  1. If you book an "on your own" land package through Princess, how flexible is that. What things can you change/add?

If you are doing 2 nights in Denali, can you stay in 1 lodge or do you always have to move for the 2nd night?

    Thank you!

Where did you get the idea that you change rooms on a two-night stay? All Princess tours you stay in the same room while you're at each site.

  2. I've had my Travelscoot just over five years. It came with SLA batteries. I'm not a battery expert but the batteries that came with it were 14ah so I would say switching to 7ah batteries would probably cut your distance in half. I switched to lithium batteries last year because of the weight. My only trip outside the U.S. with lithium batteries has been to Australia on Qantas airlines. Qantas made me show all the paperwork on the lithium batteries. The only airline in the U.S. to ask me for paperwork has been American Airlines. I always take the paperwork just in case I'm asked for it. If you go with LiFePO4 you may not be able to find the proper paperwork. I don't know about flying in Europe with lithium batteries but maybe someone else can help you with that.

I just returned from Rome in June. Not only did I have 3 Lithium-Ion batteries (my wife and I both have Travelscoots) but I have 12 Lithium-Ion batteries for my Oxygen Concentrator. I was pulled out of line at one the the US Airways stations I whipped out all the paperwork for the batteries. The supervisor came over and said I was the first person who had all the paperwork ready to go and said it normally took a half an hour to approve a person with so many Lithium-Ion batteries, she waved me through in less than 5 minutes. I think I just overwhelmed them with paperwork :).

  3. Hi, born2cruize. I am looking at Princess' website and for four it shows a stateroom with balcony for July 8th at $5736. Maybe I am doing something wrong? There are two adults and two teens. Thanks!

I'm sorry. I missed that there was 4 of you in your party.

  4. I posted this under the New Cruisers forum but thought I might get more responses here.

I am planning a trip to Alaska for my family of four (next July). My head is spinning from the choices and I really need some guidance . This will be out first cruise and I want to make the right decision.

From what I have read, it looks like Holland America and Princess are known for the best cruises to Alaska. I am hoping to book a stateroom with a balcony and it looks like the Princess may be out of our price range ($5736.00 for 7 nights ).

The two I am looking at right now are, the Carnival Spirit and Holland America ms Oosterdam. Holland America is about $500 more than Carnival. Holland America comes in right at $5000 and I would like to not go over that if necessary. Like I said, Princess and also Celebrity are closer to $6000.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have read and read and am still not any closer to a decision. I'm sure we will be happy which ever route we take. Not looking for a lot of entertainment, etc. We are really just interested in seeing what Alaska has to offer. Thanks so much! :D

I'm a little bit confused. Just looking at Princess's website (all quotes are for July 2012) I can get a mini-suite Cat AA for about a $1,000.00 less for 2 than what you quote and that's not even using a discount TA. Even a CAT BF is only a little more than $4,000.00 for 2. But I also agree with everyone else, the itinerary is the most important thing to consider. My opinion is any cruise which includes Glacier Bay is number 1 with Hubbard Glacier number 2. As far as ports go the more time in Juneau and Ketchikan the better. And if you can add Sitka, that's a bonus. While I have sailed Princess and have two cruises on Princess next year, I can't comment on Holland America as I'm not old enough for them. :)

  5. The link is working. Maybe your browser doesn't like the fancy scripts that site uses?

Send me an e-mail (link in signature) and I can e-mail it to you. :D

I find that with most web sites it comes down to web designers using Microsoft standards instead of web standards.

  6. What date do you have? The latest ones I have are from May 29th. If you need help posting it, you can send them to me and I'll upload them.

Here's the ones from May 29th:

I tried to view your link but it crashed my computer twice. It won't let me view the site. I'm interested how much difference there is between the May 29th Freestyle and my Freestyle in February. My Hawai'i site has most of the handouts that were available during our cruise. Thanks if you could do this for me.

  7. How does turnaround day work when on a back to back cruise? We will be in the same cabin, so I know we won't be packing and disembarking.

But we will want to get off the ship and go and do something in Honolulu. Are we able to return to and board the ship anytime we like?

Hoping someone here knows so I can save an international phone call to find out!

We did a B2B on Carnival a couple of yrs ago. I'm sure all crusie lines work the same.

On debarkation day, we were told to stay on the ship, and meet at the info desk or purser's desk. After everyone had left, we we personally escorted off the ship and right back on. Yes we had to get a new card and new picture, establish a new on board account, but this was done way before any of the new passengers were allowed to board. Once we were on the ship again,. we had the ship to ourselves except for the crew. We were NOT allowed near our cabin as they close the halls to do all the rooms, but we were allowed in all the public areas. Once they start letting new passengers on board, you can then go eat once again and your new crusie has started.

    Cheers

    Len

We have done 4 B2B previously with our 5th coming in January 11. The 4 previously were Carnival (2), NCL and Celebrity. I'm glad Carnival has changed there procedures as we has to disembark and get back at the end of the line to go through embarkation. On NCL we when to the pursers desk the day before and received our new cruise cards. We left in the morning to tour the town and when we returned, the only thing we had to do was get our pictures again. On Celebrity we received in our cabin a transit card that we showed when we disembarked, and for some reason we had to surrendered our passports (this was in Fort Lauderdale and we are US citizens). Upon our return we again showed our transit card. There was a POC in the embarkation area that we had to stop at, get our passports and they gave us new cards. Then we got our pictures taken.

  8. If you are going to Icy Strait Point stay away from the Princess sponsored whale watching tour. It has the shortest stay in the area (only 45 minutes of whale watching with most of that looking trough windows and not on deck). The others often have much longer stays in the whaling area (it takes about 45 minutes from Hoonah to the whale watching area). The longest times watching whales is Glacier Winds.

In Juneau it really doesn't matter at they all go to the same area. You often see a parade of boats following each other. There the decision is the size of the boat you want to be on.

  9. On the main page under quick links is Shore Excursion. Select it and it will take you to a page where you select Panama Canal, then in the pop-up below put in the port city. A list of tours will show, select the more information link below the brief description. The next page should give you times and a better description.

Please be aware that these description are generic and may not be available for your cruise. Once you can purchase shore excursions can you actually see what tours are available for you sailing.

    Hope this helps.
