  1. i guess the weight problem is dual - luggage and self!! I also am older as in 74 yrs old. I am going to give the wetsuit a 'test' in the pool and see how i like or dislike it. i am sure the others in the pool will think i am some kind of a nut with the thing on but it might save me from hauling it across the world!!

  2. i have never used a wetsuit but i now have one to take on our Galapagos tour but i am not sure of how it works or if it fits properly!. The legs are a bit long as are the arms and the torso is a bit baggy. Will this be adverse fitting if I try to use it? There is also a full body underliner with the suit. I am a good swimmer but I know next to nothing about wetsuits and the darn thing is HEAVY!! If i can't wear properly, I would just as soon leave it at home! Also as i have a hard time walking on uneven surfaces due to a past ankle injury, will I have trouble getting out of the water?

  3. I understand and also have read that many of the meals on the Galapagos cruises are seafood which is logical being that you are at sea. However, I am not a fan of seafood at all!! would there be any alternatives other than vegetarian? are meats offered and are they tasty?

  4. "CruiseCritic has been good enough to set up a Silverseas Roll Call."

Fine - tried to use it - couldn't or did something wrong.

And YES i most definitely feel SS should have taken out the whole ship out of commission for a total rehab, trained the staff, and THEN released to the public. Sure would have gotten some GREAT publicity instead of what we see and hear now. I feel somewhat 'used' to get a 30 yr old stateroom with holes in wall from SS and be charged the same as those smarter than I who booked the cruise NEXT year. This leaves a negative taste in a lot of mouths. I just hope our son and daughter love it as we have raved about SS for years, and they are at the age that this cruising line would be great for them. If they don't see the difference between this and mass media sailing, i would doubt they would follow up on it.

To 5Waldos: maybe u could pack up your other excursion stuff before the Galapagos trip and ship/send back to your home. I have done that in Europe a # of times and it has worked well.

I hope previous passengers are released from their 'captivity' soon to tell the world of their experiences!!

  5. Thank you! This is long awaited. We will be going the first part of February have been a little concerned. For awhile I wondered if the past passengers were still at sea or did get back!! I too will be disappointed in the staterooms not being up to snuff - staterooms are big with me! But if the meals are decent and the rest of the tour good that will be ok.. Thanks again for taking the time.

  6. The exterior photo looks like it might be the SG but certainly not the interior shots. Much larger and more elegant than the photos i have seen. Interesting though, sure wish someone would place some photos on this site so we could see what it is all like in

    'real life'.

  7. Recently we were on a 3 day on the DREAM and ate in both the specialty restaurants. Both were excellent but interesting that PALO only had maybe half the people as REMY. I was surprised because 2 years ago it was the opposite. I also feel that PALO and its menu need a bit of tweaking. DISNEY has so many repeat cruisers they need to keep up to date a bit more. Our meal/service at REMY was top shelf! Couldn't have been better in anyway. Palo was - good but nothing special anymore. At REMY they even invited us back from 2 yrs ago and sat us at the same table! They must keep some kind of 'list' of previous guests and then acknowledge your return. Very special I must say!
  8. I guess i misinterpreted. we are going Feb 1 and before that to Machu Picchu. I promise we won't threaten Dior in anyway!. I will be there (with my crocs) and my son and daughter and who knows what they will have. Looking forward to this excursion a lot.

  9. to 5Waldos: I think we are going the week before you so I will gladly break in "the ladies on "what not to wear" folks with my comfortable but probably not acceptable wardrobe.

Have decided - it is crocs period. I hate traveling with multiple shoes - they take up too much space.

  10. i have Keens (which i find very uncomfortable) and water socks. I debated about crocs (another post said the Naturalist wore them) but i have strong doubts about hiking in them. still now sure what to take

  11. Serenity Bay is perfect for the two of you. Adult only (over age 18) beautiful beach, bar, picnic area for lunch. Grilled fish and steaks etc. for lunch. the larger family beach will be jammed with families and loads of kids. They also have a separate eating area, a bone 'dig

for the smaller kids and many other distractions. Actually, you would probably enjoy both so why not split your time? Plus they have two neat water slides. I am 74 and my daughter is 49 and we both love the slides.

  12. to Howardr: can u expand a bit on the precruise Machu Picchu tour as we are signed up for it also. as our flight doesn't arrive until 1PAM we added a day in Lima to relax a bit before the tour. is walking going to be difficult? i have ankle issues and it is difficult for me at times. do they provide a guide early AM to see the sunrise over the ruins?

  13. The menu takes advantage of two chefs as in the DCL info:

"A gourmet menu created by Chef Arnaud Lallement from l'Assiette Champenoise—a Michelin 2-star restaurant just outside Reims, France—and Chef Scott Hunnel from award-winning Victoria & Albert's at Walt Disney World Resort "

I was surprised to read that Remys was a pre-prepared menu. Where did you get that info? We were on the cruise twice when Scott Hunnel was on board and cooking . Why would they have needed him to be present if the food only needed to be heated?

Personally I don't think you can go wrong with either venue.
