With regard to steaks: I've been told that unless you've left from a US port, you're never going to be served a American steak. They're going to be a different cut, different portions and different degrees of tenderness. I suppose the last one has something to do with different feeding. It's best to skip them and order more local dishes. Think steak at a fish house or fish at a steakhouse.
