I was raised in BA, and when I go visit family and friends, I stay at Cyan Hotel Recoleta………
location, location, location
right in front of the Cemetary, upscale mall on the corner, restaurants, shopping, supermarket within 3 blocks,
and most important…..transportation options…..taxi, local buses, private cars arranged thru Front desk……
nice rooms with small kitchen…….its a converted apartment building (pretty typical for BA)…..great staff, good breakfast, and great rate…….
Ayres de BS AS is another good option 2 blocks away……….
safe neighborhood away from downtown center, 15/20 minutes from Palermo……30 minutes to AEP Airport, 15/20 minutes to 9 de Julio…..
Argentine peso………only change what you need…….any leftover will be a souvenir………I change as I go along, and I change mainly for using taxis or leaving tips at restaurant…….(can’t do it on most bills paid by credit card)….
for those using C Cards…….the exchange rate you get is the Tourist rate, not the “blue”, much less……..
Uber……try NOT to use them because of Insurance liability, PLUS Argentine taxis are some of the best in the World…….plenty at all hours, cheap, and fast….
tip: Uber or taxi, have an idea how he’s going to get you there before you go.
another problem using Uber, is the Credit card issue………you have a foreign card, they have to wait 30 days to receive payment, AND the currency fluctuates…….remember the merchant gets paid in local currency…..so when the dollar rises, they get less Pesos………
same problem when shopping or restaurant…..one price for cash, one price for card……..
BA, great city, lots to do, but like all big cities, be aware of your surroundings
Craig, I’m guessing you left Santiago, bright and early before 8am our ship leaves at 6pm, so I’m guessing last check in is 330 pm………which would make one way tour no more than 7 hours…… did ChileTours guarantee your arrival……
