  1. Hi Cheryl - Our butler on our past October Voyager cruise around Italy was wonderful. Leslie. He was charming. He was there when needed and "invisible" when not needed.

Those folks really work long hours! I saw Leslie working early in the morning and late at night. He would eagerly do anything we needed "doing" - or he knew the contacts on the ship to make things happen.

We had original reservations at P7 one night for just the 3 of us and at the last moment, we wanted expand seating for some "new friends" we had met. Leslie was our "go-to guy". He contacted P7 for us and got the table seating expanded from 3 to 5 diners.

Another night, I was rather hungry for an evening after-dinner "snack" (like I really needed one ) and asked if he could possibly round up some cheesecake with rasberry topping on it. 15 minutes later, he was knocking at our door (this was at 9PM) and brought in the cheesecake complete with raspberry topping and a few extra forks. Along with bottle of one of our favorite cabernets.

As Debi stated, the ice bucket was always full and there was always Carlsberg beer well-stocked in the frig. I jokingly asked Leslie if he wanted to come back to Arizona with us! :) We'll compare notes when we see each other. So looking forward to meeting you and David onboard.

    10 days to go - Woo Hoo!:p

:D:D Leslie is one of the best.
  2. Part of enjoying the services of a butler is understanding what a butlers' job is. Your butler is not a valet for instance. A Butler is the General Manager of your suite and directs all services you might need. Mention the canapes that you particularly enjoy and presto they appear at cocktail time. All are not created equal, they are individuals and their training varies greatly from line to line. Chat with them a bit on your first day aboard and you may be amazed at what they can and will do.

  3. The picture was taken last week in the Terrace Buffet on Riviera and that is what they call it. Whatever it is, it's delicious and worth trying. To AWED - there is a wonderful gravy that goes with it - maybe that's where they use the marrow bones.

Catherine, please do not misunderstand my comment, Braised short ribs, boneless or bone-in are one of my most favorite things! Especially if served with it's natural gravy on noodles...Mashed potatos work for me also....Rob..Just an old retired butcher.

  4. That's not a short rib (lol).

You are correct. The shown cooked piece is referred to in the business as a 3 rib corner, boneless. I much prefer the 3 rib bone in for the flavor emitted from the short rib marrow itself. Boneless is like osso bucco with the the marrow removed. Need that marrow for the gravy!!! :D

  5. Sunprince, if you are looking at value, I suggest that you take the cost of Regent without air and all else being inclusive and Seabourn as inclusive without the shore excursions. Both cruise lines list the excursions, costs, and, on Regent if there is a supplementary cost. I would also suggest, if that is an option you would consider, the cost of taking the excursions on your own or with others from your roll call.

I have sailed on Regent (all of the ships), and Seabourn (the Odyssey and the Pride). I think that it is important for you to decide the experience that you want onboard as well as the experience that you want in the ports.

forgap, I am not discounting any other passengers' experience on either line. I can tell you that we have booked cruises through Seabourn that do not include air , and paid for their private excursions. It was a much better financial deal than Regent.

Our experience onboard Seabourn was fabulous. Every request was met with a "can do" attitude.

Each cruise on each line will be different depending upon all of the variables that can happen while you are on a cruise. Decide what matters most to you.

forgap, your friends, obviously, chose Regent as a better fit. Probably, some other people on the same Seabourn cruise thought it was the best cruise ever. That does not make either position incorrect.

To the OP, opinions from all of us are merely feedback according to what we like/dislike on each cruise line. I could give you many names of people who love Regent and their experiences onboard. I could give you many names of people who love Seabourn and their experiences onboard. I could also do the same thing for Crystal, Celebrity, etc. Take a look at what matters most to you; use a fabulous cruise agent who can help you wade through advertising and reality; and, choose the cruise that best fits what you want.

    Enjoy whatever cruise you take.

C'mon now, you're just trying to be sane and sensable....well said post.:)

  6. We had them as part of the La Reserve meal. They were very good but I don't know where the 72 hours plays in. I am by no means a gourmet cook but my short ribs are just as good after braising 4 hours. I also saw them on the menu in the GDR. Go for it - they are worth it.

Thank You for the quick reply Terrier. If I understand correctly you had them in La Reserve and also saw the on the menu for the GDR ???....Rob:)

  7. Can someone who has had this item served to them give a revue as to their quality and desirability?...At which dining venue did you have them?....This intrigues me as I really enjoy braised short ribs, bone-in or boneless, I like them all! Any revues of this specific menu item will be appreciated. Thank You, Rob. :D

  8. There is no such thing as six star status. it is a made up status that Regent has given itself just as the Burj Al Arab has given itself seven stars. Pure marketing ploy!
    :) You are so right.:)

Michelin only needs 3 stars for their rating systems and I believe they are still the most trusted guide for either dining or lodging.

  9. :confused::confused:

I highly doubt that Terry Breen is in the same category as destination speakers. She is most likely a Regent contractor that is (and will be) paid.
    ...

Can you please explain the difference that you are referring to?....All I know is that she is very well versed in her subject matter and never requires either notes or any ers or ahs. Thank you for any clarification that you may make.

  10. Gemlea: Terry has not been on our two Alaska cruises because we sailed before the end of May. So, this is pretty typical of when she joins the Navigator. We had a gentleman on board for both cruises. While he is not Terry Breen, he did a good job of narrating!
...Thank you Jackie for clearing that up.
  11. If this is the case, we're sad not to have her around for our Alaska cruise on the 10th May:(. Is it likely that Regent would put someone else onboard for the first two cruises of the season, or will we be left to our own devices?
:( We are just off the Mariner, Miami-Buenos Aires with Terry B.. She told me when I asked that She would not be on the May 9th sailing from San Francisco but would be joining the Navigator at the end of May. She has just bought a house in Port Townsend, WA I believe she said and will be basing in Seattle now instead of Miami. I hope this clears the matter up a bit. We have 3 sailings with Terry and she is the best of all of the destination lecturers in our estimation. We will miss having her on our May 9 cruise from San Francisco-Alaska-Vancouver.:(
  12. We have taken two Regent cruises (one on Voyager and one on Navigator) and have booked an upcoming cruise on Voyager. We have never been sick and we have had wonderful times on both ships. We are not neatniks although we do use hand sanitizer and, of course, wash our hands thoroughly with soap and water.

We don't require PERFECTION nor do we require that we make life long friends nor do we require that staff address us by name. We like each other's company and a certain level of anonymity.

I'm not sure what's up with this forum, but the level of complaints and nitpicking is a bit much. Some are valid, for sure, but life is way too short to enter an experience primed for disappointment.

We have taken other cruise lines (Celebrity and Norwegion) and were so spoiled by Regent that we cant't look back, We are booked on an Oceania cruise later in the year because the dates and itinerary met our needs but I am already spoiled by the all inclusive. By the way, many posters here also post on the Oceania forum but, for some reason, it a lot less adversarial!

Very well said and my sentiments also. We are primarily Regent cruisers who also enjoy Oceania. :) I see you are from one of my favorite cities.

  13. AWED32: I'm not sure a wager would make sense as we both are firm in Seahawks territory. Should be a great game though, but it'll be tough to up the one yesterday.

    :-)

You are correct. I was mixed up between your post and that of patti22. Now I am wondering if sidearms will be allowed.? Just in case those wild-eyed Bronco fans get a little out of hand...While we Hawks sit quietly sipping our sarsparilla.?.:D PS> I believe that 6:30 PM EST will be 7:30 PM local.

  14. Go Hawks

We certainly hope it will be shown on the ship (cruising the coast of South America).

If not, I hope the internet bandwidth can handle it :-)....

Perhaps you and I might wager a Jefferson on the outcome?....Last year we were told that it would not be shown but they had a fast change of mind......

  15. Another angry post. Words such as unreasonable and the rest of the sentence is why, IMO, we have problems on the Regent board. There were two opinions posted ... neither of which were yours. While i may not agree with another poster, far be it from me to tell them that their post should never have been made.

Fizzy (sorry, my Kindle insists on capitalizing your name). I agree 100% about children on board which is why we don't sail during the summer. Our last cruise was an exception ... sailing at Christmas. I more or less feel that we got what we deserved. Will never sAil when kids are likely to be on board again:o

Angry..??? Perhaps you misread my post. I felt that you made a poorly thought out post or should I add IMHO.? I spent too much time below decks to let never mind. There is no reasonable way to disagree with you. That is why this board gets so arbitrary and the Oceania board does not.

  16. Really appreciate your last sentence. We are going on Oceania to the Caribbean later this year (staying in one of the top suites). We all have decisions to make in life and apparently your decision is the same as ours.

I see that you found it neccessary to mention that you would be staying in one of the "Top suites". So you will have access to the very exclusive Exectutive Lounge.? I am surprised. Good sailing!...in First Class.:D
