  1. Thank you for all the replies After over 40 years together I've learnt not interfering with the holiday packing is the best way to a harmonious relationship, ie we'll be taking a lot of clothes. From what I've read above I think we'll get items like shirts, blouses, dresses etc in fact things that need ironing done with the Viking laundry service before we come home. I'm thinking this will make packing easier and save a lot of work on our return to the UK. Time to start think of another "daft" first timers question Have a great day everyone
  2. Hi Everyone Me again with probably another daft question. Me and the missus have booked our first ever cruise. We're going with Viking on the Panama Canal and Pacific coast trip in January. After over 40 years of marriage and many holidays together I know we'll be using every permitted ounce of of luggage allowance. Is it the done thing to get all your laundry, and by laundry I mean a service wash type as I don't think either of us want to spend time in the laundrette or at the ironing board, before we come home. We're in a DV cabin if that makes any difference. Any thoughts? Is it expensive ? Is it only available for the more expensive cabins etc ? Hope you're all having a great day wherever you are in the world.
  3. As we're not seasoned long distance holiday makers and this is our first cruise can some explain the difference between a shuttle and a transfer ? Probably another daft question I suppose.
  4. Just to clarify, I've just noticed that I put we was flying home from Fort Lauderdale when it is in fact Miami. I've had a look at a cab comparison site which indicates that Lyft will charge £64 for the Ship to Airport transfer. According to My Viking there's not any optional excursions for the last day. I think we'll see what Viking will charge for arranging the transfer when we're aboard, if we can't use their shuttle that is, and if it's not an exorbitant price we might go with that. We'd much rather have peace of mind, on our first cruise, than worry about saving a few pounds .
  5. We've only flown long haul once before which was with Virgin to LA that was when we went to California with Titan. We had economy seats. The service was great but we swore that if we ever went again we would make sure we had 2 premium economy seats, or equivalent, together guaranteed before we left the agents.
  6. No need to pre book then you'd say just walk off the ship and there should be cabs available.
  7. The main reason for booking our flights with Virgin was that we could select and book our premium economy seats whilst we were at the agents. With BA we'd have wait to a later date to see what would be available apparently .
  8. Thanks for all the advice guys, our flight is at 16.55 so assuming that we'd be checking in a few hours before I don't think we be sitting around too long waiting. I'm sure they'll be plenty going on around us to keep us entertained.
  9. Hi Everyone Sorry if seems like a daft question but we've never been on a cruise before. My wife an I are going with Viking on the Panama canal and Pacific coast trip next January. Our agent has arranged flights with Virgin rather than the British Airways that Viking use, simply because we could get premium economy seats booked there and then. Transfers are in place for our arrival in Los Angeles to our overnight hotel pre cruise. However what would be the procedure for transferring from the ship to Fort Lauderdale for the flight back to the UK ? Will we be allowed to use the same transfer as those coming back with British Airways, if the flight times are compatible, or will we or Viking arrange a separate transfer? Once again I'm sorry if this sounds a silly question but we're first timers and want to make sure everything is sorted.
  10. Done , there was one UK based seller that had some available.
  11. Thank you for all the advice, from what I see all the tablets available in the UK are prone to making you drowsy. I'm going to get some anyway, plus some ginger chews. We're staying overnight in Long Beach before embarking so hopefully they'll be a pharmacy nearby where we can get some Bonine.
  12. Thank you, I'll ask the pharmacist as we'll be home before we get a doctors appointment in the UK nowadays.
  13. Hi Everyone My wife and I have just booked our first ever cruise, we're going with Viking ( we did a lot of research to find a cruise line to sort us, we did'nt want non stop entertainment or anything too formal) to the Panama Canal and Pacific Coast. Hopefully we'll be fine but can anyone recommend which sea sickness tablets available in the UK work best ? From previous experience I found that travel sickness pills tend to make you a bit sleepy' I once missed most of a Majorcan scenic rail journey after taking one. Someone we know advised us to start taking them a week before we sail, any thoughts on that or other suggestions welcome.
