While booking NCL Joy for Alaska, it gives me an option to "Add Prepaid Service Charges" and that $15.00 USD per person per day.
Are these compulsory charges to be added, either at the time of booking or on-board ? Or this is optional like tips or gratuity ?

There is a deal for NCL Joy. If we opt for Balcony, there are few free perks. One of them is - With Free Specialty Dining, Guests 1 & 2 receive a Dining Package with up to 5 free meals at our Specialty Dining venues.

We are two adults and a (just turning) 3 years old. If we choose to go with any free dining package, do we pay only for one person ? He anyway doesn't eat full food :-) Or they are flexible to let him chew from our plate ?

We are planning to take cruise in end of this month. We are in Seattle, so most convenient would be, to take cruise from Seattle, though it will miss that scenery which starts from Vancouver islands.
Cruise from Seattle will sail through Hubbard Glacier and Sitka. Cruise from Vancouver will cover Glacier Bay and Skagway. We are traveling with 3 years old and if needed, we can rent car on respective ports to explore some area around. Not interested in long hikes, but looking for photographic options.
Any suggestions please ?

In Holland OOSTERDAM ship, I am looking at a balcony which says "Staterooms have solid steel verandah railings instead of clear-view Plexiglas® railings".
Going through old posts and many people didn't like because it blocks view of water, if they look down. Is this a metal sheet, which blocks view completely or these are metal rails/rods ? If these are metal rails, there shouldn't be any block, isn't ?
Please clarify, if somebody seen this kind of balcony.

We will not take cruise till Whittier/Seward. We have been there twice. So our only options are round trips. Will there be difference in routes of cruise go from Seattle vs Vancouver ?

We will be taking a (short) cruise from Vancouver, till ketchikan and back to Vancouver for 4 days. We have not taken any cruise earlier, but visited Alaska 2 times. It was all around Anchorage/Seward/Denali, etc.
Another choice is 6 or 7 days cruise, which will take us to either Juneau or Glacier NP or both. Our focus is not to do excursions or glaciers on those ports, but interested in scenery along the way and cruise experience of course.
I want to get some suggestions, who visited these places, if we leave apart Glaciers from trip, does scenery gets better when we move from Ketchikan towards Glacier NP/Juneau, in comparison to Vancouver to Ketchikan ?
