  1. Yes, I was surprised at the number myself. Remember, although I've been on board since Jan 6, all but three of those days have been sea days.

As well, there was a cancelled port of call and that day had nothing big on, no concert, no lectures, just a movie in the afternoon and an interview with the captain in the morning. It was to have been a deck bbq – also cancelled when it rained in the morning.)

Finally, there was no reason to disconnect because it was unlimited so we'd leave the line up from 5 – 7:30 when we left for dinner but weren't necessarily online that time. It was also left up by accident multiple times and once because the system 'broke' and nothing would come up, including the sign-off page.

Still, we were aware that because it was unlimited we were online much more often (for instance, I went online during tea to answer a question that came up in conversation, something I would never have done by-the-minute.)

We do work and need skype to check voicemail at home (we don't make other calls that way but respond by email.) We also have to check email at least twice daily but that takes all of 12 minutes a day (3 to check both email and download all forum pages I need to read, read posts and write responses offline, 3 to reply & repeat later in the day.)

As for multiple devices – sadly, no. In fact, had it allowed that, I would support the unlimited daily rates (although I would suggest the 5-day rate should not be 5 consecutive days but 5 days over a cruise.) My main complaint was my 1000 minutes was taken away.

We cheat and use a router in the cabin so all four of our devices can be up simultaneously and when we are on a “minutes plan” we try to only go online when we are both here so we can both update at the same time. We also download the podcast of the radio news each evening and we do that concurrently with checking and sending emails and updating forum posts.

In fact, the router was the main reason we'd disconnect from the internet before leaving the cabin – that way we could access the internet from the lounge or other rooms.

BTW: as to the comment of 'piggish' behaviour when I talked to the IT guy, saying not disconnecting was the only way I could think of protesting SS refusal to sell me the $250 package, he said it made no difference because they had upgraded the bandwidth. Remember, I was simply not disconnecting. I was not up or downloading any content so the amount of bandwidth my computer would be using to maintain connection would be minimal.

    Unbelievable!

  2. Crystal advertises $300 for 1500 minutes (so 20 cents vs 25 on SS.) We'll see about speed, or even if it is available when we cruise next year.

Whining has paid off, the $250 package is now being offered on my current cruise.

BTW: during the time we had unlimited internet we used 6000 minutes.

Wow,how did you have time to do anything else?

  3. To me, a regular Regent cruiser, the Silversea perks are pitiful. I can't accept the fact that after paying over $60K for a 23 day cruise on Silver Ecplorer I am going to have to pay hundreds more for internet access.

    Marc

But the price you pay to sail Regent,is so much more than Silversea, and I have been on both, and they are comparable, to say they are mean, doesn't ring true to me

  4. To 5Waldos: maybe u could pack up your other excursion stuff before the Galapagos trip and ship/send back to your home. I have done that in Europe a # of times and it has worked well.

Great idea but we don't have enough turn around time to ship off the things. We get into Guayaquil late on a Friday afternoon and sail off Saturday. We'll work it out- it is just going to take some very careful thought and shifting things back and forth. We'll each have two suitcases- a horrible thought really as most times we aim for a single roll on. Oh well. Some nice crushable fleece and a down vest may ease things.

You know- as I write this I realize that another option might be to pack both of us mixed in two suitcases. Need to think that through. Sometimes it is very helpful to try to explain to others what you are doing- other solutions begin to take shape.

was Jeff Bezos on this ship?

  5. Onboard the spirit now. The holiday cruise has MANY children onboard, actually too many. I was surprise when our butler Kumar told me there is over 25 children onboard. The hot tubs have been constantly monopolized by kids. Not what I expected from Silversea. Service has been very good but it is very hard to get a chaise lounge by the pool.

Next time, bring a bolster bar and drop it in the hot tub! Ala Caddy Shack!

  6. Back to the thread!

Interesting how few regrets at the loss of Ms. Bettridge.

Perhaps this is the time to mount a campaign to bring back the passenger list. Each time I've cruised since its elimination everyone - everyone - wants to see it returned.

And there are a few other things I would like too.

Mr. Anderson -- are you listening?

Merry Christmas Mariann,I am sending you this from Whole Foods as My email,TV,and phone won't be on till Friday, and more snow tomorrow .Ho,Ho,Ho!

  7. Yesterday was another great day on board. Beautiful weather for an early morning run. Then it was off for a day of "Salsa & Salsa" in Costa Maya.

We went to a local beach hotel where we were given fresh ingredients and instructed on making 2 types of salsa and then guacamole. It was fabulous. After snacking away, many of us got on the dance floor and learned the salsa. It was a fun experience. Many then chose to take a dip in the gulf before heading back to the ship. Attended another great lecture on space.

Great early show "Signed, Sealed and Delivered", followed by a delicious outdoor meal at the Grill. We've had unbelievable fresh fish. Then it was on to karaoke and dancing till 1:30. I'm going to need a vacation from my vacation.

The guests on this segment are great fun. Quite a lively bunch. Anxiously awaiting the deck party. It will be a wild one!

In Santo Tomas, Guatemala today. It was quite smoky around the port and woke to that smell. Reminded me a lot of the Amazon. Decided it was wise to run on the treadmill instead. Not doing any excursion today so taking the opportunity to do some laundry. Although we get free laundry in the Silver Suite, we send out very little. Decisions for the day will be selecting 2015 voyages :) Tonight's dinner is in La Terrazza.

    Snorkeling around Belize tomorrow :)

You are really having way too much fun, woke up to snow, and sleet today ,and closing and moving in another storm coming this week ! Aye caramba!...rented a truck for tomorrow with bald tres to move Fran's sensitive stuff,so just another fun week coming up!

  8. Does Silversea still charge for wifi? If so, how much?

I would have thought that since they consider their ships as equivalent to five star plus hotels, they should offer free wifi as most hotels of this class do. Regent will include it free from next year for most cabin categories as it is for those who have only sailed with them for a moderate number of days. Seabourn also give it free for many hours for those who have sailed with them a few times.

It's the worlds worst, there is only one company and all satellite , wait till you get on shore and find a coffee shop ! Remember 20 years ago we didn't even have this!

  9. We are the SILVER CAESARS but have not conquered the world. BILLCROOZ and I are on the same team - he has a wealth of trivia knowledge.....:-) good addition and appreciated.

"feeling" is a nice way to put it - in all aspects throughout the ship. Chef/food question has been answered by others with different opinions, just as in all things.

Delilah -- forgot to bring your address but will be in touch after I get home later this week.

Thanks for the kind words Mary Ann, you and Winny are the best! Hope you got home safely. We got home to fog, rain, and had to go out for a pizza!...aggggh!

  10. Turn over of back to back went smoothly. Nice to have a few hours with cellular service. We are around 425 guests for the segment. The muster is taking place as I type. We were not required to attend the second muster of our voyage.

An amazing thing happened to us personally today. A friend called and was asking about the past segment. Then she inquired whether we changed cabins. I replied no and then my cabin door bell rang. I went to the door and opened it to find our friends standing there. They decided to surprise us and booked two weeks ago and kept it secret.

It's sure to be another fabulous segment. In 45 minutes we ahead out to sea. Dining in Seishen tonight with our friends, after the CC Meet and Mingle.

You guys are having way too much fun!...just got home and found out I no longer have a butler!......bummer

  11. Mike, the CD. Not sure why you haven't seen him Mary Ann. He's been in the reception/bar area every day in the morning. I've seen him around the pool mid day and then at night, I've seen him daily around the ship and also outside of each and every show, before and after the performance.

He's a great guy. Extremely personable and friendly. My Husband and I have enjoyed each and every conversation we've had with him.

This is probably one of the first voyages where we have frequently run into the Officers as well.

It's been a great cruise. The pool deck party last night was fabulous. Food was great and the music and dancing was so much fun. The entertainment crew is talented!!!!

Last night before we start round 2 tomorrow. Looking forward to the next 8 days after these were so spectacular!

I agree !Found Mike to be very personable,( even though he's a Jets fan), sorry we didn't get a chance to say goodbye. Found the dining to be the best ever, and the young singers to be the most talented we have seen. Got your card and will stay in touch...keep singing!

Please meet Peter, a member of the Silver Spirit Bar team. Peter works in the Panorama Lounge on board the Silver Spirit. Peter is from the Philippines, his family lives in Palompon, Leyte.

Peter is married and has two wonderful children (boy & girl). His son, John Lloyd is 15 years old, his daughter Ainna Marie is the youngest at age 12.

Peter was on board the Spirit when earlier this month (Nov 4th) Typhoon Haiyan stuck Palompon and devastated his family home—a large coconut tree fell on his home and slice it in half. Fortunately, his family was not hurt. Now, however his family is in need of immediate assistance from the Government to rebuild/repair the family home. Peter’s family does receive donations in terms of needed food assistance but his family is in critical need of construction materials to repair their family home.

Peter used to use daily, the internet free video service, Skype to talk to his John Lloyd and Ainna Marie and his wife--Virgie. However since Hayain struck his home, his family is without a computer and he instead calls daily to keep in touch with his family.

Peter has been with Silversea for over four years. He first started serving on board the Shadow before transferring to the Spirit. What Peter likes most about working for Silversea is the opportunity to serve guests in the Panorama lounge and serving as a valued member of the Spirit Bar Team.

Methinks we will have to help out Peter when we board!

  13. Good question. And can you find out who the CD is starting Dec. 13?

More importantly, who is head bartender at the pool and in the Main bar??

    :D

I must have advanced CRS.(cant remember s...t) how could I have forgotten the 2 MOST important members on the ship!!!!

  14. As Doug mentioned above, yesterday on boarding we went directly to Reception to check-in, Natalya told us there was a problem with our suite--they did not have one for us. Needless to say we were initially frustrated then out popped the two sailors (Doug, Dieter (and their beautiful brides Lynn, and Debbie, plus another cruise friend Betty) laughing at our expense (they laughed so hard, they (Dougburns, Wellseasoned) wet themselves :))

Good Morning. Today, is the first of six sea days in a row until we reach Bermuda. Highlights on board include: multiple enrichment events (A Career in Broadcasting—Alastair Bruce, Movie Discussion—The Verdict with Marty Aronson, Enrichment Movie—Kramer vs Kramer presented also by Marty Aronson, Hollywood at War by Michael Freedlland, and an Enrichment Lecture—Great Ladies: Cleopatra and her Romans presented by Colonel (Retired) Gerald McCormack. Also, we have Spanish and Italian classes, Ice Carving demo, Wine tasting and Seminar (count me there) but departing early for Foxtrot Dance Class. In the late p.m., there is Team Trivia. Tonight’s entertainment is

    Clarinetist Peter Neighbor.

Wes,were boarding when you get off,do you know who the CD will be?

  15. We know there are 12 cruisers anxiously awaiting Spirit's arrival from Barcelona - she sails this evening. Anyone else out there boarding with the rest of us on November 25? We have qualified for the Meet & Mingle but you must sign up in order to be notified.

    Looking forward to meeting everyone.:)

    Dusababy (aka Mary Ann)

Most of the guests coming probably aren't on the early release program from their captors, but we are!;)......11 days and counting..

  16. Has anybody had any conflicts with calls for jury duty vs cruise reservations?

Once you hit the magic number of 70, at least in Mass.you no longer have to serve...you can if you want to,

  17. While you're at it...I guess add all the fat people and drinkers. How about those slow moving aged? And now we can do away with 7 day cruises. Who will SS be marketing to?? What an unpleasant thread.

There's a used car dealers from Jersey charter coming up,perhaps you should book it and let us know how pleasant it was😱
