  1. Any suggestions for tours in Reykjavik City. We have the whole day the day we arrive (6:15 am) before we go on a 3 day tour outside of Reykjavik. Thanks
  2. Mrs f -- Who was your private guide and how did you enjoy him or her? I am looking for recommendations for a private tour guide for 4-6 people for 2 days in Capetown.
  3. Jazzbeau: It may that by law, the MA AG can only represent MA residents.
  4. Cardinal Gal: Are you flying the nonstop from Atlanta on Dec 8 in business class? When we booked the cruise about 3 weeks ago, we were told that there was a $3000 upcharge per person to book the nonstop on Delta. We opted to take the flight credit and book our own flights in Premium Economy, a first for us.Our free days are after the cruise. My wife is a mah jong instructor here in Atlanta at our senior education program. There is at least one other person on the Rollcall for this cruise who also plays mah jong.
  5. Cardinal Gal: We are on the December 13 Regent Seven Seas Capetown to Capetown se, which includes 3 days pre-cruise in Capetown, which is full of tours. We are only free the 2 days after the cruise (Dec 28 -29) and so far have not received any recommendations for day tgours in Capetown. If hear anything, I will let you know on this thread.
  6. While the idea of Vantage remaining silent since April 29 is beyond frustrating, if in fact they are in negotiations for a sale, they will not be saying anything that will jeopardize the sale.Either there is a sale, the terms of which may or may not yield us any money or credits toward a future cruise(s) or we lose it all. At this point, we just have to wait it out.
  7. These lawsuits, which, as Nightflight correctly points out will result in our gwetting little to nothing, in fact probably complicates any potential sale.
  8. We traveled with Vantage 14 times and always found it was the best value for the money. We always stayed at 4 star if not better hotels (Four Seasons in Lisbon and Alexandra). Tour guides were almost always top notch. In fact, when our South Africa trip was canceled last month, we could not find anything comparable to the canceled trip, in terms of length, cost per day or breadth of the experience. What happened to Vantage is a shame for the loyal customers. If a successor company picks up the pieces, is a known quanity and replicates the Vantage experience, we would consider traveling with it.
  9. This is included in the Regent Seven Seas cruise from Capetown to Capetown departing December 13, 2023. The pre-cruise starts December 10.
  10. Loerie: Thank you for replying. I would really appreciate any advice you may have about what to do in Capetown in view of the fact that we will be there pre-cruise for 3 days. We will be there post-cruise December 28-29, 2023. On the pre-cruise,the first day we go to the Winelands, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. The second day we do a safari and the third day we go to the Cape Point Nature Reserve and Boulders Beach.in the morning before boarding the ship. We thought that going to Table Mountain, Robben Island and doing a city tour would be a nice way to round out our time in Capetown. Does the fact that we will be in Capetown at the end of December make any difference as to the we?ather
  11. We are looking for recommendations for full day tours in Capetown. We want one that goes, at a minimum to Table Mountain, Robben Island as well doing a City tour. Any suggesstions are welcome as well as contact information. Thank you.
  12. We received an email from Vantage acknowledging that we had opted for a refund for our cancelled Best of Africa tour, but we filed a dispute with the credit card company anyway as a backup as we do not believe we will see the refund anytime soon. Since Vantage cannot contest that they cancelled and that they promised a refund, we should be able to get a credit on our credit card within the applicable time frame.
  13. I do n ot believe there are any passengers on either ship as they sail to ports in Europe, where they will probably be docked until the owner, Sunstone decides what to do with them.
  14. Go to CruiseMapper.com and enter the ship name for the current position.
  15. I find it interesting that nobody has discussed the Ocean Explorer, which has been in Rekjavik for at least the last 3 days. It does not look like it going to move anytime soon
  16. In view of what Stayce's_Mom just posted about the so-called contract where Vantage claims it does not have to refund for a cancellation, if your trip is cancelled and Vantage offers a refund, make sure you get that offer in writing (via email). Also, if you paid by credit card, file a dispute for failure to provide services with the credit card company.
  17. I find it interesting that nobody has discussed the Ocean Explorer, which has been in Rekjavik for at least the last 3 days. It does not look like it going to move anytime soon
  18. Just learned on Facebook that the Barcelona cruise was cancelled. Most likely the Ocean Odyssey is in the process of being taken back by ther lessor.
  19. A prior post said all passengers were taken off the Ocean Odyssey in Rome. The fact that CruiseMapper shows the next desination to be Gibralter indicates the ship is not heading to what would have been its next destination if the stated itinerary was being followed. I believe the ship may be in the process of being repossessed by the owner. I hate to say it but the chances of your going on the Odyssesy in either July or September are not looking good. My wife and I were supposed to leave for South Africa on Monday and we received our cancellation notice last Monday, even after our plane tickets had been paid for. We had been on 14 prior Vantage, all of which we enjoyed. As I have said before, such a shame as Vantage provided the best value for the money.I researching other South Africa trips, no tour company has anywhere near the same itinerary for anywhere near the same cost. We now need to look for other options for some of the trips we were planning on taking, including on the Ocean Explorer, which we were on last October (Boston to Montreal) and which we really enjoyed,
  20. Does anyone know whether any land or cruise trips are currently going off as scheduled? It appears that all land tours are listed as "sold out" until the Fall, which means they have been cancelled. The Ocean Odyssey is on its way to Gibralter, almost certainly w/o passengers and the Ocean Explorer is currently in Reykajik, Iceland. It will be until at least until September until we know if Vantage survives as a shadow of itself.
  21. I copied the cancellation notice on the day I received it in My Portal and all the notices were gone from My Portal the next day, as was the invoice, which I had copied months ago. On another note, when you go on the Vantage website to look for trips, there is nothing available until the Fall, all others are listed as "sold out" which simply means they have been cancelled. I am doubtful anyone will be on a Vantage tour or cruise ever again. Such a shame as Vantage provided the best value for the money for the 14 prior trips we have taken.
  22. Does anyone know how to join the Zoom meeting scheduled for next Monday -- ironically the day we were supposed to leave for our Best of Africa tour.
  23. Type Vantage Deluxe World Travel Complaints in the search book to find the hundreds of posts.
  24. We received an email from Vantage last night at 9:00 pm to view aessage on My Portfolio. That message read "Unfortunately, Vantage has to cancel your upcoming trip scheduled to Best of Africa." This trip was set to depart on May 22. We received a call this morning from Patrick Dempsey, a long time employee of Vantage who gave us 3 options (1) rebook the same tour in 2003 or 2004 at the same price: (2) deposit the money for a future tour with a 20% enhancement; or (3) receive a full refund. He said the trip weas cancelled due to "operational issues": like hotel contracts, but would not elaborate. We have been on 14 prior Vantage trips, including one of the best ever just last December in Egypt and were looking forward to this Africa trip as we have enjoyed all of our prior Vantage trips. However, with alll the current cancellation, we are very leery about booking with Vantage for any future trips, even with a 20% enhancement. We are very much leaning toward a refund, although it may be a long time coming. If we go that route, and once I get confirmation from Vantage, I will contact the credit card company to see what recourse I may have with them. This is a big disappointment, especially once we saw the tickets had been paid for and all the internal flights had also been ticketed. We honestly believed as of yesterday afternoon that we were going on this trip. I sincerely hope those of you on trips other than on the Ocean Explorer and Ocean Odessey go off as planned, but do not count on it
  25. NightFlight: My wife and I are on the South Africa trip leaving May 22. I will let you how it went when we get back. We did the Kenya/Tanzania tour 10 years ago and loved it. Assuming this upcoming trip goes well (our tour director has already sent 3 emails with a wealth of information and has responded within 1 day to a personal request). I researched all the "upscale" companies doing South Africa and Vantage is still the best bang for the buck if this tour is as good as the Kenya one 10 years ago. I know it hard to gravitate back to Vantage after so many snafus, but we did Egypt with them last December and it was one of the best trips we have ever taken (six star all the way).
