  1. I must say I miss the days when entering the ship, crew were all lined up in uniform and I remember being escorted to our cabin. It was a very nice touch but that was before the PCH ownership.
....I too remember those days but was that not prior to our being allowed to board at noon? Perhaps those crew members are now otherwise engaged...It was elegent to be escorted to your room with champagne flute in hand but it was usually around 2:00 PM, as I remember it...So much has changed, for better as well as worse..
  2. It may look different, but it all comes from the same place. Oink, Oink:D
:) It does not all come from the same place on a hog in my opinion based on too many years in the meat industry as a butcher, meat cutter and portioner. American style bacon is made from a Pork Belly. English style from an elongated combination cut that includes belly and part of a loin. Canadian Bacon, think eggs benedict, is only made from boneless, center cut pork loins. The ribs become baby back ribs and the rest (Chine bone and loin vertabrae) are usually trimmed out and wind up as sausage trimmings. There are other cutting styles as well but I just heard the Recess Bell.:)
  3. We used A Briggs in 2012. Excellent service.
:) We have been using Briggs for some time now (5-7 years) after doing a google search when I became disenchanted with a cruise lines reccomended service. What makes Briggs so nice for us is that they have so many strategicaly located offices including one in Seattle close by. I have used them for many different visas, passport renewals and extra passport pages. Always timely and reasonably priced. They were Regents choice for our upcoming Sout American cruise in 2014.
  4. While I NEVER wear a jacket or a tie on Oceania (one of the reasons I love them), I have to agree with you that jeans and sneakers are inappropriate for evenings in either the MDR or specialty restaurants.

I feel pretty strongly that O should enforce this rule. If one "must" wear jeans or sneakers, they can dine in the Terrace Cafe.

    ...

Or cruise on another line.:( It would appear that the posters are in agreement on this thread. I hope that Oceania execs read this and give us their thoughts.

  5. Thanks for the scotch tips. Totally unrelated but has anyone stayed at or have info on th Bauer L hotel in Venice. We'Re spending a few daysbtherebpost trip and hope I've

    Chosen well. We are newbie

    To Regent

....If memory serves me correctly we stayed at the Bauer in 2007 or 2008 and it was very nice and really close to St. Marks square and almost next door to the Doges Palace. If it is the hotel I am remebering you can not go wrong.:)
  6. Any chance someone out there has a wine list for the Navigator?

Wondering if they had Clicquot champagne available for a surcharge? Would be a nice way to use up a little obc.......have a lot.

    :)

they have many upscale champagnes available. We usually fi.nd a bottle Vieuve Cliquot on ice when we reach our suite upon boarding. Probably from our TA or someone of that nature.

  7. Be as critical as you like if your opinion is based on your own experiences. This is, after all, Cruise Critic.

But don't criticize other posters, or their opinions. To each his own.

More important, if someone else criticizes you, ignore it. Turn the other cheek, as it were.

I believe the history of my cruises is in my signature. Don't need to belabour the point that I perhaps took my last Regent cruise over a year ago.

Really good advice for all. Turning the other cheek is the best way to handle perceived personal criticism. Thanks Wendy.:D

  8. Perhaps understanding the different in a fact and opinion.

A fact: The Voyager's capacity is 700 pax

An Opinion: The Voyager is crowded in the buffet.

A Fact: All Regent Excursions Are included. (not true!)

A Fact: There are excursions you have to pay for

An opinion: The Bus is crowded

A Fact: The bus holds 51 passengers and for the excursion there were 40 on board.

    An opinion: The food is good;

An opinion The food is the best at sea

A fact: The food is prepared to order

    Great post !!!:D

  9. I'd just add that if you're upset for whatever reason and feel like flaming Regent (or any other line, for that matter) that you take a page from the old correspondence rule book and type your rant out in another application and save it. Then go take a walk, have a drink, watch some TV, get a good nights' sleep, and then re-read what you wrote the next day. If you still feel the need to post what you've written, then by all means, do it. But I'd venture a guess that most of us (myself included) would probably ease up on our criticism after some time to reflect.

I know that I took a shot at Regent just a few weeks ago, and was at the point of scoping out other travel options. Regent stepped up and made things right, and we booked the original cruise we wanted. I quite possibly would have gotten the same satisfaction working with Regent directly rather than ripping them in this public forum.

After all, as others have stated, pretty much all of the complaints here are definite first-world issues that really don't matter that much in the grand scheme of things...

....Very well said and good advice on so many fronts. Thanks, Rob.
  10. Perhaps some tips on posting might be helpful at this time ? I think it would be very helpful if posters took the time and effort to reread their posts before submitting them and try to read them through the eyes of those for whom they were meant. It might also help if repliers read fully the posts that they are replying to in order to truly understand them. An obvious tip would to always make a difference between an opinion and a fact or making sure that second hand rumor is shown as just that. Enough of my pet peeves what might others have to offer ???:confused:

  11. The Amazon is a great cruise! Much to see and do.. close up too.... MALARIA is no concern. Manaus is a major sea port of 3+ milion....THe Amazon deliver 5 times ash much fresh water to the ocean as thext 5 larget rivers in the world....it is a cruise that belongs on every cruisers "done that list

'..we have done it twice and are loking forwrd to the next time..any particular questions that I can ask I will be happy to so,, Rob Mcgregor.

  12. It is my theory, and mine alone, that the recurring sewage smell occurs when people out nonflushable items down the toilet. Even things that could be perhaps flushed at home cause a major obstruction in a marine toilet as it works under an entirely different system than a regular household toilet. And it backs up the whole system, resulting in the smell.
...I believe you could be entirely correct RachelG. With over 60 cruises on many different cruise lines we have run into the odor of sewer gas from time to time...I believe it was quickly corrected on all lines and ships. We have never run into it on Mariner(6 cruises) but have on both Voyager and Navigator....Also, I might add, on Crystal's Serenity during a 2 week North Cape cruise in 2011...Plus many others. We have never known for it to go on for more than 2 or 3 days....I do not believe it should deter you from enjoying a really great ship and in a really lush suite!....:)
  13. I think the service Crystal suggests is Luggage Concierge.
:o You are 100% correct. Holland America uses them also. We used them to ship luggage home from Africa in 2008 and had a problem so we have used Luggage Free since that time. Thank You for the correction...Rob
  14. We have used both Luggage Forward and Luggage Free. Luggage Forward only operates with Holland America and Crystal I believe. In any case we prefer Luggage free both in the US and Internationally...As to cost, they are equal in my experience when identical shipping methods and level of service are requested. There are many different levels of service available at Luggage Free. We each ship 1 folding garment bag with a weight of 42 - 50 Lbs....We each take a wheeled carry on also....At our age (80), this makes it so much easier traveling that the cost is well worth it. Our last cruise was San Francisco to New York in September and the cost for both bags was $248 each way. Over seas is another matter due mainly to customs clearance. In July we shipped our 2 large bags to Stockholm and back home from Copenhagen...It was $750 each way....Also, I always notate the FedEx tracking number in order to follow my bags progress...Glad to answer any questions posed to me....Rob.:)

  15. Discussion and the comments I have provided are not about Crystal but about the iPad. I never mentioned another cruise line and it is certainly not relevant to this discussion.

On a related note, I sail on many lines. I happen to enjoy several of them and find that diversity in what they offer and not offer is good.

Let's keep the thread focused on the subject. It's been a good thread with lots of constructive information being shared. Let's keep it that way.

....I really thought it was about IPAD on Regent...and I did not understand why the head cheerleader for

crystal was posting about IPADs on Regent Voyager. Maybe Suites will now give us her opinion too....

"lets keep focused on the threads original subject" must have been misunderstood by me.....

  16. Could it be that Regent scores so well with travel agents because the Regent fares are so high (with a host of inclusions such as excursions, air, pre-cruise hotel, etc.) and that travel agent commissions for Regent itineraries are thus higher than they might be for similar cruises on other luxury lines?

    Just wondering......

...You are incorrect as to cost comparison....no use going any further.
  17. Virtuoso, the largest consortium of travel agencys who specialize in cruising announced their choice of "Best overall luxury cruise line"....It is now REGENT not crystal.....This is the choice of the travel agents and not paid for by anyone. It is based on their reports from their own personal eaxperiences and input by their clients. REGENT ROCKS.....
