  1. Unfortunately, they don't taste the same. Coke Lite has a nasty after taste.:( They sell this in the Mexico and parts of the Caribbean too. I may have to stock up with a few before our trip in Feb.

I agree. On my first trip overseas, I had a fountain "diet coke" in the Rome airport. I could have sworn they gave me regular cup. I was very upset and they didn't seem to care. LOL (really, really needed a diet coke after that long flight). Then later in the day I went to market and bought a "coca cola light" in a can. I was soooo happy..until I tasted it. That terrible aftertaste. Yuck! I can tell you the first thing I had when I hit the states!

Since then, whenever I see it, I get tea or something else. It is not good for those of us who are Diet Coke addicts. I think they use some other type of sweetener causing the after taste, not sure.

  2. Sunday - Day 10 - October 14, 2012

The satellite link was down last night and has been down since 4 am yesterday morning (Ship’s Time) and without it the internet is unavailable, cell phones don’t work, and the ATMs don’t work. TV reception is also affected. People can’t print out boarding passes for their flights home and the Loyalty Ambassadors cannot book future cruises.

In short we are sort of isolated electronically.

    Woo Hoo--You're Back! YAY!

  3. I just read the latest update. It seems this is right in the path of where the ship should be now? Or would they still be quite a bit south of the baja?

MIAMI (AP) — Hurricane Paul is strengthening in the Pacific off Mexico and a tropical storm watch has been issued for a portion of Baja California.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Paul’s maximum sustained winds were 80 mph (130 kph) early Monday. Some additional strengthening is forecast during the day before weakening is expected Tuesday.

It’s centered about 530 miles (850 kilometers) southwest of the tip of the Baja California peninsula and moving north at 9 mph (15 kph

  4. I prefer the pre-printed mailed tags that they sent. They're pretty and seem more secure.

That being said, on the 2 Princess cruises I have had in the last year, they have been self print. So, I print my ugly black/white tag. I fold it as instructed, then fold it over my handle and staple a billion times. Both cruises it has held up and not been torn off. I would have that the concerns with them being easily ripped off were valid until I've witnessed it differently on other lines.

Again, I appreciated the pretty ones they sent, but since they aren't doing that anymore, I will print my own--and lose the concern with them being ripped off before arriving to me cabin.

  5. The teak chaise loungers on the Promenade were one of my FAVORITE things on the Diamond Princess last year. I am soooo looking forward to them on the Sapphire in a few weeks. I didn't encounter any broken ones, so maybe I was lucky. Hopefully I'll be lucky again.

I truly missed them when I went on RCI earlier this year. They just had the plastic chairs with straps. I hate those chairs and really wished they would do the same as princess. It is one of those differences that I enjoy!

  6. Hi Reney313,

Just thought I would pass on the the beautiful Norway was not actually left to break up in the waves. She was towed to Alang in India where she was slowly and methodically cut apart until there was nothing left of the grand lady.

Really a tragic end for such a beautiful ship.

    Angelo

Thanks....last I had looked a few years back, it seems there was a picture of her laid up against the beach. I prefer to know she was cut up (seems a little more respectful, I guess).

  7. We were booked on the SS Norway for her "Farewell Cruise" in August of 2001. I think they were going to move her from the Caribbean where she had been for many years to Europe. There were 2 Farewell Cruises, 1 for the Eastern and 1 for the Western C. We had booked the Western C but were diverted when we got to port due to a Tropical Storm in the West. Then we ended up running into another Tropical Storm on the East. We missed St. Maarten so only had 2 ports on the 7 days (St. Thomas and the private island).

After 9/11 just a few weeks after our cruise, they decided to keep her around as there was a push for more American home ports.

This was my first 7 day cruise. It was also my mom's first (and only) cruise sometime around 1984, I think...and my dad's first cruise with my step mom around 1987. We all miss the old lady. Such as a shame she ended up being scrap and left to break up by the waves.

  8. I am surprised about the #'s of D+. It does seem like everyone posting on CC is at that level (except me). I was shocked when I was on the Monarch at the return party that they said there only around 50 platinum, 30 Diamond and 20 Diamond Plus. Seemed like a very low # to me especially as it was the first cruise date for the Dec Diamond Event and with so many High Tier folks living in Florida, figured there would be more.

  9. The OP has every right to air his opinion on this subject. I don't think it ruined the cruise for him, but he values customer service and if he feels that the line did not provide any service, then that is his opinion. I, for one, am happy he posted as I wasn't aware that they would cancel a game if not enough showed up to make it "profitable". As to someone else's reply, they certainly don't increase the pay out if they bring in more than the payout. (at least I would agree, but I don't play Bingo on the ship either so maybe they do?)

On that note, I do think it would be worthy for the OP to send a letter of his experience. It seems at the very least, the game should go one for those that do show up, and the suite upgrade provided. (and split the pot for what is collected). That really doesn't 'cost' them anything.

I shouldn't be surprised how many people jumped on this poster for what he feels is bad service. It wouldn't have bothered me, but that's not relevant to his complaint.

  10. My late husband won the finals once and got runner up a second time. He sang mostly Neil Diamond (I am I said and Sweet Caroline) and then when he sang with the band he sang off a list of 10 choices. I think John Mellencamp was on there, which he sang. I also recall Turn the Page (Bob Seger) and Sittin' on the dock of the Bay (Otis Redding). The lists were huge to choose from but you have to have an idea of artist or it's hard to find what you like.

I, on the other hand, cannot sing so never tried any songs...
