Not keen on servers and barstaff walking round with just tshirts on saying crew that's going ot be great trying to spot them when passengers are onboard....

That video was shot before Virgin had formally taken possession of the ship. I don't think those were official uniforms.

SO let me get this straight... this luggage, and contents,  that has been in a cabin with a corona virus infected passenger for several weeks is now just floating around a US parking lot somewhere? Am I being overly paranoid or does anyone else see a problem with this?

Honestly, it sounds really improbable to me, and after this:

"The husband was the one who reportedly had been lobbying a local congressman to have the US send a plane for them."

... it makes me have serious doubts about the veracity of the 'abandoned in a parking lot' claim. It asks us to believe a lot of things, including that some airport worker or driver in the US would somehow know whose luggage it was, and then freak out do the least responsible thing possible, just leaving it in a parking lot.

In other words, until proven otherwise, I feel like this is an attention-grab.

I have said all along that once the outbreak was detected onboard the ship the entire ships company should have been disembarked on a nationality by nationality basis and placed into the quarantine period either in Japan or in their home country or in Japan. The response of Japan has been very poor on this.

How the heck were they going to get everyone to their home country without infecting more people along the way?

I pinged one of the travel reporters who is going onboard in Dover to ask about the app if he thinks about it. I'll let you all know if he replies.

Thanks! I tweeted at Virgin a few days ago, and they said something like “call us to book shore things!”.

Since I wasn’t trying to book shore things, I let it slide. 🙂

I’m not too worried about it, I mostly just want to get a drag brunch booked.

Yes but the ship isn't sailing with the public on board for a little while yet. It may or may not be active yet for the Sneak Preview cruises.

The app doesn't have to be available until it's time for the first official cruise.

The last time I checked earlier today, March 26’s button to book onboard experiences still isn’t working.

The death rate outside of China also points to this, with only 5/989 cases being fatal so far.

I'd been worrying slightly about the fact that very few of the US cases have switched over to 'resolved', especially that couple in San Benito who had reportedly gotten worse, but apparently the US is just monitoring people very closely for an extended period before they consider them resolved. And protecting their identities, which is probably a good idea in the Age of Hysteria.

The San Francisco Department of Public Health said Friday the couple were discharged from UCSF “in good health,” but did not indicate whether they had been cleared to resume their normal lives.

Kathy49 - Where did you get the information that David and Sally Abel tested positive.

Apologies for the tabloid source. (Son wants the UK to do a special trip to pick up just his parents, apparently.)

Some "EXPERTS" are going to have to answer some alkward questions when this is all over.

I say experts, I wouldn't trust most of them to run a bath for me.

Answer what questions? This was an unprecedented situation with a new disease, and while lots of people here have spoken confidently about how things should have been done differently, most of those people aren't even in agreement with each other about the specifics.

And for the spooky 'we'll never know how many are dead in China' stuff, it's 2020, everyone has a cellphone and an online presence, and it's actually quite difficult to hide the fact of hundreds or thousands of dead bodies lying around.

  9. I think this is newish text added to the page with the drinks pricing:

    Cheers to fair pricing.

We heard you, Sailors. No complicated drinks packages with unreasonable rules here. Just good value for all.

They've also added some more booze types to "cocktails": Herradura Plata, Mount Gay, Tanqueray, Jack Daniels

This implies that they did some market research on what people wanted.

Offer was to pay base salary for two months (not full pay)

For those on the contact, they wud have to pay that any way when ship is non operable.

I, personally, wud not change my opinion on Princess one way or other based on this "offer".

After all, Princess itself did not try to make a big deal out of it.

    https://crew-center.com/diamond-princess-crew-get-two-months-paid-time

The letter signed by Jan Swartz, Group President of Princess Cruises and Carnival Australia, reads:

“We are deeply grateful and incredibly proud of all of you. We understand that each of you are under great stress in this extraordinary situation, and we hope you are taking some time to speak with your family and friends - as well as reaching out to our Crew Assistance resources.

We have been working to determine how we can best support you once we are past this difficult time. You deserve, and will need, a break. So, we offer you two months of paid time off. This will include your salary and any average gratuities you may normally receive.

We strongly encourage you to use the paid time off for much needed rest. If you decide to leave when the quarantine and later choose to rejoin a ship before the two months pass, you will still receive this extra pay.
