While I have personally researched power strips at the request of CC posters, and having found ones that claim to be non-surge protected, while in fact being surge protected, the wording is very important to understand what you are buying.  For instance, a quick look at Amazon found one that states "the power strip can prevent your electric devices from over-current/over-charge/short circuit/over-heated."  That unit is not surge protected.  None of those terms used to describe the safety features of the electronics is in any way connected to what a surge protector does.  The best way to determine if a power strip is surge protected or not, is to look at any marketing photo that shows the back of the unit, and the specifications molded into the label there.  If there is a "VPN" rating, then the unit is surge protected, but if not, then it is not.

    Interesting, thanks!

At one point Amazon was selling a "cruise line approved" power strip or power cube/block that had a surge protector.

They still are. I was looking for one a week or so ago. The title said it had no surge protector and was "Cruise approved" but when you read down in the item description, it was clear it had surge protection. Don't remember the exact wording, but that's what it meant. Something about all devices were protected from electrical overload or something similar.

How do you post in the Hub App?? Do you mean 100 days out?

Sorry, I misread, I was thinking posting here, not in the app. I think I was confusing this site with another one I visit, too, since I see you do have a profile pic here. I remember another one (can't remember which now!) you had to wait til you had 100 posts to post a profile pic to help weed out spammers and trolls posting dirty pics and such.

  4. My concern is not the cost or ease but how much trash do all the empty jugs generate? If they were so concerned w/ straws and such, why not the jugs? I don't use a CPAP, so I'm not sure how much water is used each night, but I know my sister doesn't use a whole jug in a week. She's only one jug, but it adds up ....

  5. Re the profile pic, I think you have to have 100 posts before you can post one.

I will be in a spa balcony on that same floor not too far from your cabin in April, so I will let you know how the noise is. I believe that elevator is only for the spa cabins, so it won't be used a lot. My only concern would be from the weights in the fitness center.  Hopefully their on the other side of the room from your cabin LOL.

On my last three Carnival cruises I poured the distilled water for my CPAP into a water bottle at home, labeled it "Distilled Water for CPAP" and carried it onboard with me in my carry-on luggage.  I told the security screener I had it and in all three cases was told it was fine to bring it onboard.  This is my personal experience and YMMV so please don't start quoting Carnival rules about carrying on liquids.

Well, actually (ducking!), Carnival does say you can bring on your own distilled water for your CPAP in the Special Needs section, but it doesn't specify how it needs to be brought on. I was wondering if you could do what you said you did since the beverage policy says no water in bottles. Might have my sister try that for her CPAP for our Sept 5 day cruise. If they take it, then she can chance using the water from the buffet water dispenser or order the distilled from room service.

And re the extension cord, the Special Needs section used to say not to bring a cord but request one (that's what my sister did before), now it says to bring your own and pack it in the case with your machine.

  7. If you don;t have a TA, do you contact Special Needs to have this added to your Booking? I was jsut checking the website, and it said to just let the folks know you need it when you check in, didn't say you had to request in advance. My sister may need this depending on what happens with her knee between now and September, waiting to find out if she has a torn meniscus and if she needs surgery or whatnot.

You really should try Uber - cheaper and easier.  You just download the app to your phone.  You put in you origin and destination addresses and the app will tell you the cost and charge it directly to your credit card.

I'm a big chicken, watch too many crime shows LOL. It's me and my sister, no spring chickens. All I can think of is some crazy person or a fake driver picking us up and taking us to the woods and murdering us. Nuts, I know ...

I understand that now, but I can't reschedule our cruise.

Thanks to all for your advice.  I have booked the Riverside Hotel.

Hi neighbor! I have the Riverside booked for April 2025, so please report back on how your stay was. I've never used Uber, so I guess we will do a taxi.

  10. I am staying in Ft Lauderdale and using SAS to get to POM in April. Did the same back in 2016. Granted, we are staying 2 nights for a little sight seeing, but I'd still do that. Will probably fly home from MIA to keep from arriving home late at night since it will be a Sunday, and my sis will have to drive a couple hours from my house, which will take up an hour at least from landing to arriving at my house.

  11. I saw a quick video of a mom with her two kids on a cruise the other day getting ready for the day, and she put (pinned or hooked) some kind of circular thing under their clothes which I assumed was some kind of tracking device in case they got lost or snatched (wasn't listening to the sound). Probably ran off an app and you had to have wifi with it.

  12. How did you pay the $200 deposit? If you used a CC for that, then they would charge any extra to that card. When you click on the cancellation policy in your booking, it says if you cancel today, the charge is $300? How much is the cruise fare without the taxes and fees? If you have a non-refundable deposit, then it should be $200 fee if you cancel before the final payment date. If it's a non-refundable fare and the actual fare is more than $200, then yes, you might owe more than $200.

  13. Glad to read this! I am on the same itinerary in April 2025 over Easter. I know ours will be a full ship also, so I hope we have the same luck as you. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the ports.

Did you spend any time in the spa? We have a spa balcony cabin, so I know we will be in there quite a bit, especially on the tile loungers and hydrotherapy pool!
