I may have missed this feature, but I did not see anywhere on the interactive monitors where you could scan a card and when you selected the dining feature, it told you where it was located. I didn't see an option to select anything else. Is that a feature on the Viva and not Prima?

I thought the feature is fleet-wide.  Perhaps not every monitor, but there are electronic touch screens by most elevators which will allow you to book a reservation.  Shows, dining, darts on the Prima, etc.

You seem to be correct.  There are a few of them on CC.  I guess I always look for the best in other people, so when someone acts like a troll, offers snide remarks in response to an earnest question from someone else seeking advice from other CC members, or tries to be "just so cute" with their postings, my first reaction is to assume that they are being genuine, honest, and forthright with their response.  So, yes, sometimes responses like that tend to slide by me.  It now seems that @n4w thinks that by warning others away from a cruise which he plans to take that he will find himself sailing on a less-than-full-to-capacity ship.

It's Friday, it was a joke, and not heavily disguised.  Lighten up.  Do I believe these efforts will succeed - of course not.  After seeing so many posts from you I'm most surprised of the offense you in particular are taking.  Nevermind then, sorry I entered your sandbox, sorry I didn't see your rules.

    Snide remarks?  What snide remarks?

Traveling Man:  I am pretty sure that n4w is a troll.  If he/she is, it is the first time I have recognized one on any of my posts, although admittedly I have not been active on CruiseCritic for very long.

Not a troll, it just went over your head.  I'm advocating a less crowded cruise for myself in July.  Jeez.  Try reading the responses again.

Do you mind being a little more specific about you think why March 2025 MAY not be bad, but July 2025 is DEFINITELY bad?  Is that because of the specific itinerary for the July trip, or because of your opinion of the Breakaway itself/  If it is the Breakaway itself that make you say that, then I suggest that you look back at almost any response I have had to my original post, who almost universally speak well, if not very highly of the Breakaway.

Spread the word that July 2025 is especially super duper definitely bad.  No cookies or hash browns.  Extra taxes and gratuities.  Minors in their own cabins. Stolen luggage. Guaranteed BOGO air problems. Weather too rough for GSC.  Be like the CruiseNext desk and tell 'em anything.

I'm trying to make my July 2025 Breakaway cruise less crowded.  Anyone pondering about a mid summer cruise (Venice to Barcelona) should really consider Alaska instead.

More specifically, July 3, 2025 Breakaway = very, very bad.  Any other ship or itinerary, great choice.

Like I said, I'll report back after to let you know if people heeded the warnings 😉.

Is the NCL Breakaway potentially as bad a choice for us to take as seniors, as the reviews here on Cruise Critic make it sound?

Not sure about March 2025, but July 2025 -- HORRIBLE CHOICE!!!  Tell everyone you know already booked or thinking about booking the Breakaway in July 2025 to absolutely stay away.  Make up stuff if you have to, make stuff up about the stuff you make up even.

I'll report back after to let you know if people heeded the warnings 😉.

I might have missed it, but is there a reason you are waiting till you get on the ship?  You can book ahead of time from website or app.   The people you are competing with for reservations at busy restaurants are getting the drop on you.

pre-board reservations are limited and best times are taken.  Additional availability open up aboard.

We'll be sailing on the Prima on the 5th of April and had the same question. I asked it in another thread but didn't get a response. Anyway thanks for your response but I couldn't be more confused. I have read different posts all with different answers. I then called NCL and they were less than helpful, suggesting I go to the restaurants after 5 PM or call from my room. Right, both of those would yield absolutely nothing, one being too late and the other waiting on hold or busy forever. I hope your recollection is correct. Thanks again.

You can also make reservations from the interactive monitors near the elevators and stairs, just need your keycard to swipe.  Reservations can also be made from your cabin TV.  Since you may not immediately have access to your cabin, and lines become long on boarding day, your best bet is to do it yourself at one of the touchscreens.

we would have had to pay $4000 for them, with $2000 of that being posted to our shipboard account as nonrefundable OBC.

2 hours ago, Ken the cruiser said:

What happens if you don't spend that $2000 of nonrefundable OBC before the cruise ends?

You pay $4k to earn $2k.  If you've earned the $2k, it means you've already spent more than enough before the cruise ends.  The $2k nonrefundable OBC earned here CAN be applied against the CruiseNext purchases, whereas nonrefundable OBC coming from someplace else (travel agents or shareholder benefit) cannot be used towards CruiseNext purchases.

I have been looking at the NCL Getaway 10 day cruise that departs June 6th from Southampton. The price is great for my husband and two older teens. I am hesitant to book because it’s such a good deal. 🤣 It’s been a bit since we cruised - is there something I’m missing about the ship, itinerary, weather, NCL, ports, something else?? Or is it just a great deal and we should go for it? Thanks!!

It's WAY down from the price on Oct 4, 2023, but appears hasn't fluctuated that much.  The price history for this trip:

10 day cruise on the Norwegian Getaway (Norwegian)

Departs from London (Southampton), Great Britain on Thu Jun 6, 2024

Ends in Barcelona, Spain on Sun Jun 16, 2024

  10. I find that there at least are 5 different things at play that commonly get mixed up with one another:

    1. iMessaging - associated with iPhones, can use when connected to ship intranet, internet not needed.  Nothing needed other than a digital connection between the two (onboard, it's the ship's intranet - connect to the ship, wifi not needed).

    2. the NCL app - is an app you get from the app store, log in to the same NCL account as you would from computer.  (Installing the app on your phone and a someone else's phone and then logging in with the same ID won't work well for you).

    3. ship's intranet - put your phone on airplane mode and connect to the ship to utilize iMessaging; at no cost, you can access your onboard account, ship info, reservations, dailies.

    4. internet package (wifi you pay for: FAS, upgraded, unlimited. etc) - slow slow slow internet, must log in to use, if you don't have unlimited, be sure to log out or your clock keeps running even if your not using it.

    5. NCL's $10 per device service that allows different devices to communicate with each other.

The NCL app (#2) requires an account, and I don't think it will work on two devices at the same time, one will get booted.

I forget if you need the NCL app (#2) in order to access the dailies and your account onboard account or if there's a way to access the onboard info from the intranet (#3) only.

I forget if you need the NCL app (#2) or if there's a separate app to utilize the $10 per device to communicate with each other function.

The one thing that they have in common is that they are not all reliable as they all rely on being connected tot he ship, and I've found you have to constantly check to make sure you're connected since you get disconnected often.  Which means in order for my kid and I to communicate (since he's always off with his Entourage group) my phone has to be connected and so does his.  We're both constantly checking otherwise messages won't get delivered.

I use Android and he has an iPhone.  First time, we paid the $10pp.  Experience (connectivity) was not great, especially with the price.  Since then, I bring an old backup iPhone so we can iMessage for free.  I have an account, he doesn't - I can see the dailies and onboard account, while he has no need to.  I have him take pics of the Entourage schedule and schedule from the paper dailies delivered each night.

  11. All the photos are staged shots, none are "candid."  There will be a handful of locations in front of backdrops or some ship architecture (staircase) nightly.  There will be a port photo at each port, there will be some roped off areas for glaciers (Alaska itineraries) and perhaps others on other itineraries (Panama Canal transit).  You might be able to stop a photographer passing by with their camera.

As for the digital prints, this package gets you 10 (the welcome aboard and route map pics and the 8 others that you choose).  Yes, they will sell you $20 each (print plus digital copy).  I've seen some of your posts in recent threads, I believe you will end up disappointed if you buy this package.

Take as many photos with their photographers as you wish. Go to the photo gallery and pick out the best ones is how it works.  They take the pics and ask you for your room number so they can be filed for retrieval.  They also have packages to sell you onboard, those are marginally better than this package, IMO.

I am trying to get seat information for the NCL flight on Delta we booked. It did not show on the Delta website. Is there another place to check seat information or do I have to call NCL? Thanks for the help.

Locate the conf #'s listed on the info NCL sent you, go to Delta's website, find your reservation using your name and conf #'s, select your seat(s) unless you like the ones auto-assigned to you.  If you have to call, call Delta.  Calling NCL for seats is a dead end.

  13. NCL has a final payment schedule also, so you don't have to pay in full today.  I wouldn't sweat giving NCL a chance to earn money, it's not out of your pocket and they're not making a lot on the $380.  The airfare is not included either; if they took it off, it's only because you added it on previously.

Thank you for the replies so far. I excluded Bliss as I did not want to fly to west coast from East coast.

I was going to suggest something similar, let your other dollars decide (port fees & taxes, hotel and travel expenses, etc.)  Other people's opinions are theirs, only you can decide for yourself - so at this point, all things are fairly equal.  Consider how the total dollars stack up.

You can rationalize it any way you want, if 1 person is $500 and 2 people is $1000, the 2nd person is not free. No where does it say the solo is getting half price. For the solo traveler, good for them they are getting it discounted, but it’s not worded or shown that way on their website.

You're not understanding properly, person 1 is not $500, he's $1000.  If he travels alone, he's given a 50% discount so he then pays only $500 for his $1000 fare.  2nd person is free when the travel partners pay $1000 for person 1 and nothing for the 2nd person = BOGO.

and you're wrong, if you look at the terms and conditions, you'll see that the solo is getting half price:
