Gypsyjennifer1: Please let me add my own personal thanks to those of others. I have been fascinated by this story and would not have learned much without your thoughtful postings. I am truly sorry for your disappointments with this cruise as well as anxiety over the dangerous situation in the Middle East. You do have our appreciation for your efforts as a Star Reporter!

It seems that certain people on CC enjoy to create uncertainty and anxiety amongst (future) passengers. Please discontinue to do this as you are not fully informed about the actual/future situation and not in charge of decision-making. We trust that cruise companies are monitoring the developments in the Middle East and that they will make conscious and wise decisions.
No one is fully informed, not even the Captain. I started this feed way back to be honest and yes agree some people are just stirring too much, but SS has kept us in the dark for so long. I am on the Moon right now. yesterday we were sailing back to aqaba and this morning we woke to sailing to Athens. it's absolutely crazy. I contacted SS months ago about this sailing questioning security when other cruise companies cancelled and I was assured sailings as normal - went thru expenses to get to Jordan etc because I had no other option as SS were not giving me a refund even when I heard other passengers were. SS has not been good with communication, even on the ship, so of course there are speculations, all future and present passengers are in limbo. speculation on board with comments from officers is that Silver Moon willl reposition around the Cape. we are now anchored and waiting to go thru Suez Canal tomorrow morning. Staff has been amazing, service as always is great. Most passengers on board are trying to be positive and staff seem to be elated we have turned around. Champagne is plentiful 🙂

CruiseMapper shows Silver Moon waiting for Suez clearance and then six cruise ships hunkered down in Dubai, wondering what to do next . . . Now, you won't believe this, but I have a friend who is due to take a 'holiday' in Yemen from 22 January and at the moment his tour company says it's still on. They are entering Yemen overland through Oman.
Yes we are going to anchor now till tomorrow morning when we will transit Suez Canal n head to Athens

Gypsyjennifer1– Thank you! Travel safe!!!
Silversea is doing a great job booking passengers on flights etc. passengers are not happy about change of itinerary but staff are really being great with a lending ear for frustrated passengers and doing their best to rebook passengers on flights etc Btw did the long long Giza trip. Now need to change my Luxor excursion as 13 hours is just too much.

Hopefully Silver Seas will let know customers know in a timely manner this time. We were scheduled on Jan 16th not very much notice not the best with communication being a six star line.
That is crazy that u have not heard your 16 Jan won’t depart from muscat

Appreciate these details and follow-ups, including this actual letter from the Captain. Agree with wyocruiser as to how beneficial have been these various info items shared. Understand fully the huge frustrations for gypsyjennifer1 and the others affected. Not a good situation, nor handled very well by Silversea.
Based on our late 2018 experiences, missing Salalah, Oman, is not a major loss. BUT, we super loved our time in Muscat. Luxor could be, maybe, a super, world-class stop, especially if you can work-out the logistics and be overnight there in that fascinating and historic Egypt city on the famed Nile. Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, was rather "average" for us, but there are some snorkeling options that could be of interest for some.
Keep up the great sharing! As of now, Silversea is still showing that Jan. 16-26, Muscat to Dubai sailing as being open and available for booking.
THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio
oh yes received the excursions for the change of itinerary - great - but have to pay a lot of extra money to do these un-anticiipated excursions. or unless want to sunbake on the beach. security for Egypt has increased and Silversea cancelled Egypt of this reason, and oops now we are going to 3 ports in Egypt and we have to now pay more for our excursions
???? yes frustrated

absolutely not similar. original was One port in Egypt and then on to Saudi Arabia and Oman. Why would u think it's similar doing 3 ports in Egypt backing in the sun on some beach and then returning to Aqaba. enough, be sensitive with your comments as its frustrating enough being on this cruise and sharing
I am have been trying to give you helpful information ahead of what Silversea is advising you.

Wow. I now am very glad we cancelled. What a mess for all on all levels. They probably will sail empty to Dubai as they must have a full ship from there headed to Mumbai ?
you made the right decision

Sorry to have to inform but we just heard via a letter than we are headed north back to Aqaba n muscat to Dubai has been cancelled

Good Morning Everyone
My TA has called Silversea & then I personally contacted Silversea.
I explained my concerns & the origin of those concerns - however SS confirmed to both me & my TA that ‘to their knowledge’ - the cruise & itinerary was going ahead as planned - they had no information to suggest that it wasn’t.
Should that situation change - SS would communicate the update to my TA.
I suggested to SS that someone view the relevant posts / link on CC & then provide an appropriate response.I am extremely grateful to those onboard for all the information that has been posted thus far & would be very appreciative of any further updates that become available.
I will of course also update this thread with any additional information I might receive.
Thank you 😊
Captain said we will know more tomorrow in Jeddah. Will keep u all posted. Nothing has changed yet

This was a one on one with captain n 3 of us heard the same.

After captains talk this evening and he advised we will know more about our cruise once we get to Jeddah. I asked him about the below link scheduling Silver Moon to be in Aqaba on 16th n 26 th January n he said he knows this n that cruise line needs to be in anticipation. I asked what did he think about our prospects of going further south n he said he thought we would be going north rather than south n that SS will make it a great cruise ??????

SALT Bar at 6pm or other suggestion welcome as I dont know the ship at all.

No I am staying close to port, but not sure exact time I will get in from Petra as tomorrow will start a 3 day road trip with private driver. That would have been fun to meet for drinks. how about 6th on the ship and any other cruise critic members going to join the cruise. we can put a face to the messages would be fun

Just arrived in Aqaba for boarding Silver Moon on 6th. Aqaba is a very relaxed safe town. Not much to see here and not that attractive. Easy to walk around by myself as a woman and very friendly people and great fresh fruit juices. I will now do a 3 day private road trip to Wadi Rum and Petra. Look forward to seeing members of CC onboard the Silver Moon on 6th

Hi gypsyjennifer1 we are in the same cruise. How are you going to travel from Amman to Aqaba?
I changed my initial flight to Amman and doing a 6 day road tour. Now I am flying directly into Aqaba and only doing a 3 day trip to Petra.

we are only a couple of people communicating on this cruise critic. I wonder how all the rest who dont know about cruise critic are thinking. And how many people will end up cancelling and being on our cruise.

again I post, do any of you cruise companions want to get together for a meet up on day one let me know and we can schedule it. lets go ahead with enjoying this cruise and positivity .

some got OBC to stick with cruise, and others could put the money towards a future cruise like you. others like me received nothing, so it was go or loose everything. so unfair how Silversea handles reservations in different regions and cabins. we are arriving in Athens tomorrow. I am going to sign off with this feed. wishing you all well for future cruises.
