  1. We are today docked at Salaverry -- only here for 5 hours - will not go ashore since it is 9 miles from port into the city - have really had enough of Peru and western coast of So.America. Surprising in diversity yet mucho desert and lots of "fragrances" permeating the atmosphere. Sea day tomorrow - then we'll be back in northern hemisphere. Spirit is in great condition - Captain Arma has been challenged almost every day along the way - land etc. Have some wonderful lecturers aboard enlightening me (all of us I dare say) with obscure facts about this part of the world.

Enjoying the trip - Venetian and Captain's table tomorrow night. I'm getting to like Spirit better except for the unfortunate theater arrangement.

    Crew is fabulous as usual.

Kill them at trivia Mary Ann!

  2. Your are more likely to be offered an upgrade once you have passed the basic landmark of 100 days, and even more so when passing 250 days, otherwise I agree. However this will only happen once you are onboard ship.

au contraire. we have been upgrade twice by our T.A

  3. Not my first visit to London and the point of the visit was to relive the past and "soak up the sights" - alas, some of the favorites ones (pubs) are long gone in favor of NEW London. As our beloved Judy said - I'm glad I saw the world before we ruined it.

Had looked forward to a few special days in London before embarking on QM2 crossing - a small bucket on the bucket list. Glad to cross that one off -- and now can't wait to get back on SS. The Queen is not for me. Yes, elegant, just as expected size-wise, decor-wise, perhaps my expectations were a bit unrealistic in that I'd hoped to be able to relate on a different scale.

Princess Grill suite was very attractive - all comforts with the exception of the totally inadequate bathroom. Very spoiled by SS room service - in Princess deck 10 tray was brought and deposited with covers on - server left and was annoyed when we called for tray pick-up, advising that was responsibility of the suite attendant when turn-down time came.

Distances between venues a challenge at times, particularly in the very rough seas we experienced during a 36 hour period. Captain epitomized keep calm and carry on - he reported next day that overnight sustained winds had been 70 MPH and at 1:30 a gust of 110 MPH was recorded. Later lots of broken glass and 6 broken hips were reported.

Never did discover a cozy little nook(bar) where one could just relax with a drink or coffee. Continually producing room key for charges a pain in the neck. I missed the light/bright decor of SS ships (excluding Spirit) -- most window tables were occupied and most others are interior and dark. Yes Pash - there are some beautiful public rooms - particularly the elegant library with 10,000 volumes, but very few comfortable seats for staring at the sea or skimming a book. Not easy to make new friends and make a date for dinner -- assigned seating observed although at least not set dinner times in Princess Grill. Walked through the Queens Grill and found it almost identical to Princess. I did not think the food was particularly good and can't remember one outstanding dinner. Most of all missed the personal interactions with staff and "family". Personal observations of other passengers indicated most were well pleased and highly impressed - and I'm happy for them.

These are simply my personal opinions. Enjoyed two previous trips on the Queens Elizabeth - so I had some previous experience - but times have changed and so have I, and I'll be glad to be back on one of my favorite ships.

Mary Ann ,at least you were rocking and rolling!....how,was,the trivia ?.and the cocktails?

  4. There is also a restaurant called "Regina Magherita" which they are billing as "for families."

So, the absence of a casino, the addition of a kids' room, a restaurant for families and no "supper club" seem to suggest a different target audience for this ship.

    Wow,a romper room,what's next? A pet walk?

  5. Sailing from Port Everglades Nov 24 - Dec 4 on Silver Spirit and have a few questions...

Is anything special done for Thanksgiving?

When are any Christmas decorations usually put up?

What's the TV coverage, if any, for American football on Silversea?

They usually have Turkey on Thanksgiving,as far as football ,espn is international so all you get is soccer for the most part.... Go Pats...

  6. Reading the WC press release, it states that a 3 night inclusive package on the Muse is indeed a free extension of the WC for all full WC passengers.

Those WC passengers will be given priority when filling cabins on the Muse. They can opt to stay for the entire cruise for a total of 13 extra days.

Once they know who's in, the rest of us can fill the rest of the space. Plus there will be a lot of SS establishment also on the 3 day sailing, starting out of Nice.

If there's a lot of interest from WC passengers, I suppose they will be selling the itinerary as a 13 or a 10 day, based on availability of cabins.

If those number are high, it will feel like being late to a party. If one opts to get in on day 4, you completely miss the party.

Starting to rethink even wanting to play this game.

Christine, you will NEVER be late for the party as it can't start without you!!

  7. I received a small brochure in the mail about this promo…The cruises are on the Shadow…the picture on the front of the brochure is the Whisper. Yes, they are sister ships but why print that picture where the name is clearly visible?

It's all marketing, one hand doesn't know what the other is doing! Doesn't any one proof read ?

  8. In the past two weeks I have mailed SS through their own web site with a particular request. I have not had one reply or even an acknowledgment of my mail. Failing that I asked for a call back three times, nothing.

Disgraceful from SS, they really need to get their act together. I bet if the mail was " 4 people need a world tour" they would reply in a shot!

You can try BarbaraH@silversea.com....always found her as an excellent source.

  9. See,this is what happens when you cut back on fresh fruit, premium wines, the Silversea Experience( remember that one!) fancy hours douvres .......you get to build a new Ship!!

  10. Dusababy here echoing and confirming CruisinPashmina's excellent review of our trip. Thanks pal - didn't we have a time:)

She's said it all - I had computer glitch - now I re-live through her.

You all know who the cheerleaders (your call, not mine) are so if you can discount that and us - take the report as gospel.

I hadn't been on Shadow in quite awhile and was thrilled by the condition of the ship - the superb service - and genuine excellence of the experience. I marked almost every category on the questionnaire a big 10 - with a couple of 9s thrown in.

Try it -- you'll like it

Glad you had a great time Mary Ann, bet you killed them at Trivia!

  11. Dusababy boarding in San Francisco in just ten days ! Can't wait ! Been there done that (Alaska) several times but it never gets old and IMO everyone needs to see AK at least once -- thrilling last frontier.

Signed up for interesting excursions including my very first float plane trip into the wilderness. Never too old to try new things: if it ain't dangerous or illegal -- I'm all in.

    Anyone else on board?

have a great trip Mary Ann, i know you'll kill them in trivia!
