  1. And you think I read some obscure mag to find out how I and OH should dress.

We dress what we are comfortable in. We are smart.

Should be interesting when we board ..I will wait to be amazed by the sartorial elegance of everyone on board.

Unless horrors of horrors, we are just on a rather nice cruise ship and the other cruisers are normal and wear smart clothes , and don't read GQ (probably not even heard of it ) to know what colour jacket they should or should not wear.

    He will look fine :)

  2. The last time I spoke to Sir Les, he told me that he wouldn't be travelling on QM2 any more. Apparently, there are far too many Brits wearing off-white dinner jackets in their cold climate for his liking. I told him that he should go a bit easy on them - many are still mourning the loss of the Raj and will do almost anything to get some sense of self respect back - and besides, what with the weather in British waters, whenever would they get a chance to wear their off-white dinner jackets. To be fair, he should give them a fair suck of the saveloy!!!

Im of too see him tonight in Bristol (land of Culture) if I get back safe and sound I will bring a reply from him lol, not sure if I print it on here though.

Barry, I will be thinking of you tonight as I wave my gladdioli in the audiance :)

  3. I am a casual type American. Nevertheless, I have been on many cruises and try to conform to cruiseline dress code policies. I'd like to clarify your questions a little, and maybe offer my opinionated answers.

First of all, you are definitely in the correct place. This is where questions related to cruising are welcome and this area in particular to Cunard. Now to the meat of the matter.

Your initial question words are "can men", implying "are men able to", phisically able to. (at least in the U.S.) Of course, the answer is yes. If you meant "may men", the answer gets a little trickier.

Asking the question on cruise critic might mean you are looking for the experienced Cunarders to answer. Or are you looking for Cunard's answer, as known by us Cruise Criticers.

Cunard written dress code policy does not specify color of DJ. The upper echelon of Cunard cruisers you've heard from here. Heaven forbid anything but black.

As far as most of the rest of us are concerned, you are not 'wrong' in any case. As far as those whose pinky fingers are pointed skyward, who cares what they think?

Did you imagine in your mind stares and giggles and finger pointing if yor wore your white DJ and you were wrong? Shame on the snobs if they do.

Have a great cruise! Everyone, have a great cruise! Let's all just look good when we clean up for dinner! Seriously!

I realize my post is pointless and useless. But it was fun composing. My favorite post before mine was the flying fig post. Really, color of your dinner jacket? Wrong? C'mon, aren't you going on vacation?

Very well said:) Cruise Criticers:) Not thought of that ,

also please nore that out 2600 there will only mayve 20 CC members and maybe 2 Cruise Criticers:)

  4. Thanks that answers my query

May i assure you that there in NOTHING wrong with a white, Cream or indeed Ivory jacket, you wont be alone wearing on, most will be black Tux and you will see quite a few white/cream jackets as well , also many dark suits.

you however on here incur the wrath of the fashion police as always, many who will tell whats right and wrong but only sail once in a while.

if you have a white jacket then take it and wear and injoy YOUR cruise opps Voyage:) I promise you , you will be fine, My last Voyage on QM2 in January had white, opps cream jackets being worn at the seniors offices party, these are diamond members, trust many many of fashion police are not even diamond:cool:.

Remeber its your cruise, your holiday and you have fun

  5. Yes, but we are running out of options. There does seem to be a great homogenization going on in the industry. If it is Tuesday, this must be Belgium.:D

This is so sadly true, Cunard need to open up more ports and countries , other than the world cruise, we have to take other lines, however RCL and celebrity are also good lines with some great deals

  6. Looking forward to our fifth voyage with Cunard. Do Cruise Critic members get together for meet and greets during different segments of world voyages. We will be getting on in Brisbane for the two week trip to Japan.

    regards

    Kerin

Yes they, on almost all the segments of the voyage, almost always in the Commodore club around 2pm,

  7. Recently returned from 22 nights aboard Queen Victoria. Some of the dance hosts obviously lacked the ability to dance to any reasonable degree of competence but with a couple of others it was hard to tell because they were often saddled with ladies whose knowledge of ballroom dancing was minimal. Couple this with a busy floor, a dance band not always blessed with a broad knowledge of dancers' tempo requirements, a vocalist with a nice personality but not aware that she should sing in the tempo of the dance - and one cannot help but have some sympathy with a couple of the dance hosts. And the reality was that, for good dancers, the dance floor held little appeal.

However, it was a popular place for the plodders and those who get round in some sort of fashion once a blue moon. But that's the story on most ships' dance floors - a bit of good social fun but never to be taken seriously.

I dont think the dancers are professional and the ballroom is for anyone to dance good or bad, its all about fun , the escorts are there to help and encourage the plodders and from I see the band has always been amazing

  8. I did a cruise round Australia a year ago, you just a apply online for a visa, it will come in an instant and will cover you for the whole cruise as well, you dont need to show at any of the ports of call either, we just showed it at the entry airport (Perth) and that was it, eve after returning from New Zealand we didnt show it

  9. I, now, always check under the bed. A few years ago I found a suitcase. I assumed that they bought new "designer" luggage in the Caribbean and left theirs behind. I also have to assume that they really don't vacuum under the bed. :D

They dont vaccum a lot under the beds, you can find alsorts under them, nor do they clean around the art work on the walls or behind the TV :)

and once on QE I found someones medication left in a draw at the side of the bed

  10. Oh dear, I grew up around Freo and shame there may be boarding issues. I will definitely dress casual. Thanks for the heads up and nice to know.

I hope it is better you, get there early, they made walk along the road, up onto that platform, along the platform and into the terminal, then it was fine,

if your getting off in Sydney, they are worse, all our bags, 100s of the were carried off one by one by what we found out were local students, It was entertaining if nothing else

  11. I have boarded many Cunard ship saround the world, I can assure you 100% that yon wear just what ever you want to wear, you will see when your there, In freemantle is the heat and in the crazy free for all cruise terminal , shorts and t shirt will be the order of the day.

On my first ever voyage, a crossing we were told to wear a suit for debark, we did, it was a heat wave, could not get it off fast enough.

so you will see shorts or jean and t shirts, same during the day on the ship:)

I can tell you that freemantle a crazy terminal, we had to line up outside just to get in and on a narrow platform and then up some stairs, it was very , very hot and very disorganised

  12. I also don't believe that there is any kind of class system on Cunard ships- just a system whereby people are able to choose the standard/grade of accommodation and dining on board that they want and are willing to pay for.

I also like the idea of separate dining rooms for Princess and Queens grill passengers-- that way, I know where they are!!! :)

    Barry

    Too funny:):):D

  13. I can say from my experience on Cunard

That I have meet respectful , with class,

    Interesting.

    Also when I sail, I leave my"baggage at home":D

Yes I have as many, many times, however it does not apply to everyone, there are times , well there are times
