We are visiting Belize on our November 25th cruise on the Magic. We are scheduled to do the Snorkling Wonders of the Barrier Reef. That one has you picked up by boat directly from the ship instead of tendering in to the port. I think the boat ride is 30 minutes. So we don’t have to do the ship tender and then get on a bus.

We we did the Belize City Tour and Altun Ha Mayan Ruins on a cruise to Belize a few years backAfter tendering over we got on the bus tour and then went out to the ruins. It was a long time in the bus but the ruins are amazing. I saw the have one that does a river boat tour instead of a bus tour. That one might be interesting but I would imagine you are still going to have to spend some time on a bus. Most of those attractions are on the opposite side of the island from the cruise port.

There just doesn’t seem to be as many excursions to choose from in Belize this time. ☹️

Have a a great time in Belize and on the rest of your cruise!!

Thanks for sharing...did you book your excursion through carnival?

My family and I went to Belize 2 years ago, and we did the Bacab Eco Horseback riding excrusion.  We took a bus ride to the stable/pool area and I don't remember it being as long of a ride as the website says it is (the information on the Carnival site says it is a 40 min ride).  The tour guide on the bus was well informed, gave us a great idea of the area, and had us laughing the whole way there.  We had a wonderful time on this excursion and I would recommend it. The pool area and lunch was better than I had expected it would be too. We decided to do this excursion because there weren't other things to really do close to the peir.

    I hope this helps.

This helps a lot... Thank you

Are you only in port for a very short time, is why you want to stay so close to the port? Just curious.

In Belize, we use King David Castillo (AlTournative Belize Services) and he's great. He can customize whatever you want to do. When we went back in May, we went to the Community Baboon Sanctuary and went into the jungle and fed the wild howler monkey. They would come down from the trees and eat fruit from our hands. My kids LOVED it. It was an AMAZING experience to see the animals out in their natural rather than some zoo or in cages.

From there we went to Altun Ha ruins which was a neat thing to see.

From there we stopped by a local school to donate school supplies to them. We got to talk to the kids/teachers and just watch their way of things. It was really fun.

After that we went to lunch, then did a tour of Belize and did some shopping before heading back to port. We were only in Belize from 8a-5p and we got back to the terminal by 3pm with PLENTY of time to spare.

We’re in port from 8-5 so we really wanted to do something fun. Thanks for the suggestion...I will look them up

  4. I would really like to do an excursion when we get to Belize but all of the reviews I have read say that it’s a long ride to all the excursions...like an hour or more. Are there any close to port or no more than maybe 15-20 minutes from the port?

  5. Thanks for the feedback everyone...we decided to take the offer and go with the Havana Interior. Just for the experience and too see what all the excitement is about. This will be our first time being in an interior cabin but hopefully the Havana extras will offset the fact we won’t have a balcony. Either way I’m excited.

Both rooms appear to be 185 sq ft. Do you need/prefer daylight? How often you plan to use your balcony? Were you going to have breakfast/coffee there? Were you planning to read/relax there? The only perk for Havana I see with the interior is use of the Havana pool until 5pm.

    Hi Jenny,

No preference for the daylight or not. We use the balcony mostly in the mornings. I was just wondering if the Havana area was as “amazing” as rep said. She said many people would choose to upgrade and that they get a lot of request for that area.

  7. Hello everyone,

We are booked on the Vista in April. Originally wanted to stay in a Havana Cabin (Balcony) but they were sold out so we got a regular balcony cabin. Just got offered a Havana Interior cabin. Never stayed in an Interior cabin before but it would like to experience the Havana area. Is it worth giving up the balcony?

  8. This is a great topic to address! My 13 yr old son fainted during the muster drill as well. He’s never had any major health issues and never fainted before. My mom also had to go in due to the heat. It was a very scary experience. This was on the Carnival Valor this past June. There has to be a change in the process before something drastic happens to a passenger.

  9. +1 for waiting to book a 20th Anniversary cruise in Sept 2020! I kept wondering why I couldnt complete the booking until I saw this thread. Thanks for all of the replies explaining the timetable. Guess Ill have to wait a bit longer.

It will be our 18th Anniversary in Sept 2020 and we’re waiting to book the Vista! We have already booked our cruise for Sept 2019 on the Dream! Hopefully the schedule will be out sooner than later.

  10. I've seen other cruise ships at sea a few times during my cruises. Here are a couple shots from our most recent Alaskan cruise. Both of these shots are not zoomed in so you can get an idea of the distance between our ship and theirs. On both of these, I was standing at the rail on our aft-wrap balcony (you can see the railing in both photos).

This is a Princess cruise ship that we passed on our starboard side during our last sea day. We were heading back to Seattle and they were heading up into the Inner Passage of Alaska.

Here's Carnival Splendor passing us on the port side as we both sailed inside Glacier Bay in Alaska. This was the closest that I have ever seen two cruise ships pass each other, however we were both going very slow and the bay is fairly narrow.

Nice pics! Did they announce it on the ship that there were other ships passing?

  11. Travel out of New Orleans and you will pass within approximately150-200 feet of each other on Mississippi river. We were on the Dream returning and passed by the Triumph departing. It was about midnight and we had just entered the Mississippi. Both ships were lit up. Quite a sight.

Wow..That’s good to know! Thanks! I just have to figure out what ship to sail since the Dream is coming to Galveston
