it's apparently much more of a gamble on Virgin than other cruise lines

they chose to inconvenience the people who *didn't* gamble on a new ship being ready to sail on time, to pay off the people who *did* gamble

"haters" = people who were scheduled to be on a ship that is ready, but were kicked off to accommodate people who were scheduled for a ship that isn't ready

My first ever cruise, and it gets cancelled, so the boat I was scheduled to be on can go somewhere else and carry passengers scheduled for a different boat that isn't ready. Weird way to do business.
