Today's storage find... A souvenir hat from my all time favorite restaurant, Willie's Weenie Wagon down in Brunswick GA... I used to live down there in '88-'89, and again for awhile in '93... It's the epitome of a hole in the wall, but they have the greatest burger, and even better, their grilled pork chop sandwich... It comes with mustard and grilled onions, and is something I've never been able to duplicate... They also have the best sweet tea ever, as well. I was this close to driving down there over the holiday weekend, but I didn't know what the hotel or beach situation was down there. Pretty soon, I will be making a trip down, and you'll get to see it for yourself.

I used to have a buddy here who's dad lived on St Simons Island. Whenever he would go visit, I would get him to bring me back two pork chop sandwiches. I didn't even care that they'd been sitting in the car for 4 1/2 hours...

Last time I was there was in 2010, following my very first cruise ever, on the Carnival Fascination out of Jacksonville. Even though I hadn't been there in years, they all remembered me. They used to call me "Mr Sid" pork chop sandwich, extra grilled onions... Ok, I'm hungry now......

We randomly ate in there around 2011 or 2012 on the way in to St. Simons from the airport. My inlaws rented a beach house in St. Simons island because they were considering retiring there and wanted to try it out. I believe that town is still one of my favorite places I've ever been.

Was it Paula Dean with the restaurants there? We went some place that was owned and run by a celeb chef but I'm maybe misremembering. I know she's been #canceled but I still use her lasagna recipe.

Airlines are not overcoming this problem, any more than most businesses.  Sure a store says "stay 6 feet apart", but how often do you see people crowding?  I just flew last weekend from Texas to Maine.  First flight, a small commuter jet had about 10 people on it, so keeping distance was no problem.  Second flight was 737 or 757, and they didn't sell center seats, so you had some distance, but the person in front/back were less than 2 feet away.  Third flight was an Embraer regional jet, and had 44 of 49 seats full.  So, social distancing depends on demand for the flight.  Further, each flight had an announcement that face coverings were required on the plane, and they would give out masks as required, yet several people on each flight did not have or use face coverings of any type, they never mentioned to the crew that they had a medical condition that precluded a mask, nor did the crew even approach them regarding masks.

the maskless folks who weren't hassled by the airline were probably air marshals, my hubby works gov't adjacent and in DC a ton and a lot of the fed gov't agencies, esp law enforcement, military, legal etc have still left it optional for their employees and most are maskless he says.

I'm interested in how casinos will do it, that will be a good indicator of what cruising would look like since it is entertainment/lots have hotels. So far a lot seem to be requiring masks.

  3. So as an update (as if anyone cares) every time we drove through Atlanta, Houston's was not open. We did the drive through at The Varsity just because I've always wanted to try it - even though I know Sid isn't a fan. It wasn't bad but it seems like we probably missed out on the atmosphere. It reminded me of some of those coney dog shops they have around Detroit and Toledo from what I could tell. Maybe that isn't accurate but that's what it seemed like to me.

Craziest thing ever happened on I-75 though. It was night and we had just entered Turner County, Georgia (which I always notice because of Ted Turner) and were going about 85-90 in the fast lane when all of a sudden, my husband screams, brakes and changes lanes. He said (and my son confirmed) that there was a man pushing a bike slowly in the fast lane on the highway.

We're not really call the cops people but we called the Highway patrol to try to get his guy help. We've scoured the news since and haven't seen any reports of accidents so hoping it all worked itself out.

We may drive back down to Clearwater again in July or August since cruising looks like it is off the table for awhile. I am going to be stuck with so much OBC and cruise credit so I'm really questioning our decision to book many "great deals".

Princess has indoor enclosed smoking rooms with nice seating and ocean views.  Somewhat like the old smoking lounges at the airports, but a lot nicer.

Before all of this started, I told myself I'd start taking more princess cruises, I am really hoping they survive this.

Christine Duffy has had a pretty storied career from humble beginnings to becoming President of CCL.  Prior to that she was president of CLIA, the primary organization that supports the entire industry.  There is nothing wrong with her leadership, the poster has posted and maligned much, everybody is on the cross hairs.  Here is a link you can research more and see for yourself.

How did she go from gov't medical related to cruise industry jimbo? That doesn't seem like it gels.

but you forget that most non-smokers (majority) dont want more smoking areas. so why upset the majority during a time in which their customer base might be shrinking.

social distancing. If smokers can't congregate in the casino due to new rules, where will they go?

    • Lung cancer is the leading cancer killer in both men and women in the U.S. In 1987, it surpassed breast cancer to become the leading cause of cancer deaths in women.1
    • An estimated 154,050 Americans are expected to die from lung cancer in 2018, accounting for approximately 25 percent of all cancer deaths.2
    • The number of deaths caused by lung cancer peaked at 159,292 in 2005 and has since decreased by 6.5 percent to 148,945 in 2016.1
    • The age-adjusted death rate for lung cancer is higher for men (46.7 per 100,000 persons) than for women (31.9 per 100,000 persons). It is similar for blacks (40.0 per 100,000 persons) and whites (39.2 per 100,000 persons) overall. However, black men have a far higher age-adjusted lung cancer death rate than white men, while black and white women have similar rates.1

pal I'm not saying it's 100% good for you but to say it's 100% bad just kills all credibility.

I heard like only 4% of known cases are smokers. Thats astonishing!

I had not seen this stat until you just posted but just saw it in several places as 5%. I know smoking maybe isn't good for everything but it has always blown my mind how no one ever talks about it when it does have a health benefit.

    1) weight loss

    2) reduced incidence of allergies

    3) better mental health

    4) better pharmacological uptake of certain drugs

    5) increased cognitive performance

    6) lower chance of contracting the covid flu

and people wonder why some of us question health authorities

If anything they will BAN smoking, NOT increase smoking areas. There will be ZERO chances they will increase places to smoke.

why the hell would they ban smoking in reaction to this? It's been shown that smokers are 4x less prone to this flu than the general public. They don't know if it is the nicotine or something else in the cigarette but they've already been giving patients nicotine patches in many hospitals around the world.

  10. My wild son owned a strip club for a few years shortly after turning 18, he didn't tell us about it until a few years after he sold but we always wondered about some of the girls he'd vacation with or how he was affording 3 weeks of spring break. Truthfully we just assumed he was selling pot or something.

Anyways, some of the stories he's told about some of the tricks of the trade are hilarious, disgusting, enlightening. I guess a lot of girls get cosmetic procedures to remove hair/bleach that area. The ladies also had throw down fights because they used expensive face scrub on their booties to prevent acne and they were constantly stealing it from each other. 🤣 What a world. By the grace of God, he's engaged to a doctor now, she's a dermatology resident ironically.

  11. hopefully they add some more indoor smoking areas, if they are trying to keep people in the casino from being to crammed. Seems like a no-brainer and I've been saying it for years, maybe this will be a positive that comes from this damn flu stuff.

I sent her an email last night but she has said she doesn't check her email regularly. She did post on FB 13 hours ago (sorry Deedle, this feels like I stalked you (!), but was just trying to lower the Tribe's concern). I think she is fine, probably just stuff going on...

I wonder if she has bad wifi, we're in florida right now and everyone is complaining that there's some type of state wide change they did to the system. It took about 15 minutes to load this page this morning

This is the kind of crap that's lurking around in my storage... Mint condition with original box and all paperwork...

PEople who work outside of the "regular" economy pay a premium for those because they don't have all the tracking capabilities and wifi spy stuff. There's some phones from in Europe (where they have worse spying if you can believe that) which will go for thousands. I'm not an expert on the models which are worth a lot but I do know that nokias are prized because many people used to own them so they don't have to relearn how to use

It's a little after 2:30, and I just cracked my first beer... It's rainy and cool here today, so I don't have plans to go walking or anything... Right as I was about to sit down, the phone rang... Luckily, I was able to get to it in time, as it seems that my car warranty is about to expire. It's a great thing they reached me, so I went ahead and purchased their most expensive plan...

The bastards wouldn't even give me coverage on my 1988 geo metro. I accused them of being some type of scam and they hung up. I'm a sucker for warranties, sell me something !

The navy base where I live had a gate runner this morning. He crashed his car into the barrier they deployed and killed himself. I'm wondering what made him take himself out like that. Death by cop turned into death by barrier?

corona virus is leading to higher suicides we know that. They interviewed the county sheriff next to us and he said they went from maybe 1 suicide per week to 5-6 per day.

Random question (not really, but I'll explain later), on a scale of 1 to 100, where would you rate your happiness in life? And what would your goal be?

100.5 currently on a nice vacation to our friend's condo off Clearwater Beach. Been seeing dolphins and eating delicious food. My only complaint is the casinos were supposed to be open when we booked this but looks like that won't be until next week. Dog Track should be open on Friday though so I'll check that out.

I'd be at a 200 if I'd bought some stocks I had feelings about (chipotle, amazon and tesla) when they were at lows and not missed as many concerts for work. I'm still kicking myself for not seeing Tom Petty's last show or going with my son to see his favorite band which grew on me call Brand New right before they disbanded. We were randomly in Baltimore for a cruise and were too tired from the drive and skipped. A few days later, the band broke up.
