Our May cruise was canceled by American Queen in late March.  We chose the option to have our money retuned.  Originally we were told it would probably take up to 60 days to receive our credit.  After 60 days we were again told that it could now take up to 90 days.  After 90 days we have been told that it could be up to 120 days.

All of the major cruise lines settle within 90 days.  Why is it taking American Queen so long.

We were considering taking an American Queen trip next year (assuming of course that it will be permitted),  With are not so sure anymore, based on the attitude of the company's action.

They have had our money (in full) since September or October of last year.  We feel we have given American Queen a 0% interest free loan.

Yes, we also paid in full a long time ago and felt it was very unfair of them to not refund sooner.  They were aware of our situation with the falling $ but didn't give a damn.

  2. Gee I wish this was true Travelertoo2 regarding the major cruise lines refund timeline.  We have been waiting for well over 90 days for a Princess refund.  Maybe because we are in Australia is a factor.

  3. We cancelled mid March for our 17 July cruise and received our refund this week.  They did communicate reasonably well but we were not especially impressed because with the AU$ falling against the US$ we lost a lot more money than we should have.  I realise that is not their problem but it still took way too long.

  4. Our 25 May cruise was cancelled in March due to Australia canning all cruises.  We filled out the form for a full refund.  Nothing yet, no notifications except a random email last week saying that 60% of refunds have been processed.   Ha, like to see (or believe) that.  Paid in full plus used $100 each FCC for the deposit so wonder if we will get that back or if it will just get lost.

  5. We are in Australia and booked for 19 July NO to Memphis.

Final chance to cancel with only payment of the $250 pp admin fee according to our documents is 14 March.  Does anyone know what this means:

We’ve made adjustments to our deposit requirements, final payment schedules and cancellation policies to make it easier to evaluate your vacation plans.

We don't want to cancel obviously (we have paid in full) but the chances of us getting to the US, appear to be slimmer by the day.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear about all your issues boarding, I know that Celebrity was not prepared , it’s a shame it’s not the first time and probably won’t be the last. I heard people stood in line for 2 hours for immigration.

I am a solo traveler this cruise and I sit in Al Bacio alone, I am very open to sharing a table with others, not so happy about the sleepers or card players ...

I’m not defending Celebrity but we boarded the Royal Princess the following day and it was a nightmare. I heard a lady say if she had to stand in another queue she would shoot herself.  Well....... lucky she said it tongue in cheek, the queues were not finished.  Took forever.

Wow...that closet space is sad.  Norma, I think there is more closet space in the Solo balcony cabins on Anthem.  Where did you and Sharon end up putting your clothes?

We were on the same cruise, absolutely loved it but missed Captain Nikolaus.  We did not find the closet space an issue at all and I always feel we bring way too many clothes!  With no formal nights, long dresses aren’t on my packing list although I do have a couple of long skirts. I bring one suitcase only, as does my husband.

  8. It is a shame you can't have more time because each city is worth some time, but it is what it is!

Given the time (and luggage) restraints I would just go to Perth, check into your hotel and explore the city.  There is a lot to see in Fremantle, the Maritime Museum, the Round House, the Jail etc. but luggage is going to be your problem.  There is luggage storage in Fremantle but not at the train station. https://www.packsend.com.au/couriers-western-australia/couriers-fremantle  By the time you take your luggage there, see some of Fremantle then pick it up and go to Perth, you won't see anything of Perth. The fish and chips is

I think you are best to walk to the train station,  it takes 10 minutes.  Don't cross over the bridge but as you come out of the passenger terminal keep to the path and head right, you can cross over the train line to the platform just past the station (it is the end of the line).  The full fare is $4.80 pp one way, that is all you will need.  You can get a paper ticket, most locals use cards which give you a discount.

As for hotels pick one close to the station which is in Wellington Street.  I assume you arrive at Fremantle 28 February.   I think that leads into a long weekend in Perth so it may make hotel prices a bit more expensive than usual.  Mantra on Murray is 400 metres (5 minutes) from the train station, there are others in close proximity.

Once you check into your hotel (hopefully with early access) you can go to Kings Park, Elizabeth Quay, Perth Mint or whatever else takes your fancy.  There are City CAT buses which are free and all buses in the CBD are at no cost.

This website will give you information on costs for a shuttle.  https://perthcityshuttle.com.au/ Your timing is fine.

Having said all this, you would have lots to do in Fremantle for the day as well and maybe you prefer this option and stay there, but I think if you haven't been to Perth before you "should" go to Perth and Kings Park.

    Hope this helps, not confuses!

Captain Nikolaus's last cruise on the Millennium will be on Dec 22 Hong Kong to Singapore.  After his vacation, his next contract will be to the Galapagos for 2 months and then he will be on Reflection thereafter.  No more Millennium for him in the foreseable future.

Thank you so much for the update.  Do you know who will be the Captain of the Millennium for the crossing in April?

  10. Loving your blog.   What is C’est La Vie, I saw the comment re cost but didn’t see anything else.

If you see the wonderful Capt Nikolaus around the ship would you mind asking him if he will be on the crossing on 27 April.  Celebrity has some great captains but I think he is the best.  You could tell him his Australian friends were asking.

Enjoy  your last few days and have a blast in Hong Kong.  I think you will now be addicted!

Do you know when Captain Nikolaos next goes on leave.  We are hoping he will be on the crossing back to Vancouver next April but with the refit of the Millennium, I wonder what difference this makes to the rotation.

  12. I hear that Captain Alex should be the Master of the Ship. They switch off every 3 months. Dry dock may be a gating factor.

May be too early in the morning but not sure I know who Salvatore is.

Thank you so much for that info. Salvatore Hasard is one of the entertainers in the theatre. We saw him last year and thought he was absolutely amazing, and so friendly. I saw him listed in the daily program you attached.

  13. I’m excited, we are doing the repositioning (for the 3rd time) in April. We loved the first two, plus our cruise around Japan. This should be even more spectacular (if that is possible). Does anyone know if Capt Nikolaus or Capt Alex will be first on the “new” ship?
