  1. Cuddle fish are so cool!! We have only seen 4 in total. Quite a thrill!

Yep... I love these guys. They swim in small schools and if you sit by them for a few minutes they loose their fear and let you just hang-out with them. So much fun to watch with the big emotional eyes and the rainbow color changes.

Our guide explained the 3 different types of squids. In the open ocean they have a squid that is a little more thin in body shape. The one in my photo is a Caribbean reef squid, they have a medium body build. And then in Europe they have the cuddle fish which has a bulky body. (and then we all know the octopus with its 8 legs, compared to the squids all with 10 legs)

  2. My wife in Cozumel 2008... at the state park. I told her to jump! She jumped

almost on top of me. I closed my eyes and snapped the camera in a wash of

a million tiny bubbles. All I could see was splash... and didn't think I got a anything,

it happened in a 100th of a second! When we got home and developed

the disposable camera, I had this nice shot....made me look like I knew what

I was doing :D Couldn't be further from the truth. Pure Luck!

  3. We did the ships snorkel tour. I liked it so much, that I posted a thread of photos, so everyone could see how well our pictures came out (not just the Princess Cay people).

Boat ride is 10 minutes, but we thought it was a very nice reef. Reef was small (25 minutes to cover it all, but then I went back over it a second time in more detail, and found some really neat fish). Water visibility was the best of our entire 10 day trip in the southern Caribbean.

I thought St John or Bonaire would make Princess Cay nothing more than a practice stop to get use to our new camera, mask, and fins... But although Bonaire was fantastic, the water was not as clear as Princess Cay, and St John was a complete wash-out (murky water that day). So you never know, but I was so happy that Princess Cay turned out to be a great day!

  4. Wow, these pics are awesome!! How do you post pics on here? I have been to St. Thomas many times would love to share my pics with you all!!

I go over to a web site called photobucket.com and upload photos from my computer to the web. Then I copy the link "IMG code" and paste it into the body of my postings here.

(but even if I shrink my photos before uploading they still look one size bigger when I post them to cruise critic??? Any one know why? Do I have a standard setting I can change?)

If anyone has a shorter process? Let me know :D

  5. Speaking of Dominica...crabs could live in the rain

forest. The little fellow surprised me! :)

    Neat photo! thanks

We didn't see the yellow crab on Dominica... just

lots of rocks, water, sunshine and jungle green;)

  6. Since we will be the first..... I will post a review of the zodiac(dinghey) rental when we get back (Nov.29) I hope it is going to be as good as I am hoping !!!!!!

Can't wait to read your review :D

If you could include travel time, taxi, rush hour traffic impressions....that would be very helpful.

Funny how people who have had inflatables.... love them. You must have had so much fun exploring the Keys in one. I live in Clearwater Florida....as kids we explored all over in our inflatable.

  7. Golfer: have not rented them yet. Our cruise isnt until Nov. 21st..... However here is the info. Cruz Bay Watersports - their website is divestjohn.com They have 2 sizes.....both hold 4 people. Smaller is $120. including fuel for 1/2 day. Other info is on the website.

They do not take advance reservations......!

Since I am going in January (high season), the weekend of the New Years holiday, and on a Saturday... I figured the only way I'd get an inflatable boat was to commit to a non-refundable payment. So I asked the nice people at Cruz Bay if I could pay in full in advance (non-refundable) and they made an exception and allowed me to book.

I really wanted to do this adventure, I had grown up with a inflatable boat when i was a kid. So even though I'm taking a bit of a financial risk (whats the odds our ship misses St Thomas???) I'll take my chances... I figure its worth it. :)

Thanks again texancruzer for coming up with this neat idea for seeing St John.

  8. My best photo?

This set was funny. As I was walking off the ship, guy trys to sell me a $4.00 underwater camera (He says it takes GREAT photos)...I buy it and think to myself "Yeah right". Keep in mind I had been shooting all week with my $500 digital camera that makes it impossible to take a bad picture (I'm all thumbs)

My wife jumped in the water off of the float at Cozumel Chankanaab park... I closed my eyes and snapped the camera knowing that I probably got nothing in my shot...all I could see was bubbles.

Not only did we get great vivid colors under the water, but the sunlight, and mirror refection of the water's surface in the 3rd photo, was fantastic for this cheap camera (sorry this is a scan of the original photos, and the copy loses some of its sharpness and color)

PS... my 40+ year old wife liked the way her body looks more toned in the water (no gravity). As a hack photographer, I have to admit that was another aspect that made these photos so much fun :D;)
