, would appreciate your thoughts on the best, safest route to walk to this restaurant.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Ok, I read this in another thread. Is this correct?

"The RC lines uses the Pan Am pier across from OSJ only for embarkation/debarkation. For day stops, they use the OSJ piers."

So, since we are just stopping in San Juan, not leaving from San Juan, will the Reflection dock next to OSJ?

  3. Many thanks.

    Enjoy your cruise!

Count me in that you have provided us great information. I don't have a problem with you injecting your opinion about the S-class ships and design issues you have identified. This will be my first cruise on Celebrity and I suspect I will love it since I love cruising but I agree about the flaw of not having a promenade deck. I have cruised only on Princess and love having that. My wife and I spent a lot of time walking around the ship on the promenade deck, especially in Alaska. Will miss that but looking forward to other aspects of the Reflection. After my cruise next month, I might disagree with you on other design aspects or I might agree but don't have a problem with you sharing your opinions. Would love to see something like this for the other cruise lines.

  4. Hi HuskerDan,

It looks to me like the "Caribbean Sail to Christmas and Honeymoon Coves" has the same itinerary as New Horizon. Unfortunately the Celebrity web site isn't allowing me to pull it up directly right now, but as I recall it is 6.5 hours and they have a number of sloops & catamarans that they contract with depending on the number of passengers.

At $99 it is no more expensive than New Horizon's cash price ($75) plus cab fare and less than their non-cash price ($96) plus can fare. No transportation worries either.

Shared in good will despite 1995.... :-)

LOL! Ah yes, I remember that game well! :)

Thanks. I thought that was the one but wasn't sure. Looks like we will book that excursion. I rarely book cruise excursions but for peace of mind, I think it is worth it this time. We are on vacation after all and want to relax :)

  5. Update: Celebrity has added an excursion with precisely the same itinerary aboard a sloop for $99. We'll likely use that since it eliminates $40+tip of cab fare, any worry of cancellation issues if our cruise is late, etc., and any worry of missing the ship.

I've been surprised to find the ship's excursions on a variety of options are very close in price to the local independent operators I can find online.

Hi Theologator. We are on the Reflection the week after you. What excursion is it/what is the name and/or excursion number that you are referencing here as we would be interested in taking it instead of taking the risk of going with New Horizon.

    Thanks!

  6. caribill, can we replace the tour in Fairbanks with another tour or do we have to go on the tours that are a part of this package? We probably would enjoy the Gold Dredge tour but just wanted to know if we are allowed to choose a different tour if we want? I think I read that we could go with a different tour than the TWT and if the tour we choose is more expensive, the cost would be added to the total cost of the cruise (would need to call Princess in advance of the cruise to make the change). Maybe this is true of the tour in Fairbanks as well?

    Thanks in advance.

  7. Wonderful review and I just booked this exact tour for Sept 2014 on the Island Princess! This review will provide me with excellent information on what to expect. We considered doing a DIY but we felt that for our first land tour, we would be more comfortable having a Princess tour guide get us through our first land tour. After this, I am confident we would be comfortable setting up our own land tour. This will be our 3rd trip to Alaska and we have gone in June and July so decided to try the end of the season this time.

Thanks, caribill, for this thorough review!

  8. For anyone that has gone with Princess to the Mexican Riviera, do you know if we must take the excursion to Las Caletas with Princess or can we book privately with another company? We really want to do this in Puerto Vallarta and as is usually the case, it is less expensive to go through a private company rather than through the cruise line.

I have read on the ports of call forum for Mexican Riviera that some cruise lines have contracts for this tour and you are not allowed to book it except through the cruise line.

    Thanks for your help!
