I have 25 cruises under my belt and all but 2 are Carribbean. The best excursion I have ever taken has been cave snorkeling in Playa del Carmen. I booked it as an excursion for Cozumel while sailing Princess, and absolutely loved it. It was the coolest, scariest LOL (I'm a little claustrophobic) thing I have ever done. Would recommend it without hesitation.

My TA is a personal friend and I have traveled in your exact situation. He advised me to ask for insurance that allows cancellation of your cruise for ANY reason.
As for flight quote, yes that seems reasonable. All the best to you and your family

Mom and I fly into FLL and rent a car so we aren't stuck at the hotel or cabbing etc again. I return at MIA or downtown drop off if available. We find it convenient.

I took a special leg of an inaugural from Acapulco to LA. We stopped at Xtapa, Cabo San Lucas, Puerta Vallarta and Mazatlan. I enjoyed every stop. We did book tours since the cities were new to us unlike the Caribbean. I looked recently to book it again as my mom hasn't done that itinerary. I would say it is definitely worth doing. Try to get as much time in Cabo as possible as it is beautiful!

Carnival is doing some offers of reduced single supplements but they are capacity controlled. So I too was able to get a lower price than you paid for your son, but had to book in advance. There is a sweet spot usually about 2-3 months, and when they put them out, they go quickly, again because of capacity issues. It might be a better deal to see if son wants to bring a friend. Have friend pay the difference between 1-2 people and he would then have someone to hang out with. Just an idea....

Condolences and prayers to all..enjoying the thread..nobody ever talks about it..Sarah
I couldn't have said it better!!
I am most at peace when on a cruise ship. At 45 I will be taking my 22nd in a couple months, and all who are close to me, know that I want to be cremated and have my ashes sprinkled at sea. Part of it, is so who ever is closest at the time can experience that peace I feel at sea....

I did the Epic last year and echo everything everyone said about not being worried. I don't like to eat alone, even when traveling for business I get to go and bring it back to my hotel room. But you know what, I really felt empowered. I loved the group and the hostess in the lounge. It was kind of a high school flashback going around and learning names, but we were all up in the cafe at breakfast, so I asked to join people OR if I wanted to journal I went down a deck which on the epic was the Italian restaurant and got a quiet table alone. It was awesome. For lunch I ate in port or open seating etc, and dinner typically went with the group, or joined friends via the white board for the specialty places. I met a very good friend I am still in touch with. Female, but a great friend my age . So don't worry.
I'm doing the Carnival Freedom in September and took late seating hoping I would have a good chance to be seated with singles. My TA requested it for me, so fingers crossed.

Enjoy it. We are going in September
Me too, and it's already all I talk about LOL Have a blast!!!

Just found this thread and will be watching. I have never seen deals for solo travel and am very interested in doing an east med cruise so maybe something will pop up.
Look at the Norwegian epic. I think she is over there somewhere and has cabins specifically built for solo travelers. They are called the studios and are awesome!

So excited!! Just booked a 1a with sofa and porthole on the Freedom for 625 total including travel protection. 8 nights at sea here I come. Just hoping there are some other solos or folks my age (45) on board. The role call is really quiet.

Thanks all for the update, I thought it was the Ruby, but wording was fuzzy, and now it makes perfect sense!!! CC Rocks.

We were behind her sailing on Niew Amsterdam and there is a helicopter just circling during sail away. She has slowed and appears to have changed course????

Thanks all for the kind responses. It was good to know what to expect, and also nice to know there are sugar free options if we ask for mom who is a diabetic. Again thanks to all, and happy sailing!!

We always travel in the day before. On my last cruise in April, I was sitting next to a young girl who was traveling with a group of friends for her birthday weekend. I seem to remember that because our flight was delayed from the time our wheels touched down in Ft. Lauderdale, she had 45 minutes to make it to the pier.... I felt bad for her, and thought she should have read CC first and planned better ahead.

I have searched all over, and can't find anything, so am hoping someone knows. We are sailing Sunday on the Niew Amsterdam. 3 Generations of ladies (44, 69, and 92) or well gram turns 92 while on the cruise. We had booked an SY suite, and I read on our Facebook roll call that they were offering upgrades. So for $500 for the 3 of us, I am upgrading to the next higher bracket suites that allow us the perks of the Neptune lounge etc, as a surprise for Grandma.
One of the things we read was that they will bring tea service to the cabin. I read about the high teas in the dining room which sound interesting, but have never done before. Can anyone tell me if they have done the tea to the room and how it was? Gram is somewhat mobility challenged, so I thought it might be a nice treat for her one afternoon.
Appreciate any insight anyone can offer.

Probably a silly question, but we are booked for our first cruise Feb 2014 on the Dawn and cant seem to find an excursion listed on NCL for while we are in port in Belize.
I am thinking maybe it would be a good thing to just skip getting off the boat and spend some time checking out the boat and enjoying the day on board. We do have 3 other ports that we will have activities planned for so thinking it may be nice to have a down day and some extra time on the ship to explore since i am sure the week will fly by.
Is it okay to do this? Do others do this? If we change our minds are we able to then get off upon arrival or do you need to have everything booked ahead of time?
I love to do it and plan to do it at least once a trip. I also enjoy photographing (photo journalistic style) and find I can take my time on port afternoons getting some great shots of the normally packed areas.

Thanks for your review! I sailed the Epic the day you disembarked and had a fantastic time as well! Was hoping someone from my sailing would have posted a review by now, but no such luck. I guess we did just get home on Saturday... ;-) Would do one, but I got engaged on the cruise and was celebrating with family that was along and didn't participate in nearly as many events as you did! So thanks for letting me reminisce. You write great reviews and look like you have a good, fun time wherever you go. :)
Congratulations on the engagement!!

Thanks for sharing your experience! Your first review on Epic is what convinced me to book my solo cruise. I can't wait!!

Me too.... I was thinking about it, but just couldn't push the button. NCL should pay you Lara!!!
You mention the quiet zone on Deck 18. Is that the same as the Posh area I read about? I believe you buy a pass for there? I'm considering that but don't know how to get the pass or what the fee is. But if there is another area you recommend I would go there :)

and so is the man next to you..... Do you think we could get him to sail again in April when I'm on the Epic LOL :cool:That skirt is gorgeous! -
Yes they sure are. You can't look at their pic without smiling. They just radiate happy, don't they? :)
I couldn't agree more!!:D

After reading this thread I think I would like to gown up next time, but I wore dressy dresses both of our formal nights and was just fine.

What was your upgrade offer and what did you bid

I am new to bidding. We are on the 8 night 3/1 on the Star. I bid on a forward facing suite the day after booking. We were then roomed in a BA on deck 10. Do most people make multiple bids? The ship appears to have a lot of availability. It’s also my 50th birthday while at sea, don’t know if they look at that or not.
