Santos has an interesting coffee museum. If you want to go to a nice beach, head to Guarujá. I remember it from the 1960's before it was built up, but the beach is still lovely. Aside from the usual stops in Rio, be sure to go to the botanical gardens. If you have time, go across the harbor to Niterói. The Contemporary Art Museum is a wonderful piece of architecture designed by Oscar Neimeyer. You can go east beyond Niteroi for spectacular views of Rio across the harbor. In both Santos and Niterói there are places where the hang gliders jump off the hill - not for the faint of heart.

That is what I felt like putting on my wet suit - backwards! By the time I got it off and put it back on correctly, I was too tired to snorkel!

I keep a daily brief diary and list of shore excursions, memorable meals and a full itinerary with flight numbers and flight equipment. I generally take photos of the airplane seats for future reference. My father travelled with two 16mm movie cameras. When he got home, he would edit about a mile of film, add titles, a spoken commentary and appropriate music to his movies. It took him months to produce about a one hour movie. Unfortunately, we never got them transferred to video, so I fear they would be ruined if we tried now 40 years later. He would have loved today's technology. He also travelled with a portable typewriter and wrote the Daily Digest which has become a great source of information for our current day travels.

DaveyWavey - Have you considered trying out the new Crystal now owned by the former Chairman of Silversea. His best buddy and former Senior Cruise Director Fernando has also made the switch to Crystal. While Fernando is not doing CD duties most of the time, he is involved with certain aspects of the Crystal experience. It sounds like they have done a good job with the takeover.
