Well I have taken the plunge and booked a suite for a two week cruise (R406 Caladonia suite) on Azura, we opted for mid ship in the end as my OH isn't the best traveller, it looks in a fair location on the mid ship stairs and lifts, only snag may be being directly below lido deck but we shall give it a whirl, has anybody stayed in these mid ship suites on Riviera deck? there doesn't appear to be many Youtube cabin tours which is a shame but I like the look of the layout on Cruise Mapper, I think the sun on these suites will be minimal given the overhang covers all of the balcony but we will make the most of it. Thanks for all your advice.

Hello again, ozzysdad! I promised you a review of R406 back in January, so here it is.

We're half way through our holiday on Azura and about to set off from Malta to the Canaries.

The cabin has been fantastic. The amount of space more than makes up for any shortcomings. The furniture, carpets and curtains are all in good order and possibly new from the last refit. The balcony furniture, however is looking a bit worse for wear.

As for noise, there does tend to be a bit of stamping, scraping and rumbling from above in the mornings and evenings but nothing excessive. There was a bit of loud music filtering down from the lido on yesterday's sea day but I slept through most of it!

Anil, our butler has been very good. Very quick to sort out any problems. Currently waiting for an engineer to come and fix the air-conditioning.

There is a good WiFi connection in most of the cabin so the 'app' should work well.

If you have any specific questions please feel free to ask. We're here for another 9 nights.

  2. We're flying out from Gatwick with TUI in 4 weeks time for our first fly cruise and I've been tracking our flight too. We're due in at 1755 but I've noticed it's often delayed. Yesterday it didn't touch down until 2030!

It would be annoying to miss the first dinner but I'm sure they won't let us go hungry, even if it is just the buffet. Personally I'd prefer that to having to get up at stupid o'clock in the morning for an earlier flight.

  3. Going on Azura for my first fly cruise next month. I'm assuming that if we don't book our £17.50 seats they will be allocated at some point for free.

Call me silly, but when I book a cruise that states flights included, I don't expect to have to pay another £70 for said flights.

I had bought 100 shared recently as I thought it was worth the risk as the price is lower than it has been and have a couple of cruises booked, I had to wait 1 month to get a statement from Freetrade who I used to buy them. Emailed the statement to shareholderbenefits@carnivalukgroup.com and then a week later had the OBC applied to all cruises I had previously booked up to July 2023. You just need to give them your booking ref, ship and date of sailing.

    Hope that helps.

With Freetrade I used a screenshot of the "Market buy contract note" that I got when I bought the shares. Seemed to do the trick.

  5. No sign of extra OBC for my October Azura 16 nighter. However an extra £150 would take our OBC up to £620. Take that away from our total price and it would work out at £100 pppn in a B2 suite.

At that price I would definitely have cause to think twice before complaining about standards!

I wish that I'd gone to schools where the food was of a similar standard to P&O MDRs.

Lol! It was a lunch time that prompted that comment about school dinners. I actually enjoyed the sausage and mash! To be fair the evening offerings we're much better, especially on the formal night.

  7. On board Britannia now. (and a little drunk, sorry!). I stressed far too much about the testing etc before boarding but it turned out to be very easy. Arrived at Southampton at 1230 and was onboard by 1300. Onboard the food in the MDR is perfectly edible but limited and more like school dinners. The buffet selection is the best I've seen on P&O in my limited experience, really did suprise me. 2 of our party went to the Glass House last night and had a really good meal.

Black tie tonight and most seem to be joining in.

  8. I'm on board at the moment and as far as I can tell they are not available, however I'm not 100% sure

I think some, if not all, of the launderettes are towards the back of the ship and due to the isolation cabins this has become a difficult area to negotiate. As such we have been avoiding it!

Black tie tonight though so I might have to go in search of an iron.

  9. Just completed the at home Randox test for Britannia tomorrow. Pleased to say we both tested negative and received our certificates within 10 minutes of submission despite doing it at 9pm.

I have the app on an Android phone and while I worked it all out eventually, I didn't find the process as clear as it could have been. Caused a bit more stress than I would have liked.

  10. I also had mine re-taken for a Cunard cruise last September. Can't say I blame them. I looked like I'd just been arrested for shoplifting!

I think they only ask us to upload photos so they can have a bit of laugh at our inevitably ugly mugshots!

Don't lose any sleep over this. There will be no problems having it done at the terminal.

  11. One of my cruise party for Britannia on the 29th April did a dummy run of the £11 Randox test yesterday.

He's not the most tech savvy, (needed me to guide him through the online check-in) but he said he found the whole process fairly straightforward.

His only concern was that the certificate didn't mention 'fit to fly' or travel. However a phone call to P&O assured him it was the correct certificate.

We booked our October departure on launch day, so are wondering if that will mean we are more likely to be booked on a charter flight.  Does anyone know if that is normally the case?  Also, if we are placed on a 6am departure time for our flight, are P&O likely to allow us to take our own flight out (which we could couple with a few days on a hotel booked independently), yet still retain our return P&O flight from Tenerife?

Any thoughts on that would be very much appreciated, I am aware that P&O do not give a refund if flights are not used, but we would still like to use the return flights.

Our flight to Malta on the 6th October looks like a TUI charter from Gatwick leaving at 1350.

The return from Tenerife on the 22nd is listed as 1130 but no airline details yet.

When are you going? I have that exact suite booked for 16 nights in October this year.
