Read between the lines. Go over to the Holland America  board and read what they're saying. The former head of Holland America who is now in charge of the Holland America group is consolidating management and saving the salaries of the heads of Holland America line and Seabourn.

It wouldn't be a bad idea for RCI to do the same with Celebrity. All that's happened in the last few years is that the Celebrity prices have kept going up to the point that we have had to look elsewhere. RCL keeps going for bigger and bigger ships and I personally don't like them. Whoever is making these decisions has to face the music eventually.

That is someone else's mistake about the bigger and bigger RCL ships. Just as much as I'm sure some around here would like to see LLP gone, she also might be the more sensible person to take over a larger role as OTHERS leave.

  2. When CEOs and Presidents of the other cruise lines quit, I expect LLP would have to be dragged out of her office. Celebrity has become her baby and she's not going to give up on us so easy just because times are tough.  Seabourn - Holland America - Azamara, anyone else throwing in the towel? I can't even blame them but credit where credit is due.

My wife and I have sailed with Celebrity since 2003, are Captain's Club members, and receive regular e-mail messages from the cruise line. This particular message is the latest of many that have been sent this year. We have had excellent experiences on every cruise with Celebrity and are excited to cruise with them as soon as this fall. For us, the dining, shore excursions and interactions with onboard staff and officers are wonderful. I understand the frustrations of waiting on refunds and/or future cruise credits, but patience is required as everyone deals with this unprecedented pandemic.

    THIS!

Excellent analysis. What so many of the cheerleaders overlook is that this time, the cruise industry has TRULY shot its foot off.

From the viewpoint of the public as well as regulators, the cruise executives' bungling this time is far, far worse than anything in the past. Worse than Concordia, the sewage cruise, the fires, broken aziopods, the Princess "magic pipe," the onboard sex assaults ... those were seen as isolated, but the coronavirus mess is a long-running debacle.
From  Diamond up to Coral, from bad decisions to lies to botched attempts to blame the CDC to the refund delays ... nobody has done more this spring to hurt the reputation of cruising than the industry's leaders themselves

And meanwhile the airlines - hotels - subways - buses, everyone else gets a 100% free pass. The Coast Guard and politicians and health organizations can give the cruise lines bad info and disembarkation approvals - oops! The cruise lines get to be everyone's scapegoat once again, even for cruisers.

Va man, thanks for the response. Right from the start this thread has made me emotional in many ways so much so that I stopped looking at it. I came back to see if there had been any news about the people who were so sick. After reading about the death of the cousin of baseballmom2007  it was just too much for me to read Mojogurueds rather insensitive post. I have learned my lesson I will definitely not look at this post again as it makes me say things I would not normally do.

Repeat the Diamond Princess so that everyone gets sick? No thanks. People got off that ship and wound up being sick too. Where's the empathy for the Japanese families and folks passing by in the Tokyo subways?

The US Coast Guard obviously didn't want a Diamond Princess situation or they would have called for one. The passengers have to take responsibility for themselves and shelter in place after a March cruise.

    Here's my optimism:

Since we cannot cruise this year, and will not cruise in summer of 2021 unless there is an effective vaccine by then, I predict that wife and I will live to see a vaccine in time to cruise in 2022; and that, instead of our regular cruise, it will be a luxury cruise since we will have three times as much money available to spend!

I like the way you think! We had to take 2020 off anyways and cancelled 2021 early on. Right now we're in Aqua Class for 2022 but we might celebrate after all in the Retreat.

First off, generally when someone posts a winking smiley face (😉) people understand that the post is at least somewhat jocular.

But to respond to your post, I am a little annoyed when I/we are told to "stand with" or "support" a huge multi-billion corporation like it is a high school football team with a losing season.  The cruise lines did not ask for this mess, I couldn't agree more, but lots of their actions leading up to it (and in response to it) are responsible for their current situation.  Huge, massive profits that they plowed into stock buybacks and dividends instead of shoring up their financial footing.  And now they have to go deep into the borrowing well and still, nearly 2 months later, not refunded me a dime of what is owed.

I feel that the close to half million dollars I have put in cruise lines pockets over the years more than qualifies me to look at them with a realistic (and sometimes pessimistic, frankly) eye.

If they had multi-billions of dollars laying around in a bank you and everyone else would already have their refunds. Did you put half a million dollars into the cruise lines pockets as charity, or did they give you half a million dollars worth of vacations? I'll never be able to enjoy that much time at sea, and would only wish to have your problem.

Likewise.  They have a full payment plus 4 additional deposits, over $8k with just =X=.  Lots more factoring in Azamara and RCL.

There should be an unwritten CC law:  No cheerleading unless you have skin in the game. 😉

I am not cheerleading. We need more optimism and some realism about how the cruise industry always bounces back. No skin in the game? I have a $900 deposit on Silhouette March 2022. I put skin in the game AFTER this all broke out.

It's such a shame when one has to look positively on ones favourite cruiseline at the expense of others. Mistakes by Princess?  Possible failure of Oceania. It could just as well be Celebrity. We are all in this together. It's not a time to gloat.

    Phil

Some of these other lines are full of Debbie Downers, just look at their forums.  I don't want anyone to fail but we can't save them all.  Looking positively at Celebrity should inspire them, not be at their expense.

  10. Great Recession - 9/11 - Costa Concordia - Carnival Triumph, all brought out the naysayers.  It is only the optimists that push ahead and the realists benefit from our perseverance.  We benefit from them too, after things are back on track and they can figure out all the fine details.

  11. Sometime soon this will all seem like a bad memory.  X will return to the high seas at competitive prices, more customers, or more luxury if lines like Oceania fail.  I believe we will survive and thrive as a valuable asset to RCL.  I believe all your refund issues will be solved - we just need patience.  I believe Celebrity will be vindicated compared to the mistakes made by lines like Princess.  Who will be standing with X after this Covid-19 situation is over?

As soon as they are cleared to sail they will be getting money from me! 🙂 I am ready to go anytime this year and hope they at least offer some Caribbean itineraries in the fall.

I am happy to support Celebrity as much as I can after all the great memories they have provided me.

Same I'm just waiting for the official clear from the CDC and I smell a B2B coming my way.
