We did Into the Midnight Sun.  Our favorite excursions were the Husky Trek in Tromso, Sea Fishing in Lofoten, and King Crab Safari in Honningsvag.  Nice itinerary, have fun!

How demanding is the Husky Trek?  The description in My Viking Journey says you jog attached to a dog.  I'm very interested in this, but am not a jogger.

  2. We stayed in Cabin 7012 or 7014 on our recent 15-day Mediterranean cruise and loved it!  Never saw anyone from any other 7th deck cabins so it felt like we were on a private cruise.  Steps from the elevators, just a few more steps to Wintergarden, and the pool is just beyond.  We ate at the Word Cafe often ...  just down the deck.  It was well worth the extra cost (over 15 days it was not that much extra).

  3. The Rome excursions will be made available after your cruise leaves it's initial port.  They will provide you with the list on paper and it will also be on your in-room TV screen.  Don't worry about it, Viking will provide excursions.

We are taking this cruise Athens to Istanbul. We have 1 night stay in Istanbul at cruise end and fly out early the next morning.
Has anyone taken this cruise? Or know if a Turkey Visa is required to fly out within 24 hours of cruise end?

We are finding conflicting information on sites. Some say we have 36 hours, others say once we leave ship we have to have a Visa. At $100 each we hate to purchase if not needed.

On MVJ, under Travel Requirements, then under Pre-Departure Information, read the PDF file.  It has info for specific country requirements.  This is the section for Turkey ... read the NOTE:

Turkey - In addition to Viking’s vaccination requirement, please ensure you have the following:

    1. US/CAN/AU Guests Apply for Turkey’s Electronic Visa, (from a maximum of 90 days to a minimum of 48 hours before departure), found here: https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/apply/. You will need your passport for the application and will receive your visa via email.

Note: If arriving/departing by air or land, a visa is required in advance. For day visits by sea, a group visa is provided by Viking.

For additional information regarding Turkey’s entry requirements, visit: https://www.tga.gov.tr/fight-against-covid-19-in-turkey/

Have you figured out what you are doing for the day we are in port at Civitadecci?  We are looking at a private tour to Rome for about 8 hours but the price goes way down per person if there are 4-6 instead of just two.  Interested?

We haven't even looked at Rome yet, believe it or not.  Hubs wants to wait and see if he just wants to use that day to rest up from the other stops.  Thanks for the offer, and I'll keep it in mind!   Sorry to not have a firm answer now.

Where in Kansas are you?  My dad grew up in SW Kansas during the Depression/Dust Bowl years.

I haven't found one specifically.  There are a few lumped in with those joining after you get off because it takes off on a world cruise from Barcelona apparently.  We are getting on with you, but staying until Barcelona.  Do you realize the first voyage of this ship departs Istanbul Nov 17?  We are really breaking this one in!!

We are also doing the Athens to Barcelona trip.  I can hardly wait!  I sure hope the Neptune is ready.

At the present time, she is scheduled to commence revenue service on 17th November from Istanbul.

We are booked for the Mediterranean Antiquities starting Nov. 24 in Athens, on the Neptune.  I surely hope it's ready to go!

  8. We've booked the Mediterranean Antiquities ocean cruise in November.  I've done Viking river cruises and other lines' Caribbean/Alaskan cruises, but have never been to the Mediterranean.  How rough are the waters, and will we need motion sickness remedies there?  I've used the Scopolamine patches and hubby takes Dramamine.  I've never tried the wrist bracelets.  Any words of wisdom or advice from more experienced ocean cruisers?
