I'm not sure Viking would be transporting RCI passengers, but RCI probably offers a bus of their own, for a fee.

Other than a cruise line bus, your options are a private transfer, train, or bus.  Private transfers are the easiest but also the most expensive option.

Train requires you to be able to deal with your own luggage on and off the train (and there will be a change of trains en route, there are no direct trains between Venice and Ravenna).  Bus is slow (about three hours) but gets you there inexpensively (as low as 9 euro on Flixbus).

Both the train and bus options also require you to get from downtown Ravenna to the port, about eight miles.  Again, RCI may offer a shuttle bus from the train station to the port, or there is a public bus or taxis.

Yes RCI provides a shuttle bus for a fee from either Venice airport or from somewhere in the city to the port of Ravenna. This is the safest method of transportation as you will be dropped off directly at the ship. I believe there is also a shuttle to the port from Ravenna station for those using the train from Venice.

Good to know, thank you! What about when leaving the ship to return to Venice Airport? Are you given details on what time to depart the ship and where to meet your shuttle?

Toward the end of your cruise you will receive paperwork inviting you to submit your airline departure times. You will then be allocated a shuttle time from Ravenna in order to link with your flight from Venice. The shuttles started from 7am and went through till about 10:30am. There appeared to be lots of buses in use and they all left from right outside the cruise dock and arrived at Venice airport approx two hours later. There were also shuttles going in to the city of Venice for those not requiring the airport.

Can anyone who’s walked down instead of taking the cable car advise how long it took them? On the roll call for our cruise next year someone posted it took them 2-3 hours! If that’s accurate a one hour wait for the cable car doesn’t seem so bad…

We are in our 60s and it took us approx 40 minutes. Just take your time and enjoy the view.

Does anyone know what type of payment they accept for the boat ride to the Oia port? Are CC's taken or is it cash only?

Both cash or credit cards are acceptable. Seem to recall 30 euros per head which includes the shuttle bus back to Fira.

we did ship excursion (celebrity) to beach with drinks and lunch included. the coldest water I've ever been in and this was early July. someone said the ocean dropped way off just beyond beach. I would guess 20% of the people really got in. Once you got in and was there a bit is was ok but if you got out you didn't go back.

You can get to most beaches on a public bus for a couple of Euros. The bus terminal is an easy walk from the tender dock and is just the other side of the windmills. All the beaches have a great selection of tavernas for eating and drinking virtually right on the sand.

Yes we have. We don't know what they are yet but RCI fit the transfers to the flights.

We have just returned from B2B cruises from Ravenna on RCI. There were plenty of shuttle buses to Ravenna from Venice airport departing at approx 45 minute intervals. Just look for the RCI ground staff at arrivals.

Depending on when you are going..........the local currency would be Euros. They are in the process of converting.

We were in Dubrovnik mid September and the kronar was the local currency. Euros were occasionally accepted but tourist attractions and the local buses would only accept kronar. Many establishments displayed signs stating euros not accepted. There were however plenty of currency exchanges and ATMs.

Some Vaccinated Passengers also, I'm on 13niter in 5wks. "Passengers cruising on cruises under 9 days don’t need to take Covid tests before boarding."

I am fully vaccinated and on a 7 night Mediterranean and a negative test is still required at check in. This appears to be a requirement for cruises visiting Greece. Different rules for different departure ports.

The two questions in the app are about vax status and one would take a huge gamble traveling without vax card when claiming to be vaxed.

Didn't mean proof of vaccination documents were unnecessary just meant uploading from the ap was now considered unnecessary by RCCL. I have previously stated we would be travelling with vax docs and able to produce them at any time.

As mentioned, there’s no longer an ability to upload any COVID related documents. There are just two COVID related questions in the app to answer, which may or may not be confirmed at pier check in.

I suspect this has happened because RCCL is allowing unvaccinated passengers as from 5 September.

This makes proof of vaccination documents unnecessary and therefore no ability to upload from the ap. We will still be travelling with proof of vaccination documents both in digital and hard copy just in case we are requested to confirm our status.

Sometimes the staff on Princess allow bottles of wine to be brought on at intermediate ports of call, and other times they don't. That's why I suggested that the person should ask on board.

At Australian ports we have always found Princess allow us to bring bottles on board and pay the corkage fee. We prefer to buy 2/3 bottles each port rather than bring on a large quantity at embarkation. Always happy to pay the corkage price and consider ourselves miles in front compared to buying in the dining room at Princess prices. Hopefully we can do the same for our upcoming NZ cruise.

We are bokked on the RCL shuttle from marco polo airport to ravenna. We fly in on sunday 14th from manchester, then shuttle straight to the port. Have a return shuttle booked for the following sunday. Wil be a long bus ride just gooe they stop or have toilets on board esp travelling with children. 🤣

I assume you are going in August. Can you recall how much you paid for the RCL shuttle? Did you have a range of departure times to choose from? I assume you can book the shuttle through your travel agent or do it yourself with RCL online.

  13. We are booked on Coral Princess to NZ departing Brisbane on 5 December 2022. After 3 sea days we arrive at Fiordland National Park on Day 5 on 9 December.

I have noticed that Radiance of the Seas departs Sydney for NZ on 6 December 2022. After 2 sea days they also arrive at Fiordland National Park on Day 4 on 9 December. I was wondering what the procedure is for 2 ships arriving on the same day. I doubt whether the NZ authorities would allow both ships in the same Sound together on the same day. Perhaps they alternate the 2 ships between the 3 Sounds avoiding any crossovers.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

No way! This would be the best time to visit Thailand. It is safer than any major city in the US. The numbers are falling fast and the vaccinations are ramping up quickly. The Thai's are working hard to make sure the country can open quickly and safely.

Can you imaging walking down Patong beach with only a few dozen people on the beach vs thousands pre-pandemic? True paradise there right now. My family is in Thailand and I can not wait to return in January. I have been told that the natural beauty of the country, mostly the beach tourist areas, has rebounded back to true paradise. Without all the tourists trashing the waters and the beaches, it is like 30-40 years ago.

Take advantage of the opportunity. There may never be a greater time to visit these beautiful parts of the world.

Without all the tourists "trashing the waters and beaches" you will also find boarded up restaurants, bars, hotels, travel agents and shops that are no longer viable to trade. Not to mention taxi and tuk tuk drivers and all other small business owners that have abandoned the beach tourist areas. You need mass tourism to return so these people can return to making a living.

As I said in posts yesterday, I completed the online form to request the replacement cruise for next year. This morning, I had a phone call from a Princess Cruise Holiday Planner about the replacement cruise which she booked us on, (same cabin) and then sent me the booking confirmation which was not the amount of the cancelled cruise or the same promotions. It was the cost of the cruise as if we were making a new booking and the promotion was less than this year's. I have replied to her asking that it be fixed. I wonder how long it will take to do so.

Maybe you have just received an initial confirmation of your re booked cruise. I would hope that when the dust settles you will receive further advice that reflects your price freeze and promotions and benefits.

We had a Princess cruise to NZ booked for 18/11. The suggested replacement cruise is 4/11/22. We would prefer the same cruise 1/12/22.

Has everyone just accepted the proposed Princess date or had any success negotiating a different date?

I would think Princess would be very firm on the date of the proposed replacement cruise. The only way you  could get an alternate date would be to use the FCC offered and then pay the full price of the cruise of your choice. Already people have indicated the increased costs are prohibitive. We are accepting the replacement cruise offered at a saving of $2150.

For those of us familiar with the decades old controversy regarding cruise ships in Venice, what has been happening in Italy is not a surprise.  Since we are talking about Italy,  the way this all plays out is going to be fraught with uncertainty until it happens. We have heard that ship over 95,000 tons will be banned and we have also heard that the limit will be 40,000 tons.  But the authorities have not even dealt with the issue of how to move thousands of cruise ship passengers between the commercial port at Marghera and Venice. For ships using Ravenna, I do feel sorry for the passengers as that is not a good solution to visit Venice.  My advice to cruisers who want to visit Venice is to plan a pre or post cruise stay in Italy and go to Venice for a few days.   As to the Brilliance of the Seas, we are talking about a ship that can hold about 2500 passengers. With COVID restrictions perhaps that will be reduced to 1800 (this is just my guess) which means they would need about 35 buses to move all those souls between Ravenna and Venice.   And the only place that buses can go within Venice is the Piazale Roma which is not well equipped to handle 35 tour buses.   Yes, it can be done but it will not be pretty,

    Hank

Royal Caribbean have already advised that shuttle buses from Venice to the port of Ravenna will only depart and return from Venice airport.

Is there a Crooner's on Majestic Princess? If so...where is it located ? I couldn't find it on the deck plans . Thanks in advance .

When Majestic Princess did a 19/20 season in Australia there was definitely a Crooners Bar. It appeared from what was previously the VIP gaming area and was generally not popular due to it's impractical layout and being a thoroughfare to the grand Theatre.

Quantum is now sailing out of Australia for 2021

There are several cruise ships programmed to start their Australian season in October this year. None of them are here now and there is no guarantee that will be allowed back in until the Government lifts it's cruise ban. Doesn't stop the cruise lines actively selling the Australian itineraries however and I guess it's up to the individual whether to take the risk and book.

I am prepared to assume that if the Australian Government gives the go ahead for cruises to resume from Australian ports, albeit with restrictions such as cruises to nowhere or within Australian and possibly New Zealand ports cruise lines won't be able to get down here fast enough.

If the Australian and New Zealand governments allow cruising to re start in October there is one school of thought that ships could take on a full crew and re locate here without passengers. Obviously such a cruise would run at a massive loss but the cruise could also be seen as a way of quarantine for all crew before arrival. More then likely there would be lots more processes involved before any passengers could be taken on for the Australian/NZ season. I would imagine any such cruises would be of a shorter duration and only available to Australian and NZ passengers. It's really too early to predict what might happen between now and October.

Can anyone see the Asia/Pacific sailings ? We are booked on TP Hawaii to Brisbane Australia 14th Oct 2021but if it is not going to Alaska it can't sail back on a TP🤔 Anyway Australian State Boarders keep opening and closing like a dunny door at a concert 🤣

I am surprised your Quantum trans Pacific from Hawaii has not already been cancelled. My travel agent has said no cruises of more than 7 nights can leave an American port through till November 2021. This rule would still have applied even if the Alaskan season for Quantum had gone ahead. Princess has already cancelled trans Pacific cruises for Emerald and Coral  in September/October because of this rule. Not to say Quantum won't come out to Australia from Asia to start the Australian season in October if our borders open and cruising resumes.
