  1. I have been looking at a company called Sail Croatia who run small ship cruises along the coast of Croatia. Other than a number of excellent reviews on Trip Advisor, I have not been able to find out much about them if anyone has any experience with this company, I would love to hear your impressions.

    Thanks so much!

Very happy to do so. We went through a UK travel company that had booked the whole boat, so it was all UK passengers. I guess if you booked direct with Katarina you could have a ‘mixed bag’ of nationalities on board.

    ...

Hope that’s helpful, please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Thanks so much!  Sounds fantastic.  We've just started looking at this so may have questions later on.  My wife and I stopped at a few places in Croatia on a sailing cruise last summer and loved it.  I started looking at Sail Croatia (which seems pretty similar) and then stumbled upon Katrina, but it is difficult finding out much about either one so your comments are very useful.  I appreciate it.

No, but I have cruised with the Croatian small boat company Katarina  Cruises. Very small bats (60 max passengers). We loved it, but very different from the usual types of cruise.

I wonder if you could share anything about your experience on Katarina?  I have been looking at their cruises, but it is very hard to find any information about them.  Thanks so much.

I received a D7500 for Christmas two years ago & could not justify getting a new camera. This one takes great pictures, has video.  I'm still trying to figure out all the bells & whistles on this one. Would I take better pictures with a new format??? I'm a picture taker not a photographer. I'm very happy with what I have. I'll save my money and take a cruise instead & shot pictures for my memories with what I have.

If you are very happy with it, then that;s all that counts.

I don't think this means that every DSLR option on the market will just go "poof" and disappear.

I don’t know. I have been looking for something to replace by current Nikon 5300 and there seem to be very few options out there without moving to a full frame model.

For some of us the opportunity of shooting outside our usual locations and wanting to bring back outstanding images is  a major part of the enjoyment of the trip…I suspect I'm not the only one, but having been a keen photographer for more than 50 years I do feel rather naked when out and about without one of my cameras in my hand.

Well said. I couldn’t agree more.

Have you ever been on a Clipper  cruise before.  We are doing our 1st Star Flyer cruise but in the Greek Islands.  If you  have done a Clipper Cruise before, do you have any thoughts you can pass on about the ship.

    DON

No, this is our first Star Clipper cruise and we’re very excited. Only been waiting for four years for this to happen!  Happy travels.

  9. Ok, I did a little research and found a Washington Post article (dated 7/13/21) which said the following:

The ban applies to ships of more than 25,000 tons. The massive cruise ships that have sailed into Venice’s harbor can be nearly four times that weight.

According the the StarClipper website, the Star Flyer is 2,298 tons, so we should be fine.

Are the outlets 110 or 220.  The reason I ask is that I just got off a ship where all of the outlets were 220.  Didn't bother me but some people has problems w some of their stuff.  One lady blew up her hair drier.

    DON

Most electronic equipment (but not hair dryers or anything else that generates heat) will run on either 110 or 220.

I have been in the "How many days until your next cruise" topic and I was surprised to see some people counting down from hundreds of days. I mean HUNDREDS of days.

We’ve been counting down probably close to a THOUSAND days, but a lot of that is due to the fact that we rescheduled three times due to COVID. Finally down to sixty! Traveling from Virginia to Venice for embarkation.

I've been trying to figure out what the deal is with the "Skip the Line" tickets for the Acropolis for a bit here and I feel like I'm spinning my wheels.

Here is another forum post which contains some useful information.  I am in the same boat as you, so I have no idea which information in there is correct.

  13. Five weeks, wow, that’s a cruise—particularly compared to the paltry ten day cruise we have planned. Sounds delightful.

Sorry, can’t help you with your question. I was wondering the same and searched this forum. One post said the prices were high, another one said they were very reasonable, so who knows?

    Anyway, happy sailing!

Sail went great!  A few ports in the itinerary changed but, overall, a very nice experience.  We had about 85 guests on board.  Everyone wore masks inside - a few wore masks outside.

We are booked on the same (or similar) cruise for this October (having postponed two previous reservations!).  Any impressions about your cruise or the ports would be more than welcomed.  We are still a bit worried about COVID, but keeping our fingers crossed.

    Thanks.
