In the lido it is one barista and he makes the espresso just like in explorers cafe - no self serve machine - I am convinced that the cappuccino in the MDR or if ordered via room service is from a Nespresso press the button machine - not worth the $$ plus from room servuce it arrives warm not hot!   Of note in lido the coffee menu is limited - no iced latte just the hot drinks!

Here is offering this morning in Explores Cafe/ Crows Next.

There might be some fleet differences then. I'm sure on Koningsdam the bar "stations" had automatic bean to cup machines.

Of special note for this ship is the addition of an espresso machine in the Lido Market.  Service was quick and continuous during my time of observation.  Prices were consistent at all locations board.  A tablet terminal was in use to process transactions.  This makes three sources for cappuccino now (Lido, Pinnacle Bar, and Crows Nest).  I predict a Lido Market revenue-generating espresso machine will be on all HAL ships very soon,

Although if one is a coffee snob, the bars/cafes that have barista made coffee should be preferable. The lido machines are automatic bean to cup machines.

Just read a very negative review on CC by someone who is currently on QA. I have mixed feelings about boarding in July but will try to go with an open mind and embrace the difference.  I hope some others from the maiden and current voyage will post reviews/impressions.

The thing is you could ask 20 different people and get 20 different reviews. I had my first "cruise" on QM2 at the weekend, and on QV in January. I much preferred the feel of QV, however slaughtered I might get for saying that.

  4. Given the bathrooms are identical to those on the HA Pinnacle ships, they need to keep on top of the grouting on the plastic tiles. It looked awful on Koningsdam.

  5. Maybe I'm being unduly critical but I thought the seminars in the World Stage on Koningsdam were a bit weird. They were given by the cruise director who wad reading off an autocue. Kinda wondered what the point was..

  6. I'd take the Canadian inside passage over most of those tourist trap ports in Alaska.

I honestly was not impressed with the inside passage. I prefer coming back on the outside. I know it feels upsetting but I do feel this is fair compensation. I missed my absolute favorite port last time, Sitka, and came the inside passage home. I was so upset and disappointed. I LOVE sitka and the inside passage was really disappointing. No compensation for us but I also didn’t expect it.

There are many cruise lines who wouldn’t have provided any compensation for something like this.

im sorry again that you were disappointed. ❤️

I'd take the Canadian inside passage over most of those tourist trap ports in Alaska.

The CIP was absolutely glorious on Friday on Koningsdam.

  7. If anyone sees any pictures or videos of a regular balcony cabin (not club), please do share the link!

Edit: I see a photo from Richard on the previous page.

888-628-8107  Pacific  Best to call closer to your cruise.  I called one month out.

Thanks for this. I rang them and they offered me an upgrade to an ocean view cabin (from inside) for £58 ($72USD) for my 7 day Alaska cruise this weekend. The other option was a family ocean view for £78/$98USD.

They will be returned home on the next available flight at the guest’s  expense. It’s your personal responsibility to ensure you have valid travel documents. If not you can expect a hefty bill. Every now and then people are denied boarding for having invalid documents.

As the person below has said, if the operator has been negligent in their duties they can bare the cost of repatriation, and or fined.

I have bid for Q2 and Q1 but I checked online and it said Queen Grill are sold out so not sure how bidding works?

I guess they overbook cheaper cabins. They are hoping to monetise the upgrades before having to upgrade people for free.

Also take coffee mate.   Cream cools it down

Not wishing to jeopardise the transatlantic special relationship but Coffee Mate is work of the devil. The worst bit about hotel rooms in North America.
