  1. I read somewhere that ships offer a package of wine by the bottle for dinner. I think I read that it is offered at embarkation. Does this still happen and does it happen on the Sun? We are on the 14-day Santiago to Buenos Aires in January. The full drink package is not worth it but we do enjoy wine with supper. It would be good to know of this option ahead of time.

  2. We have been on two SA cruises and seen lots of penguins. In my opinion, the best spot is in the Falkland Islands at Volunteer point to see King Penguins; but I doubt your cruise goes there. We have been to Puerto Madryn twice and Punta Tombo was the best from that port. On our most recent stop at Punta Arenas, I just loved our visit to Magdalena Island. It was the most penguins we have seen on any of our excursions, plus you are walking with them on the paths. You can see lots of photos of our visits on our cruise review website that is linked to in my signature.

Make sure you book more than one penguin excursion, since some ports can be skipped and sometimes the excursions can't get to where the penguins are. As far as Ushuaia goes, I don't recall reading about anyone getting off a boat there to walk in the penguin grounds.

Thanks for your reply. We are going to the Falklands but have read that Stanley may be skipped if the wind is up and the ship can't get in. The King penguins are what interest us but it is a short excursion for a high cost. It doesn't appear to have the value that the others have. Punta Arenas may end up being our choice.

  3. Hi,

We are booked on the Jan. 19 Santiago to Buenos Aires cruise. In looking at excursions we are wondering which penguin one to choose.

We were wondering if the excursion provided by NCL in Ushuaia, Argentina actually gives you the opportunity to get off the boat. Does the boat only cruise around? Do all pictures have to be taken from the boat?

We really want the chance to walk around.

    Any help is appreciated.
