  1. Thanks Kate!

Those ideas are great and will probably fill up our day. Looking at those links I assume the ferry is 20 min to Woodside/Wirral and the UBoat place is right there where we get off the ferry. Take a few hours around there and the area then allow 20 min for the ferry ride back. Is the ferry terminal real close to where the ship docks at Pier Head?

The war museum seems interesting too. Where is it in relation to the pier Head dock?

Still open to other ideas, but have to leave a little time for shopping, of course!

Unfortunately the war museum is closed on Sunday and Friday. If you are here on a different day, it's just behind the town hall which is in Castle Street, about 5-10 minutes walk from the cruise terminal. It's not a big place but very interesting.

Not sure how long you'd need for the u-boat story, as I'm sorry to say I haven't been- despite living approx 3 miles away! The ferry appears to take a little longer going back to Liverpool- half an hour! The museum of Liverpool (next to the Pier Head, and free admission) has a very nice gift shop. Also shops in the Albert Dock, (specialist/ souvenier), and across the main road in Liverpool One (a lot of high-street chains)

  2. Hello. Welcome to Liverpool! There will be lots open on a Sunday, if that is the the day of your visit.

Because of your interest in WW2 I was going to suggest the Western Approaches museum- but unfortunately that is closed on Sundays! You might find this interesting though

Also, there is the U-boat story on the Wirral side of the Mersey

I don't think the ferries run their normal service at the weekends, but concentrate on the tourist trips (which of course are a bit more expensive!) It looks like you can combine the ferry cost with the U-boat story.

  3. We started and finished our cruises in Thessaloniki in 2007,2008 and 2009, as well as having a mid-cruise change round day there each time. Just in those 3 years we saw lots of development in the city and really enjoyed exploring it. Unfortunately the line (Thomson cruises) no longer go from there.

I had a quick look and only found 2 lines calling there this year- Swan Hellenic, with a cruise that calls there in September, and Aida, a German cruise line, that calls there at least twice during the summer. hope you find something,

  4. We didn't find much of note in the Constanta area, a lot of warships and a rather dilapidated town, with some beaches nearby.

Nessebar is a UNESCO world heritage site, and a port where you can step off the ship straight into town (larger ships may tender here) It's certainly worth a few hours just enjoying the churches, ruins and unusual buildings in this quaint cobbled - street town, but beware lots of cheap tat on sale!

  5. I think Olympia is too good to miss, really. The site and scenery are stunning.

There IS a beach at Katokolon, we saw quite a few people (not from ship) going there when we took the train, they were using the next station after Katakolon. Couldn't see it closely enough to say what it's like.

  6. It's worth going up to the castle- doesn't look much from below, but really nice when you get up there, and great views. There is a lift up from right opposite the beach. Just below the castle, there is an "old town" of charming whitewashed houses in stepped streets full of flowers. Near the cathedral are some very good restaurants and food/ confectionary shops. The beach is good, if you walk along the promenade you can check out the "pensioners playground" of keep fit equipment on the beach! A stroll along the shady esplanade is good in the heat- there are restaurants and stalls along the way.
