  1. Just in case anyone has one, I have just seen this on the P&O website:-

Samsung has now withdrawn all of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphones from sale globally after a spate of fires involving perceived safe replacements. In a statement issued late on Monday 10th October 2016, Samsung requested that consumers with original Note 7 devices or replacements obtained after the recall should turn off the power and seek a refund or exchange them for different phones.

In light of the above, P&O Cruises respectfully request passengers whom have the aforementioned affected phone not to bring onboard.

If you have not seen the Samsung request or have inadvertently brought your Galaxy Note 7 onboard we respectfully request that you power down your device and do not charge or use for the duration of your cruise.

It is suggested that the cabin safe security box is used for storage.

Whilst we emphasis and understand this is not ideal, safety is our priority and we therefore thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

  2. Oh my goodness I wonder how we manage to arrange our private tours then. Doesn't stop us .

I am sorry but I cannot see why not knowing the exact minute you will arrive somewhere stops you arranging anything privately.

In most places there are bog standard places they all visit..ship and private tours...you may tweek your own one a little from the ship ones. Plus as I have said if its a decent tour operator /taxi driver they will know when the ship is arriving/leaving.

Could you perhaps suggest what other reason there could be when other cruiselines let their passengers know the times ?

  3. Ohh ok, so do I just go into my booking. try to cancel and then re-book at a lower price. The room will be available because, of course, I already have the room?? Sounds a bit naughty really........will P and O let me do the same with a select to a late saver option?? ;):D

If I remember correctly I booked another room on the saver rate first then went back and cancelled the one on flexible rate. You have to pay upfront on the saver rate and cannot get a refund or change dates though.

  4. Wow!! Thats a great price! We have booked an overnighter there for 20th January. We booked it on 7th April and it was £62 for the room which we thought was excellent value, but its obviously not as great as £29.50 :(

Sounds like you probably booked the Flexible rate as Saver rates are not released until about 7 or 8 months before. If you did then you can cancel without losing any money and rebook on the Saver rate which is currently £36. We have done this before at Southampton, booked Flexible to guarantee we will get a room then cancelled and rebooked Saver rates when they were released 😊

  5. There is no longer a chocoholics event [emoji22]

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

They havn't had chocoholics for a long time. We were on Oceana and Azura last year and they now have an "enhanced afternoon tea". This is not advertised but it is in the Horizon daily paper but not highlighted. Don't think they want people to know as it is only a small selection in the buffet but has very nice cupcakes 😋

  6. Just had another thought. If P&O are starting to change their alcohol policy to bring them in line with other companies, then maybe they will start offering an All Inclusive Drinks Package. Most cruise lines now offer this and it is the one thing I don't like about P&O.

  7. Could it be that, having booked Select they choose the cabin they want at the outset and then tick the No Upgrade box?

As others have said, P&Os interpretation of a 'better cabin' is not necessarily everyone's

But surely those people who have knowingly selected "no upgrade" would not come on here and state they have never had an upgrade ?

  8. Hi

I am just back from a cruise on Ventura. On boarding I wanted to order a bottle of spirit and mixers to be delivered on room service to my cabin as we had done on all previous cruises. When we arrived in our cabin, I could not find a price list nor was there anything showing on our interactive tv. On contacting room service I was advised that it was a new company policy recently introduced to stop providing drinks for consumption in your cabin, they could provide the mixer drinks but not the spirits.

Has anyone else had this issue on any other P&O ships?

Must remember to pack and take some with us on our next cruise

I fear that this may be the beginning of a change to their alcohol policy. There is more money to be made from a minibar than providing a bottle of spirits. I don't expect it will belong before they stop us taking our own spirits on board 😢

  9. Surely that is in breach of their booking conditions, where it states under the terms and conditions of select fares 'Priority for complimentary cabin upgrades'.

I see from a later post on here that someone on a Select fare has had an upgrade. I just don't understand why so many who book a Saver fare get an upgrade when there many more Select fare passengers say they have never had an upgrade 😕

  10. Theorectically from the customers point of view anything better than what they booked is an upgrade.

I was looking at it from Pandos point of view that a fully obs view to a less obs view they would not class as an upgrade as you still are in the same type.

On Britannia do you get people booking inside saver fares being allocated balconies.

There is another thread from someone who paid a select fare ,spoke to people who had booked saver fares of some type and seemed to be upgraded.

Pando promised that with their select fare you would be in with first dibs for any upgrades. I was just trying to find out if they were circumnavigating that in some way.

I am interested in this also. On my last cruise I enquired several times, as it got close to sailing date, whether any automatic upgrades for select passengers would be available. I was told not on each occassion yet people who had booked a late saver were given good upgrades. I do not believe they have changed the way they offer upgrades, it would be quite time consuming I would think to administer it. I expect the upgrades are still going to those booking late saver for a guarantee cabin.

  11. Does anyone know the approximate flight times from Manchester to Barbados. Thinking of a cruise on Britannia in March 2017. Fly out cruise back.

    Hi !

We are on this cruise flying from Manchester on Sat 11th. There are 2 flights this day, both with Thomas Cook. We are on the 9.15am and the second flight is at 10.00am. You can request which flight you want and if it is not full they will allocate that one for you.

We would have preferred a Thomson flight but these were only available on Friday 10th however the cost of the cruise was a lot more.

    Hope this helps.

  12. You normally have to be out of your cabin about 8am but are allowed to stay on the ship and use all of the facilities until your coach transfer to the airport. This is usually about 3-4 hours before your flight. You can still eat in any of the restaurants etc and drinks can still be charged to your cruise card. There will be a separate charge to your credit card for any purchases on your last day.

  13. I had an incident a few years ago after returning from a cruise. Firstly I would point out that we did not register my card on the ship. However, I did use it to pay for part of the cruise.

I tried to use my card for an online order and it was declined. I phoned my card provider and was asked various security questions, address, dob etc. I was then told that I had failed the security and would need to go into any branch of Barclays Bank to prove my identity. I did this and provided passport, driving licence and a recent credit card statement. At this point it became clear that the address had been changed on my account to an address in Southampton which is why I failed the security. Another card had been sent to the 'new' address.

It was passed to the fraud department and I was issued a new card. I spoke to the fraud department and asked how they could allow someone else to change my address details and I was assured that they passed the security.

Whoever it was knew address, dob etc.

The next time that I paid for a cruise using credit card, the system had changed, the card details had to be keyed in on the phone so the operator did not know these details. Make of this whatever you like, but it suggests to me that a 'problem' had been uncovered.

Thats interesting. I have been following a thread on a Facebook cruising page where a ladies daughter and her boyfriend had been swindled out of the money that they paid for a P&O cruise. The boyfriends Dads partner worked for P&O at Southampton and had supposedly booked a cruise for them. Turns out she never booked the cruise and after an internal investigation the staff member was sacked. I wonder if it could have been the same person in your case accessing customers details ?

  14. P&O have a freephone number that I understand they answer more quickly as it costs them money. It has to be provided as per the "bill of rights":-

"The right to have included on each cruise line’s website a toll-free phone line that can be used for questions or information concerning any aspect of shipboard operations. To contact P&O Cruises, please call 0800 0523840."

  15. We did this cruise in April last year. We landed about 10am and were on the ship just after 12. I am pretty sure we didnt sail till quite late, about 10pm. I would think you should be on the ship for 4pm and would have a few hours spare to look round Venice if you are not too bothered about dinner in the MDR.

P&O provide a water taxi service at a reasonable price. If you just dump your carryons in the cabin and head straight for the water taxi you should be fine. You just need to check what time the last one back to the ship is.

The sail out of Venice in the dark with all the buildings lit up with classical music being played on deck is not to be missed. There was a commentary as well pointing out all the landmarks.
