One would think they would be in a nice port city over night--that way one could go out for the evening and still be back on the ship (if you want)--see fireworks.  But they always seen to be out at sea at midnight.

we spent New Year's eve 2 years ago in Shanghai and were in port over night.

  2. out flights to Hong Kong in February got changed by the airline. Got an email from Korean Air to that affect. Had booked through Regent and the flights we have are all either Delta or Delta code share operated by Korean air. It took

5 days for the Delta website to show the change, I was really confused in the meantime. I contacted my TA to check with Regent and Regent still had the original flights. Upon further prodding they said there might be changes. It took 3 more days for them to get confirmation, a total of 7 days from my initial email and show the new flights on the web site In the meanwhile on the Regent web site it looked like we were ending our trip in Seoul. I don't know when we would have been notified if I had not gotten the email but it sure was confusing. It sounds a lot like the posters situation, except that I was notified by Korean Air (in an email in Korean, with a link to a translation). At one point I thought it was a scam mail except that they had all our other flights listed correctly.

  3. Lots of questions.  Even though you dock at 7 frequently disembarkation doesn't start right away. If your questioning so as to book a flight wait until at least noon. regent usually docks at terminal J which is smaller than the ones the large ships dock at. there is still a bit of walking  but I've seen plenty of people in wheel chairs being assisted getting on and off the ship as well as through the terminal. the elevators don't get very crowded but if you want to get to your cabin directly wait until 1pm to board, not noon. we board early and then have lunch in La Veranda. Your mom can use the ship phone to call you on your cell. If you have wifi calling on your phone use that instead of the cell service. We use to use walky talkies before cell phones but that might be too complicated for her. You do go through customs in Miami. I can't remember if there is global entry there (I get confused with Ft Lauderdale where there is) but the process is usually not too slow as I recall.

Would someone please let me know if there are outlets available bedside, specifically 110v wall outlet?

    Thanks,

    Jamie

as I recall there are outlets bedside but they are European. I use them to charge my cell phone, using it as a bedside clock and alarm. I use the European 2 prong adapter. The phones will charge on either 110 or 220 ( as will most current electronics like ipads and laptops).

  5. The last cruise I did this for, leaving March 1, only had the pdf available to get online for 2 cities. My TA was able to get the entire list a few days before we could book. The excursions for this cruise was all screwed up and we couldn't book anything at the time it was to open, some were available several hours later, and others not for days.

  6. we did a similar cruise several years ago but ended in chile. Made it to the Falklands and cruised the Antarctic peninsula. didn't go ashore in Antarctica but just cruising by was fabulous. We spent the day by Montevideo waiting for the wind to shift so we could get into the harbor as the ship needed to get supplies so we couldn't skip it. Just got to get off and walk around a bit.

Hi There . We have been on many Royal cruises and 1 Azamara and are now thinking we could splash out for Regent and are comparing.. What worries us are: will we never get more than one night in the speciality restaurants on a long 25 day South america cruise in 2021 (Navigator and Mariner go out of Miami) ? Did you feel  you lost out  because you paid the same fare as someone who got the business class free when you did not need to use it? (We sort of thought we would)You seemed the one to ask on this front ? Did you feel it was a class system with the higher priced suite occupants getting a preference over others?   Did you like the shows and musical experience? Could you get speciality restaurant food in the Compass Rose (like you can with some entrees at Royal? Sorry for the barrage. Its so expensive we want to be sure 🙂 Happy Holidays too!

you can book extra specialty restaurants once on board It is very easy to do so and get several on a long cruise. If you don't need the air transportation they give you a credit so you pay less than someone who got "free" air. compass rose usually has a dish or two from the specialty restaurants and my understanding is you can get pretty much anything if you ask in advance. I have never been able to tell who is in a higher price suite by the treatment they get. Some long time travellers seem to know the staff and might get a little special treatment however. I like the shows and music in general but this is a personal thing.

I know the question was directed at someone else but thought I could share my experiences.

So if you want more then one on a long cruise (but not Grand Voyage) what do you do and is it even possible ? Thanks!

If it is more than one segment, even if not a grand voyage, you get one reservation per restaurant per segment. otherwise you book the extra dinner reservations on the ship when you get there.
