    I was only a Holland America cruiser till last cruise, went for local port departure on Royal Caribbean, this past September. Not again, no quiet spots to do reading email or looking out on the sea. If I wanted to read it was back to the room. I think Holland America is the line for you. Local departure port wasn't for us.     I too have Battled seasickness. I took a Bonine,and it was fine. Also I used wristbands also when we did whale watching . yes midship and main deck the best. Enjoy Alaska is wonderful
